Monitoring of Fluoride Concentration in Groundwater of Tosham Block, Bhiwani District, NW, India: Correlation with Physico-Chemical Parameters

Hydrogeochemical investigations were carried out in the eight villages of Tosham Block;district Bhiwani, Haryana to recognize the mechanism and sources of enrichment of fluoride in the groundwater. The results specify that concentrations of fluoride attain up to 1.9 mg/l in groundwater samples. In the soils, the overall fluorine contents vary between 1.1 and 2.7 mg/kg, which could have sufficient potential to released fluorine into the groundwater. In groundwater, the fluoride enrichment is primarily controlled by solubility of fluorite, intensity of evapotranspiration, residence time and the processes of weathering prevailing in Tosham area. Moreover, various other water quality parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity, total hardness, and total alkalinity as well as calcium, magnesium, carbonate, bicarbonate and chloride concentrations were also calculated. A logical calculation of correlation coefficients between different physico-chemical parameters was done. The 67% of groundwater samples do not comply with WHO standards of fluoride for drinking purposes. The excessive fluoride concentration in the groundwater of villages under study causes dental fluorosis among people especially the children. Except few of villages, without any prior treatment, the overall quality of water was found unacceptable for drinking purposes.

Degradable waste generated from food processing industries has immense potential for producing valuable *** constitute among the most widely consumed fruits in the food processing industry,but their peels remain *** explored the possibility of using apple peel as feedstock for production of alpha-amylase-a commercially important enzyme with role in food industry and bio-ethanol production that is critical to support nutrition and energy *** utilization of locally sourced apple peel as feedstock,optimization of the conditions for the production of alpha-amylase through solid-state fermentation and comparison with potato peel-another widely available feedstock option is *** Bacillus subtilis BS1934 strain was identified as a promising strain that could produce alpha-amylase efficiently at *** obtained values i.e.,17468 and 5229 U/L of alpha-amylase from apple and potato peel,respectively through solid state fermentation in eight days were considered as *** enzyme titres were 3-fold higher with apple peel as compared to potato peel in the medium,indicating superior quality of apple peel feedstock as compared to potato for amylase *** production of amylase using agro-industrial residues,as apple peel may emerge as a cost-effective alternative to amylase from microbial sources for industrial purpose.

Identification, Characterization and Evaluation of Crystal Forms of Quinine Sulphate

Crystal engineering concept has been utilized to modify the physico-chemical parameters of a naturally occurring alkaloid, quinine sulphate, by exploring its H-bond interactions to generate different forms. Quinine sulphate is found to exist in four different crystal forms. The Forms I and II depict endo/exo events suggesting conversion of metastable low melting forms to higher melting and stable form indicated by sharp melting endotherms. The low melting form IL is found to be monotropically related to high melting Form IH while low melting Form IIL is enantiotropically related to high melting Form IIH. The Form III and IV showed broad endotherms accompanied by mass loss in TGA prior to melting indicating the existence of solvatomorphism. The solvent molecules are tightly bound in the crystal lattice of the drug molecules which is shown by high values of the binding energies of the solvents in these two forms. The enthalpy of solution was found to be endothermic for all the forms which followed the order: Form O > Form II > Form III > Form I > Form IV and is further related to the lattice energy suggesting Form II to be least crystalline. The solubility for Form II was found to be highest with maximum release rate in dissolution studies. The effectiveness of new polymorphic forms was confirmed by performing in vivo antimalarial activity against P. berghei infection. The studies have shown an increase in antimalarial activity of Form IV concluding a successful development of new polymorphic form.

Test Cost Optimization Using Tabu Search

In order to deliver a complete reliable software product, testing is performed. As testing phase carries on, cost of testing process increases and it directly affects the overall project cost. Many a times it happens that the actual cost becomes more than the estimated cost. Cost is considered as the most important parameter with respect to software testing, in software industry. In recent year’s researchers have done a variety of work in the area of Cost optimization by using various concepts like Genetic Algorithm, simulated annealing and Automation in generation of test data etc. This paper proposes an efficient cost effective approach for optimizing the cost of testing using Tabu Search (TS), which will provide maximum code coverage along with the concepts of Dijkstra’s Algorithm which will be implemented in Aspiration criteria of Tabu Search in order to optimize the cost and generate a minimum cost path with maximum coverage.

Modified Multiple Scale/Segment Entropy （MMPE） Analysis of Heart Rate Variability of NHH, CHF ＆ AF Subjects

Nonlinear analysis of heart rate variability （HRV） has become important as heart behaves as a complex system. In this work, the approximate entropy （ApEn） has been used as a nonlinear measure. A new concept of estimating the ApEn in different segments of long length of the recorded data called modified multiple scale （segment） entropy （MMPE） is introduced. The idea of estimating the approximate entropy in different segments is useful to detect the nonlinear dynamics of the heart present in the entire length of data. The present work has been carried out for three cases namely the normal healthy heart （NHH） data, congestive heart failure （CHF） data and Atrial fibrillation （AF） data and the data are analyzed using MMPE techniques. It is observed that the mean value of ApEn for NHH data is much higher than the mean values for CHF data and AF data. The ApEn profiles of CHF, AF and NHH data for different segments obtained using MPE profiles measures the heart dynamism for the three different cases. Also the power spectral density is obtained using fast fourier transform （FFT） analysis and the ratio of LF/HF （low frequency/high frequency） power are computed on multiple scales/segments namely MPLH （multiple scale low frequency to high frequency） for the NHH data, CHF data and AF data and analyzed using MPLH techniques. The results are presented and discussed in the paper.

Isolation of Dental Caries Bacteria from Dental Plaque and Effect of Tooth Pastes on Acidogenic Bacteria

Destruction of calcified tissue was caused by acids which are by product of carbohydrate metabolism of acidogenic bacteria consequent to dental caries. The purpose of this study was to assess the existence of acidogens potentially causing the dental caries and comparatively evaluation of efficacy of different toothpastes. The dental plaques of fifty persons belong to three age groups (1 - 20, 21 - 40, 41 - 60 year and above) were examined to identify microorganisms by the culture method. Thirty nine bacteria were isolated by spread plate method on BSMY I minimal media. Thirteen out of thirty nine, acidogens colonized in the dental plaques. Seven potentially acidogens CD17, CD26, CD27, CD28, CD29, CD34 and CD35 were treated with five different toothpastes. Inhibition effect of Triclosan and Fluoride containing tooth pastes were found more efficient. The results of the present study revealed that bacteria that commonly cause dental caries colonized in dental plaques of children and alcoholic person. Therefore, dental plaques must be considered a specific reservoir of colonization and subsequent dental caries. To reduce the dental problem triclosan and fluoride containing product should be recommended.
