The cryptic lifestyle of most fungi necessitates molecular identification of the guild in environmental studies.Over the past decades,rapid development and affordability of molecular tools have tremendously improved insights of the fungal diversity in all ecosystems and habitats.Yet,in spite of the progress of molecular methods,knowledge about functional properties of the fungal taxa is vague and interpretation of environmental studies in an ecologically meaningful manner remains challenging.In order to facilitate functional assignments and ecological interpretation of environmental studies we introduce a user friendly traits and character database FungalTraits operating at genus and species hypothesis levels.Combining the information from previous efforts such as FUNGuild and FunFun together with involvement of expert knowledge,we reannotated 10,210 and 151 fungal and Stramenopila genera,respectively.This resulted in a stand-alone spreadsheet dataset covering 17 lifestyle related traits of fungal and Stramenopila genera,designed for rapid functional assignments of environmental stud-ies.In order to assign the trait states to fungal species hypotheses,the scientific community of experts manually categorised and assigned available trait information to 697,413 fungal ITS sequences.On the basis of those sequences we were able to summarise trait and host information into 92,623 fungal species hypotheses at 1%dissimilarity threshold.

High-Impedance Bus Differential Protection Modeling in ATP/MODElS

This paper presents a modeling of a high-impedance bus differential protection logic using the ATP (Alternative Transients Program) MODElS language. The model is validated using ATP simulations on an electrical system consisting of a sectionalized bus arrangement with four transmission lines (Tls) and two autotransformers. The obtained results validate the model and present some of the advantages of using this type of bus protection, such as fast and safe operation, even when under adverse conditions such as current transformers (CTs) magnetic core saturation upon the occurrence of external faults.

Transcriptome analysis of the Tityus serrulatusscorpion venom gland

The Tityus serrulatus scorpion is considered the most dangerous scorpion in Brazil and is responsible for several cases of human envenomation annually. In this study, we performed transcriptome profiling of the T. serrulatus venom gland. In addition to transcripts with housekeeping functions, such as those related to protein synthesis, energy supply and structural processes, transcripts from thirty-five families of venom peptides or proteins were identified. These transcripts included three new complete sequences of toxins and more than a dozen putative venom gland proteins/peptides. The venom gland transcriptome profile was verified by comparison with the previously determined proteomic profile. In conclusion, this transcriptome data provides novel insights into the putative mechanisms underlying the venomous character of T. serrulatus. The collected data of scorpion transcripts and proteins/peptides described herein may be an important resource for identifying candidate targets of molecular therapies and preventative measures.

Gas Exchange and Production of Photosynthetic Pigments of Piper aduncuml. Grown at Different Irradiances

The species Piper aduncum is a plant with great economic potential, because the essential oil has antimicrobial activity and insecticides. Thus, as the light directly affects photosynthesis process, the present study evaluated the gas exchanges’ variables and photosynthetic pigments’ production of P. aduncum grown under different irradiances. Treatments consisted in environments with 100%, 70% and 50% of irradiance and environments with colored nets (red and blue). After 150 days of culture, photosynthetic activity (A), stomatal conductance (gs) transpiration rate (E), internal CO2 concentration (Ci), deficit vapor pressure (DVP), leaf temperature, concentration of internal/external CO2 (Ci/Ca), carboxylation efficiency (A/Ci) and efficiency water use (A/E) were evaluated. Pigments chlorophyll a, b, carotenoids, total and chlorophyll a/b ratio were also measured. From the observed data, it can be concluded that the species Piper aduncun developed various mechanisms for adaptation to different irradiance conditions. Moreover, it can be inferred that their photosynthetic process is more efficient and has larger spectral intensities of light, with higher efficiency photosynthetic when grown under 70% and 100% of radiation.

Impacts of Climate Change on the Hydrology of a Small Brazilian Headwater Catchment Using the Distributed Hydrology-Soil-Vegetation Model

Climate change is one of the greatest issues for human society. The objective of this study is to assess the impacts of future climate change on seasonal average discharge and monthly water budget in a small headwater catchment, located on the Grande River basin, in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The assessment is carried out using the hydrology model, DHSVM. The atmospheric forcing to drive the Distributed Hydrology-Soil-Vegetation Model (DHSVM) is derived from the downscaling of the HadGEM2-ES projections by the Eta Regional Climate Model, at 5-km high resolution. The projections assume the RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 IPCC AR5 emission scenarios. Baseline period was taken between 1961 and 1990. The projections are assessed in three time slices (2011-2040, 2041-2070 and 2071-2099). The climate change is assessed in time slices of 30 years and in comparison against the baseline period to evaluate the hydrological changes in the catchment. The results showed differences in the hydrological behavior between the emission scenarios and though time slices. Reductions in the magnitude of the seasonal average discharge and monthly water budget may alter the water availability. Under the RCP4.5 scenario, results show greater reductions in the water availability in the first time slice, whereas under RCP8.5 scenario greater reductions are indicated in the third time slice.

