Syndromic craniosynostosis associated with microdeletion of chromosome 19p13.12-19p13.2

Craniosynostosis,a condition in which the cranial sutures prematurely fuse,can lead to elevated intracranial pressure and craniofacial abnormalities in young *** surgical intervention is the only therapeutic option for patients with this *** has been associated with a variety of different gene mutations and chromosome *** we describe three cases of partial deletion of chromosome *** of the cases present with syndromic craniosynostosis while one has metopic ridging.A review of the genes involved in the rearrangements between the three cases suggests several gene candidates for *** and DAND5,BmP regulators involved in osteoblast differentiation,and mORG1,a mediator of osteoclast dysregulation may play a role in abnormal cranial vault ***,CACNA1A,a gene that when mutated is associated with epilepsy and CC2D1A,a gene associated with non-syndromic mental retardation may contribute to additional phenotypic features seen in the patients we *** addition,these findings further support the need for genetic testing in cases of syndromic craniosynostosis.

Bone morphogenetic protein-9 effectively induces osteogenic differentiation of reversibly immortalized calvarial mesenchymal progenitor cells

Critical-sized craniofacial defect repair represents a significant challenge to reconstructive *** strategies have been employed in an effort to achieve both a functionally and cosmetically acceptable *** morphogenetic proteins(BmPs)provide a robust osteoinductive cue to stimulate bony growth and *** studies have suggested that the BmP-9 isoform is particularly effective in promoting osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal progenitor *** aim of this study is to characterize the osteogenic capacity of BmP-9 on calvarial mesenchymal progenitor cell *** immortalized murine calvarial progenitor cells(iCALs)were infected with adenoviral vectors encoding BmP-9 or GFP and assessed for early and late stages of osteogenic differentiation in vitro and for osteogenic differentiation via in vivo stem cell implantation *** elevations in alkaline phosphatase(ALP)activity,osteocalcin(OCN)mRNA transcription,osteopontin(OPN)protein expression,and matrix mineralization were detected in BmP-treated cells compared to ***,ALP activity was elevated on days 3,7,9,11,and 13 post-infection and OCN mRNA expression was elevated on days 8,10,and 14 in treated ***,treatment groups demonstrated increased OPN protein expression on day 10 and matrix mineralization on day 14 post-infection relative to control ***-9 also facilitated the formation of new bone in vivo as detailed by gross,microcomputed tomography,and histological ***,we concluded that BmP-9 significantly stimulates osteogenic differentiation in iCALs,and should be considered an effective agent for calvarial tissue regeneration.

The role of landscape setting in minimizing hydrogeomorphic impacts of flow regulation

The Tongariro Power Development Scheme（TPDS） is used to regulate flow in the headwaters of the largest catchment on the North island of New Zealand（the Waikato）.Two small dams,the Rangipo Dam and the Poutu intake Dam,were constructed in 1973 and *** flow regime of the river is managed to divert freshes into the power scheme,but allows flows larger than 100 m;s;to be released,to rework and transport sediment through the catchment. Analysis of aerial photos and maps spanning 1928 to 2007,alongside field measurements,show that there have been few hydrogeomorphic adjustments since dam *** includes limited changes to channel geometry,channel planform and bed material organization immediately downstream of the *** addition,offsite effects are minimal, both 500 m downstream of each dam,and in the more sensitive,less confined reaches in the lower catchment（11 km downstream of the Poutu intake dam）.The limited changes can be attributed to the locations of the dams within reaches characterised by bedrock gorges and confined within *** locations act to flush sediments and impose margins that allow minimal adjustment of the *** material within this reach is characterised by the presence of a boulder *** is sourced from long-term incision into lahar deposits,and acts to limit the rate of incision, creating a steep and stable base upon which active fractions are *** as importantly,significant storage in the low-relief volcanic plateau located in the upper catchment acts to disconnect and store the high sediment yields generated by active volcanic cones in the western sub-catchment upstream of the *** limits the rate of sediment supply to regulated *** from this study show that analysis of reach-scale controls is essential in framing dam site locations in relation to the distribution of reaches and landscape units across the *** this instance, tributary inputs downstream of the dams do not repl

