Previous studies indicated that fruit bats carry two betacoronaviruses,BatCoV HKU9 and BatCoV *** investigate the epidemiology and genetic diversity of these coronaviruses,we conducted a longitudinal surveillance in fruit bats in Yunnan province,China during 2009–2016.A total of 59(10.63%)bat samples were positive for the two betacorona-viruses,46(8.29%)for HKU9 and 13(2.34%)for GCCDC1,or closely related *** identified a novel HKU9 strain,tentatively designated as BatCoV HKU9-2202,by sequencing the full-length *** BatCoV HKU9-2202 shared 83%nucleotide identity with other BatCoV HKU9 stains based on whole genome *** most divergent region is in the spike protein,which only shares 68%amino acid identity with BatCoV *** PCR revealed that the intestine was the primary infection organ of BatCoV HKU9 and GCCDC1,but some HKU9 was also detected in the heart,kidney,and lung tissues of *** study highlights the importance of virus surveillance in natural reservoirs and emphasizes the need for preparedness against the potential spill-over of these viruses to local residents living near bat caves.

Dear Editor,The ongoing COVID-19 disease,caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-Co V-2),has led to over 112 million confirmed cases and 2.4 million deaths in more than 220 countries as of 25 February 2021(WHO 2021).Hospital-admitted patients show clinical features including fever,dry cough,fatigue,dyspnea,lymphopenia,and pneumonia with radiological groundglass lung opacities(Huang et al.2020;Guan et al.2020).SARS-Co V-2 was quickly isolated and could be detected in clinical samples,such as nasopharyngeal swabs,sputum,alveolar lavage fluid,and feces,as well as occasionally in seminal fluid and tears among other sources(Bhat et al.2020;Li et al.2020),which means that it can infect a variety of human tissues and organs.

The ongoing coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic caused more than 96 million infections and over 2 million deaths worldwide so ***,there is no approved vaccine available for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),the disease causative *** is the most effective approach to eradicate a *** tests of safety and efficacy in animals are pivotal for developing a vaccine and before the vaccine is applied to human *** we evaluated the safety,immunogenicity,and efficacy of an inactivated vaccine based on the whole viral particles in human ACE2 transgenic mouse and in non-human *** data showed that the inactivated vaccine successfully induced SARS-CoV-2-specific neutralizing antibodies in mice and non-human primates,and subsequently provided partial(in low dose)or full(in high dose)protection of challenge in the tested *** addition,passive serum transferred from vaccine-immunized mice could also provide full protection from SARS-CoV-2 infection in *** results warranted positive outcomes in future clinical trials in humans.

Biodegradation of phenol and m-cresol by mutated Candida tropicalis

The phenol and m-cresol biodegradations were studied using the mutant strain CTM 2 obtained by the He-Ne laser irradiation on wild-type Candida tropicalis. The results showed that C. tropicalis exhibited the increased capacity of phenolic compounds degradation after laser irradiation. It could degrade 2600 mg/L phenol and 300 mg/L m-cresol by 5% inoculum concentration, respectively. In the dual-substrate biodegradation system, 0-500 mg/L phenol could accelerate m-cresol biodegradation, and 300 mg/L m-cresol could be completely utilized within 46 hr at the presence of 350 mg/L phenol. Besides, the maximum biodegradation of m-cresol could reach 350 mg/L with 80 mg/L phenol within 61 hr. Obviously, phenol, as a growth substrate, could promote CTM 2 to degrade m-cresol, and was always preferentially utilized as carbon source. Comparatively, low-concentration m-cresol could result in a great inhibition on phenol degradation. In addition, the kinetic behaviors of cell growth and substrate biodegradation were described by kinetic model proposed in our laboratory.

As an industry-university cooperative project, an experimental research was conducted to develop a new cold-rolled transformation-induced plasticity （TRIP） steel with a tensile strength of 780 MPa and an elongation of 25% under the conditions that some processing parameters were preestablished according to the actual conditions of factory production lines. The optimal heat treatment conditions for obtaining excellent strength-ductility balance, specifically in intercritical annealing temperature and isothermal treatment temperature, were investigated by means of thermal simulation tests. Ultimately the desirable mechanical properties were attained successfully, and the microstructure and retained austenite stability were studied by optical microscopy （OM） and electron back-scattered diffraction （EBSD）. It has been discovered that the sizes of retained austenite grains are generally proportional to the sizes of carbon-clear space （ferrite and bainite） around them, and there is marked selectivity in their transition sequences under stress-strain.

An Interdecadal Change in the Influence of the NAO on Atlantic-Induced Arctic Daily Warming around the Mid-1980s

After approaching 0℃owing to an Atlantic storm at the end of 2015,the Arctic temperature approached freezing again in 2022,indicating that Arctic daily warming events remain a *** NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis dataset was used to investigate the influence of the NAO on the Arctic winter daily warming events induced by Atlantic storms,known as the Atlantic pattern-Arctic Rapid Tropospheric Daily Warming(Atlantic-RTDW)***-RTDW events are triggered by Atlantic storms that transport warm and humid air masses moving into the ***,an interdecadal change in the influence of NAO on Atlantic-RTDW-event frequency was observed around the ***,before the mid-1980s(pre-transition period),500-hPa southerly(northerly)wind anomalies occupied the North Atlantic(NA)in the positive(negative)phase of NAO,which increased(decreased)the Atlantic-RTDW events occurrence by steering Atlantic storms into(away from)the Arctic;thus,the NAO could potentially influence the Atlantic-RTDW-event ***,the relationship between the NAO and the Atlantic-RTDW-event frequency has weakened since the mid-1980s(post-transition period).In the post-transition period,such 500-hPa southerly(northerly)wind anomalies over the NA hardly existed in the positive(negative)phase of NAO,which was attributed to a stronger Atlantic Storm Track(AST)activity intensity than that in the pre-transition *** this period,the strong AST induced an enhanced NAOrelated cyclone via transient eddy-mean flow interactions,resulting in the disappearance of southerly and northerly wind anomalies over the NA.
