Ion dynamics into different pore size distributions in supercapacitors under compression

Compressing supercapacitor(SCs)electrode is essential for improving the energy storage characteristics and minimizing ions’distance travel,faradaic reactions,and overall ohmic resistance.Studies comprising the ion dynamics in SC electrodes under compression are still rare.So,the ionic dynamics of five aqueous electrolytes in electrodes under compression were studied in this work for tracking electrochemical and structural changes under mechanical stress.A superionic state is formed when the electrode is compressed until the micropores match the dimensions with the electrolyte’s hydrated ion sizes,which increases the capacitance.If excessive compression is applied,the accessible pore regions decrease,and the capacitance drops.Hence,as the studied hydrated ions have different dimensions,the match between ion/pore sizes differs.To the LiOH and NaClO4electrolytes,increasing the pressure from 60 to 120 and 100 PSI raised the capacitance from 13.5 to 35.2 f g^(-1)and 30.9 to 39.0 f g^(-1),respectively.So,the KOH electrolyte with the lowest and LiCl with the biggest combination of hydrated ion size have their point of maximum capacitance(39.5 and 36.7f g^(-1))achieved at 140 and 80 PSI,respectively.To LiCl and KCl electrolytes,overcompression causes a drop in capacitance higher than 23%.

The broke of a tailings dam from Vale S.A. destroyed a gigantic area killing 270 persons in Brumadinho/Brazil. Organizing activities after a mass disaster is a complex process that requires the involvement of many people and resources in the laboratory. To DNA identification of the victims, a daunting work had to be made by DNA laboratory staff in a collaborative effort with many partners. Efforts to implement good practice guidelines in Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) have revealed several important aspects that need to change in the forensic DNA laboratory. This article highlights the challenges of implementing DVI best practice guidelines in resource-poor settings, but with professionals from different sectors engaged in the same goal of briefly identifying victims and helping families and society.

This research assessed the relationship between wood physical-anatomical variables and charcoal physical-mechanical properties.Nine trees were harvested and mechanically processed into standard pieces for laboratory analysis.The following variables were determined:wood density,fiber length and width,fiber lumen diameter and wall thickness,fiber wall fraction,and vessel frequency.The charcoal was produced in a laboratory and gravimetric yield,relative density,and mechanical properties established.Pearson’s correlation coefficients,multivariate statistical analysis of canonical correlation,and principal component analysis were used to evaluate the relationship between wood and charcoal properties.fiber width was not significantly correlated with charcoal properties.Charcoal bulk density,hardness,and strength were positively correlated with wood density,fiber length,wall thickness,and wall fraction.Charcoal properties were negatively correlated with fiber lumen diameter and vessel frequency.These results will help identify the best wood with adequate physical-mechanical properties for industrial charcoal proces sing.

Mechanical properties of a clay soil reinforced with rice husk under drained and undrained conditions

fiber-reinforced soils have been increasingly used in geotechnical engineering.Over the years,research has sought to understand and investigate the influences of fibers as reinforcement in soilefiber mixtures.This study assessed the behavior of clayey soil in the city of Curitiba(Paraná,Brazil),adding rice husk fiber(RHf),an industrial waste from Cooperativa Agroindustrial in Alegrete(Rio Grande do Sul,Brazil).To evaluate the effect of the presence of natural RHf on the mechanical behavior of compacted soil,aspects such as the influence of fiber content and the drained and undrained behaviors of the soil were evaluated through unconfined triaxial compression tests.The following tests were realized:soil granulometry,specific mass of solids and Atterberg limits.Specimens were produced in quadruplicate for the soil and mixtures using the RHf contents of 0.5%,0.75%,1%and 1.5%to determine the unconfined compressive strength(UCS).Triaxial tests were realized on a pure soil specimen and the specimens with 1%RHf under confining pressures of 50 kPa,100 kPa,200 kPa and 400 kPa.The interactions at the interface between husk surface and soil were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy(SEM).In UCS tests,specimens with RHf percentages of 1%and 1.5%presented the highest results,with an increment of 36%compared to the soil without RHf.The results of the consolidated drained triaxial compression tests show that in terms of effective stress,there was a small difference in the strength of the compacted pure soil and soil with the addition of RHf.for the undrained tests,the strength increased with the inclusion of husk,with a reduction of 50%in cohesion and an increment of 22%in friction angle for specimens containing RHf compared to the soil without RHf additions.