Application of Numerical modelling to Optimise Design of a Coastguard Harbour

As part of the design process of the Sidab Coastguard harbour in Oman, 2-dimensional wave transformation modelling was carried out to generate inshore wave conditions （outside the harbour） using the miKE21 Spectral Wave （SW） model of DHi （Danish Hydraulic institute）. The miKE21 Boussinesq Wave （BW） model was then used to simulate the wave penetration so that acceptable wave conditions were achieved inside the harbour. Tide levels and currents （speeds and directions） inside and outside the harbour were simulated using the miKE21 Hydrodynamic （HD） model. Finally, the miKE21 model was used to simulate the flushing mechanism to ensure good water quality inside the harbour. Both the existing and proposed harbour layouts were modelled for operational and extreme conditions. The influence of cyclones on the design was also considered. An acceptable harbour layout was determined which provided good shelter from waves and with an exchange rate of water between the harbour and the sea which was high enough to prevent eutrophication and to allow removal of man-made pollutants such as accidental oil spills. The paper compares the findings of the present study with a range of internationally used guidelines on harbour flushing. Finally, the paper demonstrates the value of using numerical modelling technique in optimising the layout of a new harbour.

Retrospective Assessment of Changes in Perceived Health Status during Continuous Use of a Dietary Supplement

Dietary factors play an important role in human health. Specifically, nutritional interventions may have an impact on the hypothalamic-pituitary axis resulting in positive health outcomes. A retrospective health status survey of 386 respondents was conducted to investigate the potential of a dietary supplement, NutrifiiTm Renew, for improving various health outcomes in comparison to a multivitamin/mineral control group. Among those who ingested Renew, 95% reported experiencing at least some improvement in one or more health categories. Compared to the multivitamin/mineral group, the Renew group reported earlier and/or greater improvements in several health status categories including sleep, reproductive health, memory, energy/stamina, skin and hair quality, flexibility, exercise recovery and feeling rested in the morning. A clear majority (84.9%) of Renew consumers reported experiencing noticeable improvement in some aspect of their health within one month. Among those who felt an improvement in sleep, most reported experiencing a change within one week. These improvements were likely due to the synergistic effects of L-arginine, L-citrulline, L-lysine, and botanical extracts on nitric oxide production, growth hormone (GH) release, and sleep quality. The observed improvements in skin elasticity and hair growth may be related to increased GH levels and iGF-1 production. Overall, these findings suggest that Renew may have potential as a dietary intervention for improving various health outcomes beyond those provided by multivitamin/mineral supplementation alone. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings and elucidate the underlying mechanisms of action.

Whether radar meteor echoes occur at high altitudes(above 30 km) in the Earth’s atmosphere is a long-standing question within the meteor radar *** observations from the Sanya VHF coherent radar interferometer during 11 July to 10 August 2013,we have found a new class of range-spread high-altitude meteor trail echoes(HAiVlEs),some of which appeared at70 km altitude lasting more than10 s.A statistical analysis on the local time dependence of the identified HAmE events shows a maximum around 00-04 *** results imply that there could be much more meteor mass input due to meteoroid sputtering at high altitudes in the Earth’s atmosphere than previously thought.

Compositionally Driven Viscometric Behaviors of Poly (Alkyl methacrylates) in Lubricating Oils

Viscosity index (Vi) and shear stability index (SSi) are standard methods used in the lubricant industry to determine temperature-viscosity dependency and resistance to product degradation, respectively. A variety of oil-soluble polymers, including poly(alkyl methacrylates) (PAmAs) are routinely used to control these properties in fully-formulated liquid lubricants. in this report, we use reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization to precisely target identical degrees of polymerization in a family of PAmAs with varying lauryl, hexyl, butyl, ethyl, and methyl groups. Then, expanding on previous methodology reported in the literature, we establish structure property relationships for these PAmAs, specifically looking at how intrinsic viscosity [η] and martin interaction parameters Km relate to Vi and SSi characteristics. While the intrinsic viscosity [η] is associated with the volume of macromolecules at infinite dilution, the parameter Km reflects the hydrodynamic interactions of polymer chains at actual polymer concentrations in lubricating oils. in this paper, we show that the dependence of Vi on the non-dimensional concentration c/c* (or c[η]) can be presented in a form of master curve with shift factors proportional to Km that decreases with increasing size of alkyl groups. This finding implies that even in the dilute regime, the coil-expansion theory used to explain the effect of macromolecules on Vi should be complemented with the idea of hydrodynamic interactions between polymer molecules that can be controlled by the choice of alkyl chains in the family of PAmAs.
