Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Inflammatory response after stroke determines the outcome of ischemic injury. A recent study has reported an efficient method, epidural arterial implantation(EAI), for accelerating interstitial fluid(ISF)drainage, which provides a promising strategy to clear pro-inflammatory cytokines in the brain extracellular space(ECS). In this study, the method of EAI was modified(m-EAI) to control its function of accelerating the ISF drainage at different time points following ischemic attack. The neuroprotective effect of m-EAI on ischemic stroke was evaluated with the transient middle cerebral artery occlusion(tMCAO)rat model. The results demonstrated the accumulation of IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α was significantly decreased by activating m-EAI at 7 d before and immediately after ischemic attack in tMCAO rats, accompanied with decreased infarct volume and improved neurological function. This study consolidates the hypothesis of exacerbated ischemic damage by inflammatory response and provides a new perspective to treat encephalopathy via brain ECS. Further research is essential to investigate whether m-EAI combined with neuroprotective drugs could enhance the therapeutic effect on ischemic stroke.

Influence of PVd-duplex-treated, Bionic Surface Structures on the Wetting Behavior for Sheet-Bulk Metal Forming Tools

Bionic surface structures, inspired by the flora, were developed for Sheet-Bulk Metal Forming （SBMF） in order to locally control the friction condition by adjusting the wetting behavior. Five bionic structures were micromilled on ASP 2023 in annealed as well as hardened and tempered conditions. Subsequently, the structured surfaces were plasma-nitrided and coated with a CrA1N thin film. The influence of the treatment method on the structural geometry was investigated with the aid of a scanning electron microscope and 3d-profilometer. The wetting behaviors of water and deep drawing oil （Berufluid ST6007） on bionic surfaces were evaluated using contact angle measurements. The resulting micro-milled structures exhibit an almost identical shape as their bionic models. However, the roughness of the structured surfaces is influenced by the microstructure. The combination of plasma-nitriding and Physical Vapor deposition （PVd） leads to an increase in roughness. All bionic struc- tures possess higher contact angles than that of the unstructured surfaces when wetted by water. This can be explained by the fact that the structural elevations block the spreading. When the bionic surfaces are wetted by deep drawing oil, the lubricant spreads in the structural cavities, leading to smaller contact angles. Furthermore, the anisotropy of the structure has an influence on the wetting behavior.

In this review, we recall how stars contribute to the search for dark matter and the specific role of the Sun. We describe a more complete picture of the solar interior that emerges from neutrino detections, gravity and acoustic mode measurements of the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory （SOHO） satellite, becoming a reference for the most common stars in the Universe. The Sun is a unique star in that we can observe directly the effect of dark matter. The absence of a signature related to Weakly Interacting Massive Particles （WIMPs） in its core disfavors a WIMP mass range below 12 GeV. We give arguments to continue this search on the Sun and other promising cases. We also examine another dark matter candidate, the sterile neutrino, and infer the limitations of the classical structural equations. Open questions on the young Sun, when planets formed, and on its present internal dynamics are finally dis- cussed. Future directions are proposed for the next decade： a better description of the solar core, a generalization to stars coming from seismic missions and a better under- standing of the dynamics of our galaxy which are all crucial keys for understanding dark matter.

Results from simulations of plasma and neutrals under conditions predictively characterizing the detached plasma regime in the linear machine MAGNUM-PSI are presented. The relaxation of the vibrationally excited hydrogen molecules is investigated in order to establish a relation between their relaxation and dwell times, and the role of the varions mechanisms of the molecular vibrational kinetics. Tile results obtained show that the individual vibrational states have to be inclllded in the transport code for neutrals as distinct species, since the relaxation time of tile vibrational states is sufficiently longer than the typical dwell time of hydrogen molecules in the detached plasma region. The parameters of plasma and neutrals are affected by the transport of the vibrationally excited hydrogen lnolecnles. Furthermore. the rate of molecular reconlbination is overestimated by a factor of - 5 provided that the transport of ilydrogen molecules only in their ground vibrational state is considered. The role of the various processes of vibrational kinetics is studied. The vibrational excitation through singlet electronic states ires a strong influence on the molecular densities for levels with vibrational quantum numbers v≥ 5. Vibration-vibration （V-V） collisions between vibrationally excited hydrogen molecules and vibration-translation （V-T） collisions between vibrationally excited hydrogen molecules and ground state molecules and atoms are of nlinor importance in MAGNUM-PSI.
