Thyroid disease is a medical condition caused due to the excess release of thyroid *** is released by the thyroid gland which is in front of the neck just below the *** pictures such as X-rays and CT scans can,however,be used to diagnose *** this proposed model,Deep Learning technology is used to detect thyroid diseases.A Convolution Neural Network(CNN)based modified ResNet architecture is employed to detectfive different types of thyroid diseases namely *** *** *** cancer *** *** *** the proposed work,the training method is enhanced using dual optimizers for better accuracy and ***,a Python library that is high level runs as the main part of the Tensor Flow *** is used in the proposed work to implement deep learning *** comparative analysis of the proposed model and the existing work helps to show that there is a great improvement in the performance metrics in classifying the type of thyroid *** applying Adam and SGD(Stochastic Gradient Descent)optimizers in the training phase of the proposed model it was identified that these increase the operational efficiency of the modified ResNet *** retraining the model with SGD,the modified ResNet provides more accuracy of about 97%whereas the basic ResNet architecture attains 94%accuracy.A web-based frame-work is also developed which yields the type of thyroid disease as the output for a given input scanned image of the system.

Structural health monitoring (SHM) is a relevant topic for civil systems and involves the monitoring, data processing and interpretation to evaluate the condition of a structure, in order to detect damage. In real structures, two or more sites or types of damage can be present at the same time. It has been shown that one kind of damaged condition can interfere with the detection of another kind of damage, leading to an incorrect assessment about the structure condition. Identifying combined damage on structures still represents a challenge for condition monitoring, because the reliable identification of a combined damaged condition is a difficult task. Thus, this work presents a fusion of methodologies, where a single wavelet-packet and the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) method are combined with artificial neural networks (ANNs) for the automated and online identification-location of single or multiple-combined damage in a scaled model of a five-bay truss-type structure. Results showed that the proposed methodology is very efficient and reliable for identifying and locating the three kinds of damage, as well as their combinations. Therefore, this methodology could be applied to detection-location of damage in real truss-type structures, which would help to improve the characteristics and life span of real structures.

Scavengers play an important role in ecosystems. Their obvious service for public health is well known at least in developing countries:In terms of ecosystem services they remove rotten meat and bones and in doing so prevent serious diseases in people and livestock. Vulture decline and its negative effect on economy, public health and culture has well been studied in the case of India. One major effect was that rabies spread as carrion was no longer consumed by birds but by mammals. So there is good evidence on the importance of vultures as scavengers. However, vultures are mainly extinct in industrial countries like Germany or China after prosecution and lack of food. Extinction of vultures occurred at least 200 years ago. Rabies was a major risk to public health in Germany until the disease was eradicated by vaccinating foxes. Without competition by vultures and without rabies causing death among foxes, their population increased tremendously and foxes are now regarded as a threat for ground breeding birds. Whereas Germany interferes in the carrion food web again by vaccinating foxes and causing more negative effect, India sees to eradicate the reasons for vulture decline such as banning the use of Diclophenac in animal *** the NECROS project of BTU Cottbus （Germany） the fragmented remaining food web based on carcasses is studied. Road kills of game, mainly roe deer and wild boar, are deposited in a nature reserve to carry out field experiments. Carcasses are monitored by automatic cameras. One of the main research aims is to find out what happens to the carrion food web with only some vertebrate scavengers around and no vultures at all. Results show that compared to complete ecosystems with large predators and vultures, the rudimentary food web based on carrion in Germany cannot provide the desirable ecosystem services.

High pressure responsive luminescence of flexible Eu^(3+) doped PVDF fibrous mats

Exploring lanthanide doped materials and their high-pressure optical properties is important from the perspective of designing pressure sensors, piezoelectric materials, scintillators, and optoelectronic devices, just to mention a few. Understanding the high-pressure optical properties of polymeric fibrous mats provides significant advantages in terms of flexibility, tunability, facile processability, and malleability. In this work, we have developed flexible polyvinylidene difluoride(PVDF) fibrous mats doped with an Eu^(3+) source of Eu(NO_(3))_(3)·5H_(2)O(EN-PF) or Eu_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)(ES-PF) by a Forcespinning■ method. Microstructural analysis of these two systems indicates that Eu(NO_(3))_(3)·5H_(2)O and Eu_(2)(SO_(4))_(3) are homogeneously distributed and dispersed into the PVDF matrix. Fiber formation promotes a β-phase PVDF. Eu^(3+) doping increases the β-phase. Its fraction is larger for the ES-PF mats. To understand their high-pressure optical properties, their photoluminescence spectra have been taken at various pressures up to 58 GPa in a diamond anvil cell. High-pressure luminescence illustrates a clear change in asymmetry ratio, peak intensity, peak breadth, color coordinate, and color temperature of Eu^(3+) ions from both EN-PF and ES-PF with a different extent of changes. Specifically, Eu^(3+) ions in the ES-PF mats switch from asymmetric to symmetric environment as pressure increases. Those in the EN-PF mats present symmetric environment for all tested pressures. Both of the Eu^(3+) doped PVDF systems present irreversible changes. Therefore,the EN-PF fibrous mats present an opportunity to make pressure induced red-orange-yellow tunable phosphors for multifunctional applications.

