Perspectives of Waste electrical and electronic Equipment in Tampico, Mexico

Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) has brought negative effects to the environment produced by the materials that compose them. The proper implementation of management plans of WEEE should integrate measures to prevent, mitigate and correct these affectations. As an initial step, it is necessary to make a diagnosis of the current situation of WEEE management which is the objective of this work. The studied zone was composed by the municipalities of Tampico, Ciudad Madero and Altamira located in southeast Tamaulipas, Mexico. The descriptive analysis of technical and regulatory aspects of the current management system in the study area was developed, including generation rates and analysis of waste streams. Among the main results, the generation of WEEE was estimated in 2040.38 tons/year for 2013, distributed in the municipalities of Tampico with 830.93 tons/year, Altamira with 650.18 tons/year, and Ciudad Madero with 559.27 tons/year. This calculation was estimated using Mexico’s WEEE generation indicators. The analysis of waste streams includes five categories of WEEE, Televisions with 61% of the total generation, followed by sound devices with 18%, personal computers with 17%;mobile phones with 2% as well as fixed phones with 1%. In the study area, reports of Tampico’s municipality indicated that 96 tons of WEEE was collected in the city of Tampico in 2013. In México, the national legislation considers WEEE in the category of waste requiring special handling (WRSH), however, it exists an inadequacy in the environmental laws about the specific classification of this kind of debris that makes their effective management more difficult. No companies who provide a management or treatment operations for WEEE are reported in Tampico, or in the near region. In addition, despite an initial interest for the municipality to attend the WEEE problematic, it exists a lack of sensibility of the population in the absence of environmental education programs.

Developing Ontology Systems as a Base of an Environmental Quality Management Model in México

The process of identifying the attributes and relationships considered in an ontology is a complex task because there are many factors involved in the deterioration of environmental quality, the diversity of sources and data dispersion. This work presents an ontology that integrates the data required by an Environmental Quality Synoptic System (EQSS), which to date scatters in different Internet sites and concentrates by different agencies for example INEGI, CONABIO, SEMARNAT, CNA, among others. The methodology process consists of the collection of environmental information in Mexico through the application of computational techniques resulting ontology with environmental knowledge that will be processed by the system EQSS. Among the main advantages is than the selection and structure of information allow the automated generation of results in an environmental statement. The ontology proposal is based on knowledge of EQSS system that is based on the architecture of expert systems and through this important information for decision-making in regard to environmental quality and interaction with Geographic Information System (GIS) is obtained.

Global paleobiogeography of Albian—Cenomanian(mid-Cretaceous)marine ostracods

Despite their potential for providing important information for paleobiogeography,studies using ostracod assemblages compiled from global datasets have been scarce so *** this study,the paleogeographic implications of the relationship between different ostracod assemblages are analyzed and discussed for the Albian and *** compiled an ostracod dataset at the genus level,with 168 genera for the Albian and 174 for the Cenomanian,to which different multivariate statistical methods of grouping were *** affinity between different ostracod assemblages from different regions allowed for the delineation of 30 operational geographic units(OGUs)for the Albian,and 32 OGUs for the Cenomanian,grouped in three paleobiogeographic units(PBUs;Megatethys,Persia,and Austral)and one sub-unit(PBSU;Maghreb associated to the Megatethys).The Maghreb PBSU showed minor changes between the Albian and *** relationship among the OGUs grouped in each PBU is related to different factors,such as eustatic sea level events,similar climatic zones,and marine current circulation patterns.A relationship was observed between the Gabon and Nigeria OGUs with the Persia PBU,which suggests a direct east—west connection between them during the *** affinity observed in the Austral PBU between the South American,South African,and Australian regions during the Albian can be explained by their relative geographic isolation due to the Walvis Ridge *** eventual flooding of this barrier led to the relationship observed between the SE Brazilian and Bolivian regions with the Austral ***,the data also suggested that the separation of the Indian subcontinent from the Austral PBU took place during the Cenomanian.

Nitrate is the primary water-soluble macronutrient essential for plant growth that is converted from excess fish feeds,fish effluents,and degrading biomaterials on the aquaponic pond floor,and when aquacultural malpractices occur,large amounts of it retain in the water system causing increase rate in eutrophication and toxifies fish and aquaculture *** nitrate sensor prototypes still require performing the additional steps of water sample deionization and dilution and were constructed with expensive *** response to the challenge of sensor enhancement and aquaponic water quality monitoring,this study developed sensitive,repeatable,and reproducible screen-printed graphite electrodes on polyvinyl chloride and parchment paper substrates with silver as electrode material and 60:40 graphite powder:nail polish formulated conductive ink for electrical traces,integrated with 9-gene genetic expression model as a function of peak anodic current and electrochemical test time for nitrate concentration prediction that is embedded into low-power Arduino ESP32 for in situ nitrate sensing in aquaponic pond *** SPE electrical traces were designed on the two types of *** electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray confirmed the electrode surface *** cyclic voltammetry using 10 to 100 mg/L KNO3 and water from three-depth regions of the actual pond established the electrochemical test time(10.5 s)and electrode potential(0.135 V)protocol necessary to produce peak current that corresponds to the strength of nitrate ions during *** findings from in situ testing revealed that the proposed sensors have strong linear predictions(R2=0.968 MSE=1.659 for nSPEv and R2=0.966 MSE=4.697 for nSPEp)in the range of 10 to 100 mg/L and best detection limit of 3.15μg/L,which are comparable to other sensors of more complex *** developed three-electrode electrochemical nitrate sensor confirms that it is reliable for bot

