Multicellular spheroids have served as a promising preclinical model for drug efficacy testing and disease *** microfluidic tech no logies,in eluding those based on water-oil-water double emulsions,have been introduced for the production of ***,sustained culture and the in situ characterization of the gen erated spheroids are currently unavailable for the double emulsion-based spheroid *** study presents a streamlined workflow,termed the double emulsion-pretreated microwell culture(DEPMiC),incorporating the features of(1)effective initiation of uniform-sized multicellular spheroids by the pretreatment of double emulsions produced by microfluidics without the requirement of biomaterial scaffolds;(2)sustained maintenance and culture of the produced spheroids with facile removal of the oil confinement;and(3)in situ characterization of individual spheroids localized in microwells by a built-in analytical *** by microscopic observations and Raman spectroscopy,the DEPMiC cultivated spheroids accumulated elevated lipid ordering on the apical membran巳similar to that observed in their Matrigel *** possible by the proposed tech no logical advancement,this study subsequently examined the drug responses of these in vitro-generated multicellular *** developed DEPMiC platform is expected to gen erate health benefits in personalized cancer treatment by offering a pre-animal tool to dissect heterogeneity from individual tumor spheroids.

The SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variants are notorious for their transmissibility,but little is known about their subgenomic RNA(sgRNA)*** study applied RNA-seq to delineate the quantitative and qualitative profiles of canonical sgRNA of 118 respiratory samples collected from patients infected with Omicron BA.2 and compared with 338 patients infected with non-variant of concern(non-VOC)-D614G.A unique characteristic profile depicted by the relative abundance of 9 canonical sgRNAs was reproduced by both BA.2 and non-VOCD614G regardless of host gender,age and presence of ***,such profile was lost in samples with low viral load,suggesting a potential application of sgRNA pattern to indicate viral activity of individual patient at a specific time point.A characteristic qualitative profile of canonical sgRNAs was also reproduced by both BA.2 and *** presence of a full set of canonical sgRNAs carried a coherent correlation with crude viral load(AUC¼0.91,95%CI 0.88–0.94),and sgRNA ORF7b was identified to be the best surrogate marker allowing feasible routine application in characterizing the infection status of individual *** potentials in using sgRNA as a target for vaccine and antiviral development are worth pursuing.

Establishment of chronic hepatitis C virus infection:Translational evasion of oxidative defence

Hepatitis C virus(HCV)causes a clinically important disease affecting 3%of the world *** is a single-stranded,positive-sense RNA virus belonging to the genus Hepacivirus within the Flaviviridae *** virus establishes a chronic infection in the face of an active host oxidative defence,thus adaptation to oxidative stress is key to virus *** a small RNA virus with a limited genomic capacity,we speculate that HCV deploys a different strategy to evade host oxidative *** of counteracting oxidative stress,it utilizes oxidative stress to facilitate its own *** is the first step in the replication of a plus strand RNA virus so it would make sense if the virus can exploit the host oxidative defence in facilitating this very first *** is particularly true when HCV utilizes an internal ribosome entry site element in translation,which is distinctive from that of cap-dependent translation of the vast majority of cellular genes,thus allowing selective translation of genes under conditions when global protein synthesis is ***,we were the first to show that HCV translation was stimulated by an important prooxidant-hydrogen peroxide in hepatocytes,suggesting that HCV is able to adapt to and utilize the host antiviral response to facilitate its own translation thus allowing the virus to thrive under oxidative stress condition to establish *** how HCV translation is regulated under oxidative stress condition will advance our knowledge on how HCV establishes *** chronicity is the initiator step in disease progression this will eventually lead to a better understanding of pathogenicity,which is particularly relevant to the development of anti-virals and improved treatments of HCV patients using anti-oxidants.

Mn3O4/carbon nanotube nanocomposites recycled from waste alkaline Zn–MnO2 batteries as high-performance energy materials

Alkaline zinc manganese dioxide（Zn–MnO2）batteries are widely used in everyday life. Recycling of waste alkaline Zn–MnO2 batteries has always been a hot environmental concern. In this study, a simple and costeffective process for synthesizing Mn3O4/carbon nanotube（CNT） nanocomposites from recycled alkaline Zn–MnO2 batteries is presented. Manganese oxide was recovered from spent Zn–MnO2 battery cathodes. The Mn3O4/CNT nanocomposites were produced by ball milling the recovered manganese oxide in a commercial multi-wall carbon nanotubes（MWCNTs） solution. Scanning electron microscopy（SEM） analysis demonstrates that the nanocomposite has a unique three-dimensional（3D） bird nest structure. Mn3O4 nanoparticles are homogeneously distributed on MWCNT framework. Mn3O4/CNT nanocomposites were evaluated as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries, exhibiting a highly reversible specific capacitance of -580 mA h·g^-1 after 100 cycles. Moreover, Mn3O4/CNT nanocomposite also shows a fairly positive onset potential of -0.15 V and quite high oxygen reducibility when considered as an electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reaction.

