Liquid suspensions of single and binary component solid particles-An overview

In this paper theoretical approaches and experimental findings relative to the hydrodynamics of liquid suspensions of solid particles by liquids are reported and discussed. For the single particle specie systems, advantages and possible faults of well known empirical correlations are discussed. For binary-solid mixture suspensions, experimental evidence are reviewed and approaches capable of successfully describing observed behaviour are reported.

Kinetics study of CO_(2) absorption in potassium carbonate solution promoted by diethylenetriamine

In this work,characterization and kinetics of CO2 absorption in potassium carbonate(K_(2)CO_(3))solution promoted by diethylenetriamine(DETA)were *** measurements were performed using a stirred cell reactor in the temperature range of 303.15–323.15 K and total concentration up to 2.5 kmol m*** density,viscosity,physical solubility,CO_(2) diffusivity and absorption rate of CO_(2) in the solution were *** reaction kinetics between CO_(2) and K2CO3þDETA solution were ***-first order kinetic constants were also predicted by zwitterion *** was revealed that the addition of small amounts of DETA to K_(2)CO_(3) results in a significant enhancement in CO_(2) absorption *** reaction order and activation energy were found to be 1.6 and 35.6 kJ mol1,*** terms of reaction rate constant,DETA showed a better performance compared to the other promoters such as MEA,EAE,proline,arginine,taurine,histidine and alanine.

Validation of fluid-particle interaction force relationships in binary-solid suspensions

In this work several relationships governing solid-fluid dynamic interaction forces were validated against experimental data for a single particle settling in a suspension of other smaller particles. It was observed that force relationships based on Lattice-Boltzmann simulations did not perform as well as other inter- action types tested. Nonetheless, it is apparent that, in the case of a suspension of different particle types, it is important that the correct choice is made as to how the contribution to the overall fluid-particle interaction force is split between buoyancy and drag. Experimental evidence clearly suggests that the ＂generalized＂ Archimedes＇ principle （where the foreign particle is considered to displace the whole suspension and not just the fluid） provides the best result.
