Novel Hollow Re-entrant Structures Improving Hydrophobicity of Metal Surfaces

Re-entrant structures have drawn increasing attention because of their hydrophobicity.However,it is very difficult to manufacture re-entrant structures at the micron scale on metal surfaces.In this study,we designed and manufactured novel hollow re-entrant structures employing laser ablation and electrodeposition technology.This designed hollow re-entrant structure on metal surfaces has been fabricated successfully,which has high processing efficiency and good repeatability.The morphology and size of the hollow re-entrant structures were characterized.We found that the hydrophobic performance of hollow re-entrant structures was improved after being in the atmosphere for 3 days.After electrodeposition,the static contact angle was 133°.However,after being placed in the atmosphere for 3 days,the static contact angle was 140.4°,which is 5.2%higher than that after electrochemical deposition.We explained the cause of this phenomenon.The change of element content on the surface of hollow re-entrant structures was used to indicate the formation of metal oxide.After being in the atmosphere for 3 days,oxygen content increased by 0.4%.The metal surfaces with hollow re-entrant structures have a broader application prospect.

Cancer treatments always face challenging problems,particularly drug resistance due to tumor cell heterogeneity.The existing datasets include the relationship between gene expression and drug sensitivities;however,the majority are based on tissue-level studies.Study drugs at the single-cell level are perspective to overcome minimal residual disease caused by subclonal resistant cancer cells retained after initial curative therapy.Fortunately,machine learning techniques can help us understand how different types of cells respond to different cancer drugs from the perspective of single-cell gene expression.Good modeling using single-cell data and drug response information will not only improve machine learning for cell-drug outcome prediction but also facilitate the discovery of drugs for specific cancer subgroups and specific cancer treatments.In this paper,we review machine learning and deep learning approaches in drug research.By analyzing the application of these methods on cancer cell lines and single-cell data and comparing the technical gap between single-cell sequencing data analysis and single-cell drug sensitivity analysis,we hope to explore the trends and potential of drug research at the single-cell data level and provide more inspiration for drug research at the single-cell level.We anticipate that this review will stimulate the innovative use of machine learning methods to address new challenges in precision medicine more broadly.

Room-temperature sodium–sulfur(RT/Na–S)batteries are regarded as promising large-scale stationary energy storage systems owing to their high energy density and low cost as well as the earth-abundant reserves of sodium and sulfur.However,the diffusion of polysulfides and sluggish kinetics of conversion reactions are still major challenges for their application.Herein,we developed a powerful and functional separator to inhibit the shuttle effect by coating a lightweight three-dimensional cellulose nanofiber-derived carbon aerogel on a glass fiber separator(denoted NSCA@GF).The hierarchical porous structures,favorable electronic conductivity,and three-dimensional interconnected network of N,S-codoped carbon aerogel endow a multifunctional separator with strong polysulfide anchoring capability and fast reaction kinetics of polysulfide conversion,which can act as the barrier layer and an expanded current collector to increase sulfur utilization.Moreover,the hetero-doped N/S sites are believed to strengthen polysulfide anchoring capability via chemisorption and accelerate the redox kinetics of polysulfide conversion,which is confirmed from experimental and theoretical results.As a result,the assembled Na–S coin cells with the NSCA@GF separator showed a high reversible capacity(788.8 mAh g^(−1) at 0.1 C after 100 cycles)and superior cycling stability(only 0.059%capacity decay per cycle over 1000 cycles at 1 C),thereby demonstrating the significant potential for application in high-performance RT/Na–S batteries.

Launch of the world's leading tonnage Mg-based solid-state hydrogen storage and transportation trailer Large-scale,safe,and efficient hydrogen storage has long been considered as the bottleneck to the worldwide application of hydrogen energy in human society and industries[1-6].Recently,a tonnage Mg-based solid-state hydrogen storage and transportation trailer(named as MH-100T)(Fig.1)developed jointly by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai Hyfun Energy Technology Co.,Ltd.,was officially unveiled both in Shanghai and World Hydrogen Technology Convention(WHTC,May 22nd-26th,2023)held in Foshan,marking a new breakthrough in the field of hydrogen storage and transportation.Profs.Jianxin zou,Wenjiang Ding,and their team provide key technical support for the development of this solid-state hydrogen storage and transportation trailer.

