Background:Thrombocytopenia is a possible risk factor for bleeding after band ligation of esophageal ***,elevated von Willebrand factor(VWF)in cirrhosis improves platelet function and could decrease this *** objective was to assess platelet function in patients with cirrhosis undergoing esophageal variceal ligation(EVL).Methods:The assessment consisted of platelet count,antigen and activity of VWF and VWF-cleaving protease ADAMTS-13 activity,and a platelet adhesion and aggregation test simulating vascular flow in vivo(Impact-RR)prior to ***:Totally 111 patients were divided into three groups according to platelet count:(1)100×109/L(n=26,23.4%).No statistically significant difference was found in the aggregate size of platelets[group 1:41.0(31.8–67.3)μm 2;group 2:47.0(33.8–71.3)μm 2;and group 3:47.0(34.0–66.0)μm 2;P=0.60]and no significant correlation was found between aggregate size and platelet count(Spearman r=0.07;P=0.47).Surface coverage was 4.1%(2.8%–6.7%),8.5%(4.0%–10.0%),and 9.0%(7.1%–12.0%)(P<0.001)in groups 1,2 and 3,respectively and correlated with platelet count(Spearman r=0.39;P<0.0001).There was no significant difference between groups in VWF or ***-EVL bleeding occurred in six(5.4%)patients(n=2 in group 1,n=1 in group 2,and n=3 in group 3;P=0.32).Patients with bleeding had higher MELD scores[15.0(11.3–20.3)versus 12.0(10.0–15.0);P=0.025],but no difference was demonstrated for platelet function ***:Platelet function is preserved even in the presence of thrombocytopenia,including in the patients with post-EVL bleeding.

The descriptive epidemiology of sitting in Chilean adults: Results from the National Health Survey 2009-2010

Background: Although evidence on the health effects of sedentary behavior(SB) has grown systematically in recent years, few developing countries have reported population levels of SB, especially in South America. Our objective was to describe time spent sitting in a representative sample from Chile categorized by age, gender, educational level, and body mass index(BMI).Methods: A national health survey was conducted in Chile in a nationally representative sample(n = 5411) in 2009-2010. Sitting time(ST) was measured with the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire Version ***: Data were from 5031 participants(43.26±0.41 years, mean±SE; 40.3% male). Overall, there were no gender differences in mean ST(men: 158.10±5.80 min/day, women 143.45±4.77 min/day; p = 0.05). ST was lower in those who lived in rural areas compared with urban areas(99.4 min/day vs. 160.0 min/day; p = 0.001). ST increased significantly with increasing BMI, but only in men(p = 0.009), and was positively related to years of education in both men and women(p < 0.0001).Conclusion: The findings were different from those reported in other countries and contexts, reinforcing the need for international surveillance and monitoring over time to inform policy makers. Differences in ST across different groups emphasize the need to develop tailored messages and interventions for reducing ST in different population subgroups.

According to the National Company of Supplying(CONAB)in 2017 alone,the national production of acai pulp reached 219855 t,equating to 180 million dollar(USD).Almost 85%of the weight of fruit is constituted by residual biomass,even though researches have highlighted important applications for this biomass,most of it is discarded as organic ***,it is relevant to envisage in-depth studies about how to use these residues,particularly regarding the environmental impact of its target *** cellulose(CNC)and lignin are organic derivatives obtained through the physical-chemical treatment of lignocellulosic *** are abundant and currently considered as biopolymers because of their structural characteristics and their diverse applications in food and the medical *** work presents the mass yields achieved and the physical-chemical characteristics of the lignocellulosic derivatives extracted from the fiber of the acai berry.A statistical design was used to define the influence of process variables as temperature,reaction time and fiber size on the yield of these byproducts.A maximum yield close to 64%of type I CNC,with 45%of crystallinity degree was achieved at the minimum condition of temperature and fiber ***,through rheological analysis,it was possible to predict the nanocrystal aspect ratios,ranging from 71 to *** extracted lignin was rich in methoxy groups,p-coumaryl alcohol and p-coumaric acid,and its structural unit’s low state of aggregation can be an indication of low molecular weight,which envisions an appropriate use for this lignin to produce commodity chemicals.

