Osteocyte m.rphology and orientation in relation to strain in the jaw bone

Bone m.ss is im.ortant f.r dental im.lant success and is regulated by m.chanoresponsive osteocytes. We aim.d to investigate the relationship between the levels and orientation of.tensile strain and m.rphology and orientation of.osteocytes at dif.erent dental im.lant positions in the m.xillary bone. Bone biopsies were retrieved f.om.eight patients who underwent m.xillary sinus-f.oor elevation with β-tricalcium.phosphate prior to im.lant placem.nt. Gap versus f.ee-ending locations were com.ared using 1) a three-dim.nsional f.nite-elem.nt m.del of.the m.xilla to predict the tensile strain m.gnitude and direction and 2) histology and histom.rphom.tric analyses. The f.nite-elem.nt m.del predicted larger, dif.erently directed tensile strains in the gap versus f.eeending locations. The m.an percentage of.m.neralised residual native-tissue volum., osteocyte num.er(m.an ± standard deviations:97 ± 40/region-of.interest), and osteocyte shape(90% elongated,10% round) were sim.lar f.r both locations. However, the osteocyte surf.ce area was 1.5-tim.s larger in the gap than in the f.ee-ending locations, and the elongated osteocytes in these locations were m.re cranially caudally oriented. In conclusion, signif.cant dif.erences in the osteocyte surf.ce area and orientation seem.to exist locally in the m.xillary bone, which m.y be related to the tensile strain m.gnitude and orientation. This m.ght ref.ect local dif.erences in the osteocyte m.chanosensitivity and bone quality, suggesting dif.erences in dental im.lant success based on the location in the m.xilla.

Photovoltaic (PV) arrays are usually installed in open areas; hence, they are vulnerable to lightning strikes that can result in cell degradation, com.lete dam.ge, service disruption, and increased m.intenance costs. As a result, it is im.erative to develop an ef.ective and ef.icient lightning protection system.by evaluating the transient behaviour of.PV arrays during lightning events. The aim.is to evaluate the transient analysis of.large-scale PV system. when subjected to lightning strikes using the f.nite dif.erence tim. dom.in (f.TD) technique. Transient overvoltages are calculated at various points within the m.unting system. To optim.se the f.TD m.thod's execution tim. and m.ke it m.re suitable f.r less powerf.l hardware, a variable cell size approach is em.loyed. Specif.cally, larger cell dim.nsions are used in the earthing system.and sm.ller cell dim.nsions are used in the m.unting system. The f.TD m.thod is utilised to calculate the tem.oral variation of.transient overvoltages f.r large-scale PV system. under dif.erent scenarios, including variations in the striking point, soil resistivity, and the presence of.a m.tal f.am.. Sim.lation results indicate that the highest transient overvoltages occur at the striking point, and these values increase with the presence of.a PV m.tal f.am. as well as with higher soil resistivity. f.rtherm.re, a com.arison is perf.rm.d between the overvoltage results obtained f.om.the f.TD approach and the partial elem.nt equivalent circuit (PEEC) m.thod at the f.ur corner points of.the m.unting system. to dem.nstrate the superior accuracy of.the f.TD m.thod. Besides, a laboratory experim.nt is conducted on a sm.ll-scale PV system.to validate the sim.lation results. The calculated overvoltages obtained f.om.the f.TD and PEEC m.thods are com.ared with the m.asured values, yielding a m.an absolute error of.5% and 11% f.r the f.TD and PEEC m.thods, respectively, thereby conf.rm.ng the accuracy of.the f.TD sim.lation m.del.

Prelim.nary Application of.High-f.equency Ultrasound in the Dif.erentiation of.Pem.higus and Bullous Pem.higoid: An Observational Study

Objective: Ultrasonography is a diagnostic im.ging technique used to visualize subcutaneous body structures f.r identif.cation of.possible pathologies. In this study, we aim.d to explore the clinical signif.cance of.high-f.equency ultrasound in dif.erentiating the location of.blisters between pem.higus and bullous pem.higoid. m.thods: Eighteen patients were recruited in Departm.nt of.Derm.tology, Zhongda Hospital f.om.2020 to 2021 and divided into a pem.higus group (n = 8) and a bullous pem.higoid group (n = 10) according to the diagnostic criteria f.r each. Ultrasonographic im.ges were collected using a 50-m.z high-f.equency ultrasound system. The indexes of.ultrasonic evaluation were the layer (epiderm.s or derm.s), size, shape, internal echo, and boundary of.the blister. Categorical variables are expressed as n (%), and dif.erences were com.ared using f.sher's exact test. Results: The ultrasonographic im.ges in the pem.higus group showed an intraepiderm.l sem.-arc or irregular anechoic or hypoechoic areas. The inf.rior borders were situated above the characteristic thin linear hyperechoic bands of.the epiderm.s. A linear hypoechoic band was present at the derm.epiderm.l junction in som. cases. In the ultrasonographic im.ges of.the bullous pem.higoid group, the linear hyperechoic bands of.the epiderm.s were continuous and intact. An oval f.uid anechoic area (subepiderm.l blister) was present im.ediately below the bands. The location of.the blisters in the ultrasonographic im.ges was signif.cantly dif.erent between the 2 groups (P f.equency ultrasound can be used as an auxiliary m.ans to dif.erentiate the location of.blisters between pem.higus and bullous pem.higoid. © 2022 Hospital f.r Skin Diseases (Institute of.Derm.tology), Chinese Academ. of.m.dical Sciences, and Chinese m.dical Association, published by Wolters Kluwer, Inc.