AIM To characterize esophageal endoluminal landmarks to permit radial and longitudinal esophageal orientation and accurate lesion *** Distance from the incisors and radial orientation were estimated for the main left bronchus and the left atrium landmarks in 207 consecutive patients using white light examination. A sub-study was also performed using white light followed by endoscopic ultrasound(EUS) in 25 consecutive patients to confirm the *** scope orientation throughout the exam was maintained at the natural axis,where the left esophageal quadrant corresponds to the area between 6 and 9 o'clock. When an anatomical landmark was identified, it was recorded with a photograph and its quadrant orientation and distance from the incisors were determined. The reference points to obtain the distances and radial orientation were as follows: the midpoint of the left main bronchus and the most intense pulsatile zone of the left atrium. With the video processor system set to moderate insufflation, measurements were obtained at the end of the patients' air *** The left main bronchus and left atrium esophageal landmarks were identified using white light in 99% and 100% of subjects at a mean distance of 25.8 cm(SD2.3), and 31.4 cm(SD 2.4) from the incisors, respectively. The left main bronchus landmark was found to be a tubular, concave, non-pulsatile, esophageal external compression, occupying approximately 1/4 of the circumference. The left atrium landmark was identified as a round, convex, pulsatile, esophageal external compression, occupying approximately 1/4 of the circumference. Both landmarks were identified using white light on the anterior esophageal quadrant. Application of the modified vaccination technique for the prevention and cure of chronic ailments

Over the years vaccination has proven to be the most successful health protection program for large populations,to prevent them from acquiring serious infectious and contagious diseases caused by exogenous antigens(ags) such as bacteria and *** is generally achieved by an active immunization program,though passive immunization has also been employed, especially in the past,to combat diseases caused by certain bacterial infections(***, diphtheria,etc.). Most recently,encouraging research data suggests that therapeutic approaches employing vaccination techniques can also be used to correct or deal with mishaps induced by or involving endogenous ***,most attempts at employing conventional vaccination techniques to do so have proven less than *** the case of cancer,one of the reasons for this is that the presentation of cancer related ags in presently available immunization frameworks is unable to evoke a powerful,specific cancer killing ***,drug treatments have been required in order to achieve additional beneficial effects. Recently,the Barabas group has developed a new vaccination technique(the third vaccination method,after active and passive immunization) called Modified Vaccination Technique(MVT). In experiments the MVT has been able to prevent-and with equal effectiveness,terminatemishaps induced by or involving endogenous ags,*** an experimental autoimmune kidney disease called slowly progressive Heymann nephritis(SPHN). The MVT is safe,and is able to initiate a specific immune response in the injected host(provided the injected components are in pure form).The MVT promises to provide the next generation of vaccines for the prevention,treatment,and termination of chronic disorders in humans,such as autoimmune diseases,cancer,and chronic infections.

CNB-001 reduces paraplegia in rabbits following spinal cord ischemia

Spinal cord ischemia associated with trauma and surgical procedures including thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysm repair and thoracic endovascular aortic repair results in devastating clinical deficits in patients. Because spinal cord ischemia is inadequately treated, we studied the effects of [4-((1 E)-2-(5-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxystyryl-)-1-phenyl-1 H-pyrazoyl-3-yl) vinyl)-2-methoxy-phenol)](CNB-001), a novel curcumin-based compound, in a rabbit SCI model. CNB-001 is known to inhibit human 5-lipoxygenase and 15-lipoxygenase and reduce the ischemia-induced inflammatory response. Moreover, CNB-001 can reduce the level of oxidative stress markers and potentiate brain-derived neurotrophic factor and brain-derived neurotrophic factor receptor signaling. The Tarlov scale and quantal analysis technique results revealed that CNB-001 administered as an intravenous dose(bolus) 30 minutes prior to spinal cord ischemia improved the behaviors of female New Zealand White rabbits. The improvements were similar to those produced by the uncompetitive N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor antagonist memantine. At 48 hours after aortic occlusion, there was a 42.7% increase(P < 0.05) in tolerated ischemia duration(n = 14) for rabbits treated with CNB-001(n = 16), and a 72.3% increase for rabbits treated with the positive control memantine(P < 0.05)(n = 23) compared to vehicle-treated ischemic rabbits(n = 22). CNB-001 is a potential important novel treatment for spinal cord ischemia induced by aortic occlusion. All experiments were approved by the CSMC Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee(IACUC #4311) on November 1,2012.