Auricularia has a wide distribution all over the world and is very important due to its edibility and medicinal properties. Morphological examinations and phylogenetic analyses of 255 samples from 34 countries in Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Africa and Oceania were carried out.Phylogenetic analyses were based on sequences of ITS, n lSU and rpb2 using methods of Maximum pasimony, Maximum likelihood and Bayesian analyses. According to the morphological and/or molecular characteristics, 33 Auricularia species are determined in the world. Six new species, A. camposi and A.novozealandica in the A. cornea complex, A. lateralis and A. sinodelicata in the A. delicata complex, A.africana and A. submesenterica in the A. mesenterica complex, are described. In addition, two species A.pusio and A. tremellosa respectively belonging to the A. mesenterica complex and the A. delicata complex are redefined. The morphological characteristics, illustrations, ecological habits, hosts and geographical distributions of these 33 species are outlined and discussed. Phylogenetic relationships based on the ITS dataset of 28 species and the concatenated ITS+nlSU+rpb2 dataset of 21 species are elluciated and discussed. In addition, morphological differences and phylogenetic relationships of species in five Auriculara complexes: the A. auricula-judae complex, the A. cornea complex, the A. delicata complex,the A. fuscosuccinea complex and the A. mesenterica complex, are elaborated. Synopsis data on comparisons of species in the four complexes are provided. An identification key for the accepted 33 species is proposed.

DNA vaccines are the third generation vaccines based on purified plasmid preparations containing transgenes that encode antigenic/therapeutic proteins or peptides capable of triggering an immune response against a wide range of diseases. This vaccine platform presents several attributes that confer distinct advantages over other vaccine technologies in terms of safety, ease of fabrication and stability. Many aspects, such as antigen expression and especially vector design, are under study because of their great influence on immunogenicity and efficacy of DNA vaccines. In this regard, with the attempt of improving the efficiency of DNA vaccines, co-expression of stimulatory sequences and diverse vector delivery systems are being optimized. With this in mind, this review aims to giving a conceptual approach of DNA vaccines, explaining their mechanisms of action and listing the already licensed veterinary DNA vaccines presented in the market.

Cultivation of “Roxo de Valinhos” Fig Tree in Different Plant Densities for Production of Green Figs for Industry in the Region of Campo Das Vertentes-MG

The objective of this work was to study the effect of different planting densities on the development and production of “Roxo de Valinhos” green figs for industry, in the Campo das Vertentes-MG region. The experiment was installed at the Risoleta Neves Experimental Field—CERN/EPAMIG. The plants used were three years old and were arranged in three randomized blocks, subject to three different planting densities, with spacings ranging from 1 m (4000 plants·ha-1), 1.5 m (2666 plants·ha-1), and 2 m (2000 plants·ha-1) between plants in the planting line and 2.5 m between row for all planting densities. The average length of the branches (m), average number of fruits per branch, average number of fruits per plant, average weight of fruits, average yield per plant and the average yield per hectare (kg) were evaluated. It was verified that, there were no significant differences in the length of branch and in the average weight of fruit, in the three densities of fig tree planting. (4000 plants·ha-1), the average number of fruits per branch (7.5), per plant (55.87) and yield per plant (878.93 kg) were lower, however. The average yield per hectare (3515.73 kg) was higher than in other growing densities. It is concluded that, the higher density of plants (4000 plants·ha-1), provides the highest productivity per area, without damages to the quality of the fruits.

Optimization of the Protocol for the in VitroCultivation of Piper aduncuml.

Piper aduncum l. (Piperaceae) has great potential for economic exploration because of the proven use of its essential oil in the agriculture and in the human health. A technique that improves its propagation, as the tissue culture, becomes necessary. Some parameters must be determined for the successful cultivation in vitro. Thus, this study aimed to determine the salts concentration of MS medium, temperature, luminosity and light quality for in vitro culture of this species. The following treatments were conducted: 1/4MS, 1/2MS, MS and 2MS;20℃, 25℃, 30℃ and 35℃;monochromatic blue, red and white lights and the combination of red and blue, using light emitting diodes (lEDs);luminosities of 17, 37, 48 and 73 μmol·m-2·s-1 obtained with cool white fluorescent lamp. After 35 days, the treatments were analyzed. To determine the salts concentration of MS, the variables were evaluated: number of shoots, leaves and roots, length and width of leaves, length and dry mass of root and shoots and percentage of death by necrosis. To the plantlets under different temperatures, length and dry mass of shoot and root, number of shoots, number, length and width of leaves and survival and rooting percentages were measured. The plantlets that were maintained under different luminosities were evaluated for length of shoot and root, dry mass of leaf and root. To evaluate the growth under the lEDs, the length and dry mass of shoot and root, number of shoots and roots, percentage of rooting and sprouting were assessed. The medium 1/4MS and the medium 1/2MS showed better responses for number and length of root, leaf width and shoot length. The temperature 25℃ provided the highest number of leaves, length of shoot and root, root dry mass and rooting percentage. The luminosity 73 μmol·m-2·s-1 provided higher values in length of root and dry mass of leaf and root. The red lED provided plantlets with greater growth.