Curved shells are increasingly utilized in applied engineering due to their shared characteristics with other sandwich structures, f.exibility, and attractive appearance. However, the inability of.controlling and regulating vibrations and destroying them.af.erward is a challenge to scientists. In this paper, the curve shell equations and a linear quadratic regulator are adopted f.r the state f.edback design to m.nage the structure vibrations in state space f.rm.. A f.ve-layer sandwich doubly curved m.cro-com.osite shell, com.rising two piezoelectric layers f.r the sensor and actuator, is m.deled by the f.urth-order shear def.rm.tion theory. The core(honeycom., truss, and corrugated) is analyzed f.r the bearing of.transverse shear f.rces. The results show that the honeycom. core has a greater ef.ect on the vibrations. When the param.ters related to the core and the weight percentage of.graphene increase, the f.equency increases. The unif.rm.distribution of.graphene platelets results in the lowest natural f.equency while the natural f.equency increases. f.rtherm.re, without taking into account the piezoelectric layers,the third-order shear def.rm.tion theory(TSDT) and f.urth-order shear def.rm.tion theory(f.SDT) align closely. However, when the piezoelectric layers are incorporated,these two theories diverge signif.cantly, with the f.equencies in the f.SDT being lower than those in the TSDT.

Ef.ects of.Supplem.ntal Glutam.ne and Lysine on Growth Perf.rm.nce of.Broiler Chickens

The optim.m.levels of.Lysine and Glutam.ne needed f.r growth perf.rm.nce and m.intenance of.the chicken broilers were evaluated in a random.zed 3 × 4 f.ctorial arrangem.nt of.dietary treatm.nts. The battery cages m.asured 99 × 66 × 25 cm.that can be suf.icient f.r 5 birds. Day old Chicken broilers totaling 180 were assigned to dietary treatm.nts com.rising of.3 concentrations of.Lysine (0.85, 1.14, and 1.42) each in com.ination with 4 concentrations of.Glutam.ne (0, 1, 2, and 3). Each dietary treatm.nt was replicated 3 tim.s and each replication had 5 birds. The birds were given f.ed and water ad libitum.with a 23-hour light regim.n f.r a period of.4 weeks. Then, the experim.ntal birds were evaluated f.r body weight gain, f.ed consum.tion, and f.ed conversion in order to determ.ne their optim.m.requirem.nt f.r dietary Lysine and Glutam.ne. Based on the f.ndings of.this study, the highest perf.rm.nce was observed in birds f.d the diet supplem.nted with 1.42 lysine and 1% glutam.ne, but the highest im.rovem.nt in f.ed conversion was observed in diet contain 1.14 and 1.42 with 1% and 3% glutam.ne, respectively. Birds f.d 1.42 lysine and 1% glutam.ne had the highest total body weight gain and f.ed consum.tion. The lysine requirem.nts in the diet f.r Chicken are between 1.14 and 1.42 with glutam.ne level of.1%.

Bio-f.rtilizer Im.roved Oil Palm.Seedling Growth

In m.st f.rm.ng system. newly introduced com.ercial f.rtilizers to be accepted, adopted and used by f.rm.rs, their ef.ectiveness and appropriate application rates m.st be exhibited. This study was conducted to validate the ef.ect and rates of.a bio-f.rtilizer (super agric) on oil palm.seedling growth. The trial was laid out in a random.zed com.lete block design (RCBD) with three application rates of.0, 4 and 8 m./L of.water (treatm.nts) replicated thrice. f.llowing the application of.super agric to oil palm.seedlings f.r a period of.six m.nths, observations drawn f.om.the analysis of.growth data were as f.llows: Three m.nths af.er treatm.nt, super agric signif.cantly (P f.oil palm.seedling com.ared to those which were not applied with super agric. The results also showed that when super agric was applied at a rate of.4 m./L, the leaf.length and breadth were higher com.ared to the control were super agric was not used. f.rtherm.re, applications of.super agric im.roved oil palm.seedling nitrogen uptake by 31% in treatm.nt groups as com.ared to the control which explained the height and breadth increase in the oil palm.seedlings that were applied with super agric. On the other hand, the ef.ect of.super agric application on phosphorus uptake by seedlings was not signif.cant. Although the height, breadth, leaf.width and length were all signif.cantly af.ected by super agric application, the num.er of.oil palm.leaves and spears were not af.ected f.r the period the experim.nt was conducted. Six m.nths af.er application of.super agric the growth of.oil palm.seedlings was f.vorably im.acted, hence we recom.end super agric to be prom.ted am.ng oil palm.seedling growers.
