background: Interventions have recently been developed to test the therapeutic value of storytelling for people with cancer. This evidence includes different designs, as a result an integrative review is needed that can determine the impact and value of storytelling interventions for people with cancer. Aims: To undertake an integrative review of evidence identifying the impact and outcomes from storytelling interventions for people with cancer. Methods: An integrative review of group based storytelling interventions using a qualitative led-synthesis. Results: Eleven studies were identified with a total of 493 (49 female, 16 male, 428 not disclosed) people included. Two major themes were identified: 1) content of interaction and 2) outcomes from the interventions. Six sub-themes were identified. The results provided a unique insight into the psycho-emotional impact of storytelling interventions. Conclusions: It is essential that health care professionals understand the core benefits of storytelling for people with cancer. Further interventions are needed to identify an approach which could be applied within clinical settings.

New Methods to Quantify Canopy Structure of leafless boreal birch Forest from Hemispherical Photographs

Hemispherical photography has been used for many years to measure the physical characteristics of forests, but most related image processing work has focused on leafy canopies or conifers. The boreal forest contains large areas of deciduous trees that remain leafless for over half the year, influencing surface albedo and snow dynamics. Hemispherical photographs of these sparse, twiggy canopies are difficult to acquire and analyze due to bright bark and reflections from snow. This Note presents new methods for producing binary images from hemispherical photographs of a leafless boreal birch forest. Firstly, a thresholding method based on differences between colour panes provides a quick way to remove bright sunlit patches on vegetation. Secondly, an algorithm for joining up fragmented pieces of tree after thresholding ensures a continuous canopy. These methods reduce the estimated hemispherical sky view fraction by up to 6% and 3%, respectively. Although the processing remains subjective to some degree, these tools help to standardize analysis and allow the use of some photographs that might have previously been considered unsuitable for scientific purposes.

Injuries to peripheral nerves are common and cause life-changing problems for patients alongside high social and health care costs for society. Current clinical treatment of peripheral nerve injuries predominantly relies on sacrificing a section of nerve from elsewhere in the body to provide a graft at the injury site. Much work has been done to develop a bioengineered nerve graft, precluding sacrifice of a functional nerve. Stem cells are prime candidates as accelerators of regeneration in these nerve grafts. This review examines the potential of adipose-derived stem cells to improve nerve repair assisted by bioengineered nerve grafts.

A classical function of Clq is to bind immune complexes and initiate complement activation producing membrane lytic complexes, opsonins and anaphylatoxins. This classical pathway of complement activation is also elicited when Clq binds some other ligands. besides complement activation, Clq also regulates cell differentiation, adhesion, migration, activation and survival. Clq deficiency is associated with autoimmunity as well as increased susceptib.lity to infections. Evaluation of Extracts of Native and Non-Native Plant Species for the Suppression of Cogongrass （Imperata cylindrica l.）

Effects of the extracts of muhly grass （Muhlenbergia capillaries lam.）, chenopodium （Chenopodium ambrosioides l.） and black walnut （Juglans nigra l.） on the growth of cogongrass （Imperata cylindrica l.） were studied. None purified extracts from these plant species were used to evaluate survival, shoot and root growth of cogongrass. Results of plant species extracts on the production of roots, shoot and rhizomes of cogongrass genets and ramets were determined on a weekly basis. The extracts significantly reduced the growth and survival of cogongrass when compared to the control. Results indicated that for the in vivo studies, chenopodium extracts, black walnut and muhly grass extracts reduced growth, root and shoot biomass of cogongrass by 50 %, 30 % and 41% respectively, compared to control at 8 weeks after planting. These studies indicated plant species with potential for the biological control of cogongrass, an invasive species in the Gulf Coast States.

In 2008,the IUCN threat status of the Asian tapir(Tapirus indicus)was reclasified from‘vulnerable'to‘en-dangered'.The latest distribution map from the IUCN Red list suggests that the tapirs'native range is becom-ing increasingly fragmented in Peninsular Malaysia,but distribution data collected by local researchers sug-gest a more extensive geographical ***,we compile a database of 1261 tapir occurrence records within Peninsular Malaysia,and demonstrate that this species,indeed,has a much broader geographical range than the IUCN range map ***,extreme spatial and temporal bias in these records limits their utility for conservation ***,we used maximum entropy(MaxEnt)modeling to elucidate the potential ex-tent of the Asian tapir's occurrence in Peninsular Malaysia while accounting for bias in existing distribution *** MaxEnt model predicted that the Asian tapir has a wider geographic range than our fine-scale data and the IUCN range map both *** 37%of Peninsular Malaysia contains potentially suit-able tapir *** results justify a revision to the Asian tapir's extent of occurrence in the IUCN Red ***,our modeling demonstrated that selectively logged forests encompass 45%of potentially suitable tapir habitats,underscoring the importance of these habitats for the conservation of this species in Peninsular Malaysia.