Two-dimensional(2D)perovskites are known as one of the most promising luminescent materials due to their structural diversity and outstanding optoelectronic properties.Compared with 3D perovskites,2D perovskites have natural quantum well structures,large exciton binding energy(Eb)and outstanding thermal stability,which shows great potential in the next-generation displays and solidstate lighting.In this review,the fundamental structure,photophysical and electrical properties of 2D perovskite films were illustrated systematically.Based on the advantages of 2D perovskites,such as special energy funnel process,ultrafast energy transfer,dense film and low efficiency roll-off,the remarkable achievements of 2D perovskite light-emitting diodes(PeLEDs)are summarized,and exciting challenges of 2D perovskite are also discussed.An outlook on further improving the efficiency of pure-blue PeLEDs,enhancing the operational stability of PeLEDs and reducing the toxicity to push this field forward was also provided.This review provides an overview of the recent developments of 2D perovskite materials and LED applications,and outlining challenges for achieving the high-performance devices.

Copper sulfide(CuS)is a promising cathode for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)due to its impeccable theoretical energy density(~1015 Wh·kg^(−1) and 4743 Wh·L^(−1)).However,it suffers from voltage decay leaded energy density loss and low energy efficiency,which hinders its application.In this work,with combined ex-situ/in-situ X-ray diffraction(XRD)and electrochemical analysis,we explore detailed degradation mechanisms.For the voltage decay,it is attributed to a spontaneous reaction between CuS cathode and copper current collector(Cu CC).This reaction leads to energy density loss and active materials degradation(CuS→Cu_(1.81)S).As for energy efficiency,CuS undergoes a series of phase transformations.The main phase transition processes are CuS→α-LiCuS→Li_(2−x)Cu_(x)S+Cu→Li_(2)S+Cu for discharge;Li_(2)S+Cu→Li_(2−x)Cu_(x)S→β-LiCuS→CuS for charge.Here,α-LiCuS,β-LiCuS,and Li_(2−x)CuxS are newly identified phases.These phase changes are driven by topotactic-reaction-related copper diffusion and rearrangement.This work demonstrates the significance of transition-metal diffusion in the intermediates formation and phase change in conversion-type materials.

A new technique for identifying regional climate events, the Objective Identification Technique for Regional Extreme Events（OITREE）, was applied to investigate the characteristics of regional heavy rainfall events in China during the period1961–2012. In total, 373 regional heavy rainfall events（RHREs） were identified during the past 52 years. The East Asian summer monsoon（EASM） had an important influence on the annual variations of China＇s RHRE activities, with a significant relationship between the intensity of the RHREs and the intensity of the Mei-yu. Although the increase in the frequency of those RHREs was not significant, China experienced more severe and extreme regional rainfall events in the 1990 s. The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the northern part of South China were the regions in the country most susceptible to extreme precipitation events. Some stations showed significant increasing trends in the southern part of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the northern part of South China, while parts of North China, regions between Guangxi and Guangdong, and northern Sichuan showed decreasing trends in the accumulated intensity of RHREs.The spatial distribution of the linear trends of events＇ accumulated intensity displayed a similar so-called ＂southern flooding and northern drought＂ pattern over eastern China in recent decades.

Xinzhai sandstone-type copper deposit located in northern Laos lies in the Jiangcheng-Phongsaly-Phrae Mesozoic basin(JPMB), which is regarded as southern extension of the Lanping-Simao Mesozoic basin in China. The copper deposit belt is bounded by the AilaoshanHeishui River fault and the Dian Bien Phu-Luang Prabang fault at the east and Lancang RiverBannankan faults at the west. Two types of orebodies are identified in the Xinzhai area based on geological investigation. One is lamellar copper orebody hosted by the fine lithic feldspar sandstones and feldspar lithic sandstones; another is vein-type orebody. The sulfur isotopic compositions of the chalcopyrite and tetrahedrite are from -11.6‰ to -1.8‰, indicating that sulfur is derived from bacterial sulfate reduction(BSR). δD values of fluid inclusions in ore-bearing quartz samples are from -99‰ to -78‰. The calculated δ^(18)OH_2O values of ore-forming fluid vary from -2.3‰ to 0.4‰ using the quartz-water fractionation equations and the mineralization temperature. Oxygen and hydrogen isotopic compositions show that the ore-forming fluid was derived from basin fluid. Rock-mineral identifications show that both of the mineral grain maturity and the structural maturity are high in the Jurassic Huakaizuo Formation, reflecting a far-source accumulation and lake facies sedimentatary environment. Based on tectonic determination diagram of the Al_2O_3/SiO_2-TFe+MgO, the sandstone samples collected from the Huakaizuo Formation were plotted in the passive continental margin. The collision of the Indian and Eurasian blocks during the Cenozoic formed large-scale strikeslips and thrust nappe structures in margin of the basin. With the tectonic movement, Cu-rich basin fluid from the basement of basin migrated upward along the contemporaneous fault and into the high porosity strata. At the same time, in organic matter-riched condition, bacterial sulfate reduction(BSR) has been triggered, forming a large number of S^(2-) ions, and then precipitation of sulfide started.