Ovarian cancer is a lethal gynecologic malignancy with greater than 70% of women presenting with advanced stage disease. Despite new treatments, long term outcomes have not significantly changed in the past 30 years with the five-year overall survival remaining between 20% and 40% for stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ disease. In contrast patients with stage Ⅰ disease have a greater than 90% five-year overall survival. Detection of ovarian cancer at an early stage would likely have significant impact on mortality rate. Screening biomarkers discovered at the bench have not translated to success in clinical trials. Existing screening modalities have not demonstrated survival benefit in completed prospective trials. Advances in high throughput screening are making it possible to evaluate the development of ovarian cancer in ways never before imagined. Data in the form of human "-omes" including the proteome, genome, metabolome, and transcriptome are now available in various packaged forms. With the correct pooling of resources including prospective collection of patient specimens, integration of high throughput screening, and use of molecular heterogeneity in biomarker discovery, we are poised to make progress in ovarian cancer screening. This review will summarize current biomarkers, imaging, and multimodality screening strategies in the context of emerging technologies.

Civil construction is one of the largest consumers of raw materials and producers of waste, which has been causing environmental problems both through the extraction of raw materials and through building activity by generation of waste. Notwithstanding the need to find an optimum use for solid construction residue to try to solve or minimize this problem, there are no standards for the process of obtaining the CDR （construction and demolition residue）. Thus, the aim of this study was to develop a method of collecting solid waste at the construction site that is easy and low-cost and thus can be applied throughout the construction industry. This collection method was designed to produce residue with the desired proprieties and obtain the best possible homogeneity. This method permitted to evaluate the factors generating construction residue more precisely.

A genetic linkage map of the threatened catfish Lophiosilurus alexandri:Inferences on effective population size

We report the first genetic linkage map of the catfish Lophiosilurus alexandri,a South American threatened and promising aquaculture catfish *** the progeny of three full-sib families,with 141,74,and 49 offspring,respectively,we could genotype 2351 SNP markers using the ddRAD technology,shared by the male and the female maps *** averaged,female and male maps spanned a total length of 2201.3 cM,2481.9 cM,and 1872.8 cM,respectively,and comprehended the expected 27 linkage groups according to the karyotype information of the species(2n=54).The recombination rate was nearly twice higher in the female than in the male *** average map was used to estimate the historical effective population size(Ne)of the species from linkage disequilibrium between pairs of SNPs using parental individuals and revealed a remarkable drop in Ne about 20-25 generations in the *** construction of the biggest artificial reservoir in Latin America and associated nutrient retention is pointed as a possible reason for such a reduction and suggests a reevaluation of the conservation status of the *** current map lays the groundwork for understanding the genetic basis of economically important traits in breeding programs and will be useful for the genome assembly of this important commercial species.

Morphophysiological Responses of Olive Plants of the Arbequina Cultivar in Acid Soils

The current study aimed to investigate the morphophysiological responses with determinations of the plant height, stem diameter, chlorophyll content, and leaf nutrients of ‘Arbequina’ olive plant in acid soils. For evaluations of plant height, stem diameter, chlorophyll content, the experimental design was completely randomized arranged in split-plot design. The factor allocated to the main plots was consisted of the time after transplant (0, 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 days after transplant—DAT) and, the factor arranged in the subplots was composed by pH with six levels 2.9;3.1;3.9;4.3;5.0;and, 6.3 (witness). In determination of leaf nutrient content (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, copper, zinc, iron, manganese, aluminium and boron) was followed the same experimental design, however, only pH was tested. Plant height, stem diameter and chlorophyll content (SPAD) are not prejudiced by acidic pH up to 150 DAT. For the different pH levels tested, the nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, copper, zinc, iron, manganese and boron foliar contents are adequate for the olive crop, except nitrogen at pH 2.9. The ‘Arbequina’ olive plants adequately support acidic soils even with accentuated additions in the foliar aluminium content.