Hydrogen production by water reduction reactions has received considerable attention because hydrogen is considered a clean-energy carrier,key for a sustainable energy *** methods have been widely used to study the reaction mechanism of the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER),but the calculation results need to be supported by experimental results and direct evidence to confirm the mechanistic *** this review,we discuss the fundamental principles of the in situ spectroscopic strategy and a theoretical model for a mechanistic understanding of the *** addition,we investigate recent studies by in situ Fourier transform infrared(FTIR),Raman spectroscopy,and X-ray absorption spectroscopy(XAS) and cover new findings that occur at the catalyst-electrolyte interface during *** spectroscopic strategies provide practical ways to elucidate catalyst phase,reaction intermediate,catalyst-electrolyte interface,intermediate binding energy,metal valency state,and coordination environment during HER.

ELASTICITY EFFECTS ON THE WATER IMPACT OF AN ELASTIC FLAT-BOTTOM BOX

To elucidate the effects of elasticity the hydrodynamic impact of a 2-D flat-bottom shell box onto a water surface was investigated in detail using the finite element code Dytran. An ALE coupling algorithm was employed to handle the interactions between the box and the fluids. In this study, both air and water were treated as compressible fluids and their properties were modeled through the equation of states. Calculated results show that the air cushion plays a very important role buffering the impinging. Under the deformed concave bottom an air cushion layer will be easier to form up. For high impact speed, the pressure for the elastic box is much lower than that for the rigid box. Excited by the impact, the impinging box oscillates with about its natural frequency.

High-power and long-life supercapacitive performance of hierarchical, 3-D urchin-like W18049 nanostructure electrodes

We report the facile, one-pot synthesis of 3-D urchin-like W18O49 nanostructures （U-WO） via a simple solvothermal approach. An excellent supercapacitive performance was achieved by the U-WO because of its large Brunauer-Emmett- Teller （BET） specific surface area （ca. 123 m2.g-1） and unique morphological and structural features. The U-WO electrodes not only exhibit a high rate-capability with a specific capacitance （Csp） of -235 F·g-1 at a current density of 20 A.g-1, but also superior long-life performance for 1,000 cycles, and even up to 7,000 cycles, showing -176 F·g-1 at a high current density of 40 A.g-1.

An Interactive Intuitionistic Fuzzy Method for Multilevel Linear Programming Problems

In this paper, we propose an interactive method for solving the multilevel linear programming problems based on the intuitionistic fuzzy set theory. Firstly, the membership function and the non-membership function are introduced to describe the uncertainty of the decision makers. Secondly, a satisfactory solution is derived by updating the minimum satisfactory degrees with considerations of the overall satisfactory balance among all levels. In addition, the steps of the proposed method are given in this paper. Finally, numerical examples illustrate the feasibility of this method.

Pulse oximeter as a home assessment tool:Knowledge and user experience among the community in Malaysia during the COVID-19 pandemic

Objective:To determine the degree of knowledge in the usage of pulse oximeter as a home assessment tool among the community in ***:A cross-sectional survey was conducted in November *** questionnaire assessed the knowledge in using pulse oximeters,user experience and opinions in using pulse oximeter as a home assessment tool during the ***:A total of 504 respondents were included in the study,and the mean score in knowledge related to application of pulse oximetry was 73.00%,while the mean score in knowledge related to factors affecting pulse oximetry readings was only 38.51%.A total of 90.5% of the respondents recognised normal pulse rate and 88.5% knew the blood oxygen saturation levels of a healthy adult,while 69.4% recognised the definition of silent *** addition,the majority of the respondents agreed that factors such as poor blood circulation(71.2%),excessive movements(69.8%),and hand position(60.7%)affected oximetry ***,61.7%,81.7%,77.2% and 76.8% of the respondents could not identify nail polish,skin colour,skin thickness and tattoos as factors that may affect oximetry readings ***:The respondents showed a satisfactory level of knowledge related to application of pulse oximetry,but a poor level of knowledge related to factors affecting pulse oximetry readings among the community in *** efforts in educating the community on the correct use of pulse oximeters are crucial for appropriate home assessment and avoiding unnecessary stress.