The application of a gate voltage to control the superconducting current flowing through a nanoscale superconducting constriction,named as gate-controlled supercurrent(GCS),has raised great interest for fundamental and technological *** gain a deeper understanding of this effect and develop superconducting technologies based on it,the material and physical parameters crucial for the GCS effect must be ***-down fabrication protocols should also be optimized to increase device scalability,although studies suggest that top-down fabricated devices are more resilient to show a ***,we investigate gated superconducting nanobridges made with a top-down fabrication process from thin films of the noncentrosymmetric superconductor niobium rhenium with varying ratios of the constituents(NbRe).Unlike other devices previously reported and made with a top-down approach,our NbRe devices systematically exhibit a GCS effect when they were fabricated from NbRe thin films with small grain size and etched in specific *** observations pave the way for the realization of top-down-made GCS devices with high *** results also imply that physical parameters like structural disorder and surface physical properties of the nanobridges,which can be in turn modified by the fabrication process,are crucial for a GCS observation,providing therefore also important insights into the physics underlying the GCS effect.

Possible Uses for Silymarin in Human Health: Systematic Review

Silymarin, from the fruit of Silybum marianum, is known for its hepatoprotective action. The aim of this study was to review the mechanisms of action of the silymarin phytocomplex to expand the possibilities for its application in human health. The search for published articles was carried out on the CAPES Journals Portal platform, which covers worldwide scientific databases. Publications from 2010 to 2022 were included. Of the 311 articles retrieved, 21 were included. The articles discuss the diversity of silymarin’s applications and the possibility of optimizing its bioavailability using drug delivery systems. Silymarin shows promise in numerous diseases, such as liver, kidney, cardiovascular, respiratory and others. Its antiviral action has been demonstrated in studies and silymarin has the potential to be used as a complementary therapy in the treatment of many diseases, with the expectation that, in the future, it will be used in therapeutic protocols for exclusive use.

Superconvergent Interpolatory HDG Methods for Reaction Difusion Equations II:HHO‑Inspired Methods

In Chen et al.(***.81(3):2188–2212,2019),we considered a superconvergent hybridizable discontinuous Galerkin(HDG)method,defned on simplicial meshes,for scalar reaction-difusion equations and showed how to defne an interpolatory version which maintained its convergence *** interpolatory approach uses a locally postprocessed approximate solution to evaluate the nonlinear term,and assembles all HDG matrices once before the time integration leading to a reduction in computational *** resulting method displays a superconvergent rate for the solution for polynomial degree k≥*** this work,we take advantage of the link found between the HDG and the hybrid high-order(HHO)methods,in Cockburn et al.(ESAIM ***.50(3):635–650,2016)and extend this idea to the new,HHO-inspired HDG methods,defned on meshes made of general polyhedral elements,uncovered *** meshes made of shape-regular polyhedral elements afne-equivalent to a fnite number of reference elements,we prove that the resulting interpolatory HDG methods converge at the same rate as for the linear elliptic ***,we obtain superconvergent methods for k≥0 by some *** thus maintain the superconvergence properties of the original *** present numerical results to illustrate the convergence theory.

Three-dimensional analysis of the gap space under forearm casts

Purpose:Secondary displacement represents a frequent complication of conservative treatment of fractures,particularly of the distal *** gap space between skin and cast may lead to a certain degree movements and this increased mobility might favor *** aim of this study was to develop a new 3D method,to measure the gap space in all 3 geometrical planes,and to validate this new technique in a clinical setting of distal radius ***:This study applies 3D imaging to measure the space between plaster and skin as a potential factor of secondary displacement and therefore the failure of conservative *** developed and validated a new methodology to analyze and compare different forearm casts made of plaster of Paris and *** unpaired t-test was performed to document differences between the investigated parameters between plaster of Paris and fiberglass *** significance level was set at prent casting materials,plaster of Paris and fiberglass,we found a significantly larger variance of space under casts made of the first material(p=0.39).A roughness analysis showed also a markedly significantly higher irregularity of the undersurface of plaster of Paris as compared with ***:This study allows for a better understanding of the nature of the"gap space"between cast and skin and will contribute to develop and improve new immobilization techniques and materials.

Characterization of Rsg2.a3:A new greenbug resistance allele at the Rsg2 locus from wild barley(Hordeum vulgare ***)

Greenbug(Schizaphis graminum Rondani)is a destructive insect pest that not only damages plants,but also serves as a vector for many *** plant resistance is the preferred strategy for managing *** greenbug resistance genes,Rsg1 and Rsg2,have been reported in *** breed cultivars with effective resistance against various greenbug biotypes,additional resistance genes are urgently needed to sustain barley *** barley accession WBDC053(PI 681777)was previously found to be resistant to several greenbug *** this study,a recombinant inbred line(RIL)population derived from Weskan×WBDC053 was evaluated for response to two greenbug biotypes(E and TX1)and genotyped using genotyping by sequencing(GBS).A set of 3347 high quality GBS-derived single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)were then used to map the greenbug resistance gene in this wild barley *** analysis placed the greenbug resistance gene in a 2.35 Mb interval(0-2,354,645 bp)in the terminal region of the short arm of chromosome *** interval harbors 15 genes with leucine-rich-repeat(LRR)protein *** allelism test indicated that the greenbug resistance gene in WBDC053,designated Rsg2.a3,is likely allelic or closely linked to ***-SNPs 2H_1318811and 2H_1839499 co-segregating with Rsg2.a3 in the RIL population were converted to Kompetitive allele specific PCR(KASP)markers KASP-Rsg2.a3-1 and KASP-Rsg2.a3-2,*** two KASP markers can be used to select Rsg2.a3 and have the potential to tag Rsg2 in barley improvement programs.