Effects of.temporal variability on HBV model calibration

This study aimed to investigate the effects of.temporal variability on the optimization of the Hydrologiska ByrS.ns Vattenbalansavedlning （HBV） model, as well as the calibration performance using manual optimization and average parameter values. By applying the HBV model to the Jiangwan Catchment, whose geological features include lots of cracks and gaps, simulations under various schemes were developed： short, medium-length, and long temporal calibrations. The results show that, with long temporal calibration, the objective function values of the Nash- Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient （NSE）, relative error （RE）, root mean square error （RMSE）, and high flow ratio generally deliver a preferable simulation. Although NSE and RMSE are relatively stable with different temporal scales, significant improvements to RE and the high flow ratio are seen with longer temporal calibration. It is also noted that use of average parameter values does not lead to better simulation results compared with manual optimization. With medium-length temporal calibration, manual optimization delivers the best simulation results, with NSE, RE, RMSE, and the high flow ratio being 0.563 6, 0.122 3, 0.978 8, and 0.854 7, respectively; and calibration using average parameter values delivers NSE, RE, RMSE, and the high flow ratio of 0.481 1, 0.467 6, 1.021 0, and 2.784 0, respectively. Similar behavior is found with long temporal calibration, when NSE, RE, RMSE, and the high flow ratio using manual optimization are 0.525 3, -0.069 2, 1.058 0, and 0.980 0, respectively, as compared with 0.490 3, 0.224 8, 1.096 2, and 0.547 9, respectively, using average parameter values. This study shows that selection of longer periods of.temooral calibration in hvdrolouical analysis delivers better simulation in general for water balance analysis.

Online Learning Control for Harmonics Reduction Based on Current Controlled Voltage Source Power Inverters

Nonlinear loads in the power distribution system cause non-sinusoidal currents and voltages with harmonic components.Shunt active filters(SAf) with current controlled voltage source inverters(CCVSI) are usually used to obtain balanced and sinusoidal source currents by injecting compensation currents.However,CCVSI with traditional controllers have a limited transient and steady state performance.In this paper,we propose an adaptive dynamic programming(ADP) controller with online learning capability to improve transient response and harmonics.The proposed controller works alongside existing proportional integral(PI) controllers to efficiently track the reference currents in the d-q domain.It can generate adaptive control actions to compensate the PI controller.The proposed system was simulated under different nonlinear(three-phase full wave rectifier) load conditions.The performance of the proposed approach was compared with the traditional approach.We have also included the simulation results without connecting the traditional PI control based power inverter for reference comparison.The online learning based ADP controller not only reduced average total harmonic distortion by 18.41%,but also outperformed traditional PI controllers during transients.

Analgesic-like activity of perillyl acetate:In vivo and in silico studies

Objective:To evaluate the antinociceptive activity of perillyl acetate in mice and in silico simulations.Methods:The vehicle,perillyl acetate(100,150 and/or 200 mg/kg,i.p.),diazepam(2 mg/kg,i.p.)or morphine(6 mg/kg,i.p.)was administered to mice,respectively.Rotarod test,acetic acidinduced abdominal writhing,formalin-induced nociception,hot plate test,and tail-flick test were performed.Opioid receptorsinvolvement in perillyl acetate antinociceptive effect was also investigated.Results:Perillyl acetate did not affect the motor coordination of mice.However,it reduced the number of acetic acid-induced abdominal twitches and licking times in the formalin test.There was an increase of latency time in the tail-flick test of 30 and 60minutes.Pretreatment with naloxone reversed the antinociceptive effect of perillyl acetate(200 mg/kg).In silico analysis demonstrated that perillyl acetate could bind toμ-opioid receptors.Conclusions:Perillyl acetate has antinociceptive effect at the spinal level in animal nociception models,without affecting the locomotor integrity and possibly throughμ-opioid receptors.In silico studies have suggested that perillyl acetate can act as aμ-opioid receptor agonist.

Stable two-sided matching of slot allocation in airport collaborative decision making by top trading cycles mechanism

The problem of capacity shortage in some airports needs to be dealt with sustainable solutions including a more efficient use of the existing runway slots at the airports. The Collaborative Decision Making（CDM） is an important approach applied to Air Traffic Management（ATM）to achieve this efficient use of the slots allocation. Using the Matching approach for two-sided markets of Game theory, the Top Trading Cycle CDM（TTC-CDM） algorithm developed in this research is an extension of the CDM approach aggregating the Ground Delay Program（GDP）of the air sector. The paper compared the developed TTC-CDM model to the existing models such as the conventional Compression algorithm in CDM, the Trade Cycle algorithm and the Deferred Acceptance CDM（DA-CDM） model to evaluate the performance of the proposed model. Through a case study, the results show the effective application of TTC-CDM model to slot allocation in ATM and also presents the advantage of considering the preferences of airport managers beside ATC controllers and airlines in the decision processing.

forecasting the New Trends about the Consumer Behavior in the Cruise Industry Post COVID-19

This paper presented the new sanitary and health protocols implemented by cruise companies in order to internationally resuming the industry. The perception of Brazilians regarding these new protocols was identified through a quantitative survey with a sample of 412 Brazilian respondents, carried out between May and June 2021. As main results, sanitary and health protocols that do not affect their experiences on board were identified, as well as those protocols that compromised the experience perceived by the future traveler. The respondents’ propensity to travel on cruise ships and their perceptions about the influence of the ship size, the number of ports of call, nationalities on board, the number of guests, among other aspects, were also analyzed. finally, in the final section of this paper, we presented an estimation of the expected number of cruisers for the 21/22 cruising season in Brazil, based on a kind Bayesian argument, considering different scenarios for the forthcoming season.
