Non-Ablative Transvaginal Radiofrequency in the Treatment of Stress Urinary Incontinence: Review of the Literature

Background: Urinary incontinence is defined as the involuntary loss of urine, which can affect up to 45% of women after menopause. Radiofrequency is a non-invasive procedure that involves the application of an electromagnetic wave that through heat generation promotes neocollagenesis and neoeslatinogenesis in the vaginal epithelium. This energy-based technology has been studied as a potential alternative for the treatment of genitourinary syndrome of menopause and urinary incontinence. Objective: To review the recent literature (from 2020 to June 2022) on the use of transvaginal radiofrequency in the treatment of stress urinary incontinence, by searching articles at databases of Capes, PubMed Cochrane and Scielo. Methods: The descriptor terms “Urinary Incontinence/therapy” [Majr] AND “Urinary Incontinence, Stress/therapy” [Majr] AND RADIOFREQUENCY-Search Results-PubMed, [“woman” OR “women”] AND [“urinary incontinence” OR “stress urinary incontinence”] AND Radiofrequency were used, with a filter for the period 2020 to 2022. Conclusion: The studies evaluated in this review demonstrated significant results of radiofrequency in the resolution or reduction of complaints of women with urinary incontinence, especially stress urinary incontinence, but most of these studies presented a low methodological quality. There is, therefore, a lack of studies with longer follow-ups, evaluation of cost-effectiveness, randomized clinical trials with objective outcomes and the use of validated questionnaires with international acceptance.

Preservation Planning in the OAIS Model

The OAIS model has gained widespread acceptance as the fundamental design reference model for an archival system by the digital library community. One of its core entities is Preservation Planning, for which central functional entities are given yet without every detail breaking down into activities requirements. The Planets Preservation Planning approach addresses this by providing a way to make informed and accountable decisions on which preservation strategy to implement in order to most suitably preserve digital objects for a given preservation context. It allows the explicit definition of requirements and goals and offers a systematic way to evaluate preservation strategies. This paper shows the implementation of the Develop Preservation Strategies and Standards function of the OAIS model through the Planets Preservation Planning approach. Moreover, the paper examines the information flows within the OAIS Preservation Planning entity and with other functional entities with respect to the Planets model.

To describe the methodology of development of a protocol for application of the Brazilian Dietary Guidelines by primary healthcare professionals in individual dietary advice.A five-step approach was followed:(1)format definition;(2)definition of the instrument for assessment of individuals’food consumption;(3)Dietary Guidelines’content extraction;(4)protocol content development;(5)content and face *** example from Brazil was displayed with the development of a protocol to guide healthcare professional decision-making when providing nutrition advice based on the Brazilian Dietary *** instrument of the Brazilian Nutrition Surveillance System(SISVAN)was chosen to the food consumption assessment,which contains questions about the consumption of seven healthy or unhealthy food groups and one question about eating *** Guidelines’content extraction process led to the identification of recommendations related to the food consumption markers assessed by the SISVAN ***,a protocol was developed in a flowchart format,in which the professional’s conduct is guided by the answer given to each question of the SISVAN *** each‘non-compliant’answer(unhealthy eating practice),the professional is instructed how to provide recommendations and identify ***,experts and healthcare professionals highlighted pertinence,clarity and usability of the *** study provides the blueprint for the phase-wise development of protocols of application of the Dietary Guidelines and may contribute to promote healthier eating and ending malnutrition in all its forms.

High Energy Electron Radiation Exposure Facility at PSI

Paul Scherrer Institut hosts the Proton Irradiation Facility used for radiation effects studies and exposure tests in preparation of satellite missions for the European Space Agency. The facility allows for realistic simulation of the space proton spectra in the energy range from 6 MeV up to 230 MeV with exposure fluxes ranging from very low up to as high as 109 p/cm2/sec. Recently, approved ESA mission to Jupiter—JUICE—also brought a need for tests with high energy electron beams. For this purpose, another facility was established in the PSI secondary beam area piM1. Secondary particles are produced on the thick carbon target hit by energetic proton beam. Dedicated beam optics enables selection of the particle charge and momentum and guides them to the tests area. Characterization of electron beams at various momenta was performed with respect to their intensity, profiles and contamination by pions and muons. Electron fluxes ranging from 1.5 × 103/cm2/s at 20 MeV/c to 2.3 × 106/cm2/s at 345 MeV/c with gaussian beam profiles with FWHM of about 4 cm were measured. Beam contamination with heavier particles becomes negligible for all momenta lower than 115 MeV/c. This allows for using them for components and shielding characterization and detector calibration experiments. Several such experiments have been already performed utilizing available beam time of few weeks per year.
