Many cities have pledged to achieve carbon *** urban water industry can also contribute its share to a carbon-neutral *** a multi-city time-series analysis approach,this study aims to assess the progress and lessons learned from the greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions management of urban water systems in four global cities:Amsterdam,Melbourne,New York City,and *** cities are advanced in setting GHG emissions reduction targets and reporting GHG emissions in their water *** four cities have reduced the GHG emissions in their water industries,compared with those from more than a decade ago(i.e.,the latest three-year moving averages are 13%–32%lower),although the emissions have“rebounded”multiple times over the *** emissions reductions were mainly due to various engineering opportunities such as solar and mini-hydro power generation,biogas valorization,sludge digestion and incineration optimization,and aeration system *** cities have recognized the many challenges in reaching carbon-neutrality goals,which include fluctuating water demand and rainfall,more carbon-intensive flood-prevention and water-supply strategies,meeting new air and water quality standards,and revising GHG emissions accounting *** study has also shown that it is difficult for the water industry to achieve carbon neutrality on its own.A collaborative approach with other sectors is needed when aiming toward the city’s carbon-neutrality *** an approach involves expanding the usual system boundary of the water industry to externally tap into both engineering and non-engineering opportunities.

This paper is focused on calibration of an intelligent network simulation model （INs1M） with reallife transportation network to analyse the INsIM＇s feasibility in simulating commuters＇ travel choice behaviour under the influence of real-time integrated multimodal traveller information （IMTI）. A transportation network model for the central and western areas of singapore was simulated in PARAMICs and integrated with INsIM expert system by means of an application programming interface to form the INsIM. Upon calibration, INsIM was able to realistically present complicated scenarios in which real-time IMTI was provided to commuters and the network performance measures being recorded.

Biliary brush cytology:Factors associated with positive yields on biliary brush cytology

AIM: To evaluate the yield of brushing biliary strictures and the factors associated with a positive result in biliary strictures. METHODs: Data on all consecutive patients (01/02 -10/05) who were identified to have a biliary stricture and who underwent biliary brush cytology were collected. The yield of positive biliary brush cytology was evaluated and compared to results with the gold standard for diagnosis (defi ned as either defi nitive surgical histology or clinical course). Additionally,associated factors of positive results including stricture location,gender,age,mass size,length of stricture,and dilatation prior to brushing cytology were assessed. REsULTs: From 199 patients who had brushing cytology samples (10 patients were excluded due to lack of gold standard diagnosis),77 patients had positive brushing cytology (yield 41%). Variables associated with positive cytology brushing on initial endoscopic retrograde cholangiography were age 1.02 (1.00-1.05),mass size > 1 cm 2.22 (1.01-4.89) and length of stricture > 1 cm 3.49 (1.18-10.2). The sensitivity of biliary brushing was 61%,its specifi city 98%,the positive predictive value reached 99%,and the negative predictive value was 57%. CONCLUsION: Our results revealed a 41% positive yield from brushing cytology. The sensitivity of biliary brushing cytology in our center was 61% and the specif icity was 98%. Predictors of positive yield include older age,mass size > 1 cm,and stricture length of > 1 cm.

The one-bead-one-compound （OBOC） combinatorial peptide library is a powerful tool to identify ligand and receptor interactions. Here, we applied the OBOC library technology to identify mimotopes specific to the immunoglobulin E （IgE） epitopes of the major shellfish allergen tropomyosin. OBOC peptide libraries with 8-12 amino acid residues were screened with serum samples from patients with shellfish allergy for IgE mimotopes of tropomyosin. Twenty-five mimotopes were identified from the screening and their binding reactivity to tropomyosin-specific IgE was confirmed by peptide ELIsA. These mimotopes could be divided into seven clusters based on sequence homology, and epitope mapping by Episearch of the clustered mimotopes was performed to characterize and confirm the validity of mimotopes. Five out of six of the predicted epitopes were found to overlap with previously identified epitopes of tropomyosin. To further confirm the mimicry potential of mimotopes, BALB/c mice were immunized with mimotopes conjugated to keyhole limpet hemocyanin and assayed for their capacity to induce tropomyosin-specific antibodies. BALB/c mice that received mimotope immunization were found to have an elevated level of tropomyosin-specific immunoglobulin G, but not mice that received an irrelevant mimotope. This study pioneers the successful application of the OBOC libraries using whole sera to screen and identify multiple shrimp allergen mimotopes and validates their mimicry potential using in vitro, in vivo, and in silico methods.

Background sotos syndrome is an overgrowth syndrome with characteristic facial gestalt and mental retardation of variable severity. Haploinsufficiency of the NsD 1 gene has been implicated as the major cause of sotos syndrome, with a predominance of microdeletions reported in Japanese patients. This study was conducted to investigate into the spectrum of NsD1 gene mutations in southern Chinese patients with sotos syndrome. Methods Thirty-six Chinese patients with sotos syndrome and two patients with Weaver syndrome were subject to molecular testing. Results NsD1 gene mutations were detected in 26 （72%） sotos patients. Microdeletion was found in only 3 patients, while the other 23 had point mutations （6 frameshift, 8 nonsense, 2 spice site, and 7 missense）. Of these, 19 mutations were never reported. NsD1 gene mutations were not found in the two patients with Weaver syndrome. Conclusions Most cases of sotos syndrome are caused by NsD1 gene defects, but the spectrum of mutations is different from that of Japanese patients. Genotype-phenotype correlation showed that patients with microdeletions might be more prone to congenital heart disease but less likely to have somatic overgrowth. The two patients with Weaver syndrome were not found to have NsD1 gene mutations, but the number was too small for any conclusion to be drawn.

Measuring County Resilience After the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake

The catastrophic earthquake that struck sichuan Province,China,in 2008 caused serious damage to Wenchuan County and surrounding areas in southwestern *** recent years,great attention has been paid to the resilience of the affected *** study applied the resilience inference measurement(RIM) model to quantify and validate the community resilience of 105 counties in the impacted *** RIM model uses cluster analysis to classify counties into four resilience levels according to the exposure,damage,and recovery *** model then applies discriminant analysis to quantify the influence of socioeconomic characteristics on the county's *** results show that counties located at the epicenter had the lowest resilience,but counties immediately adjacent to the epicenter had the highest resilience *** that were farther away from the epicenter returned to normal resiliency *** variables—including sex ratio,per capita GDP,percent of ethnic minority,and medical facilities—were identified as the most influential characteristics influencing *** study provides useful information to improve county resilience to earthquakes and support decision making for sustainable development.
