Histopathological,histochemical and biochemical postmortem changes in induced fatal hypothermia in rats

Reaching a postmortem diagnosis of hypothermia is challenging in forensic practice.Therefore,this study was conducted to detect the histopathological,histochemical and biochemical changes that occur in adult albino rats following exposure to induced fatal hypothermia.Twenty-four adult albino rats were divided into the negative control,moderate hypothermia,severe hypothermia and hypoxia groups.Rats in the control group were euthanized when those in the moderate hypothermic group died.Blood samples were collected via heart puncture,and the cerebrum,heart,suprarenal gland,kidney,liver and skeletal muscle were removed to investigate the biochemical,histochemical and histopathological changes.Postmortem assessment depicted significant changes in lipid peroxidation,represented by increased malondialdehyde levels in the studied organs of the rats in hypothermic and hypoxia groups.Histopathological examination of the rats’organs revealed degeneration and necrosis in the hypothermia and hypoxia groups.Sections taken from the severe hypothermic rats revealed a loss of normal cardiac tissue architecture,necrotic changes in the pyramidal cells in the cerebral cortex,and massive necrosis,mainly in the tubules of the renal cortex and medulla.These findings suggest that histological changes might be used as biochemical markers for postmortem diagnosing of fatal hypothermia,particularly in severe hypothermic conditions.

Utilization of Chickpea Split (Cicer arietinum L.) in Preparing Some Gluten-Free Casein-Free Food Products for Autism Children

This study aimed to prepare and evaluate some gluten-free and casein-free (GFCF) food products for autism children from rice and chickpea split. Like-milk beverages and snacks (bakery) were prepared by replacing rice with chickpea at a ratio of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, and in a ratio of 25% and 50% with fried snacks. Chemical composition, antioxidant activity, the energy content of ingredients and final products, as well as the viscosity, texture profile analysis, and sensory evaluation of final products, were determined. The results showed that chickpea contains higher values of protein, fat, fiber, and ash compared with rice. Also, the antioxidant activity (total phenolic (TP), DPPH scavenging activity, and FRAP value) of chickpea was higher than rice. The addition of chickpea to rice caused a significant increase in protein (%), fat (%), minerals (Ca, Fe, K, Zn, and Mg) (%), and antioxidant activity of all products, and these values were increased with the increased of chickpea amount added, while the viscosity of rice-chickpea milk samples and the hardness of snacks (fried and bakery) were significantly decreased with the increase of chickpea amount added. According to the recommended daily allowances (RDA), it was found that 100 mL of chickpea milk (100%) could provide autism children with 99.5%, 32%, and 36% of the daily required iron, Ca, and Zn, respectively. Also, the daily intake of 100 g of snacks (sample BS5) could provide autism children with 75%, 7%, 42%, 125%, 1.7%, and 52% of the daily required of protein, fiber, Ca, iron, Mg, and Zn, respectively. On the other hand, 100 g fried snacks (sample FS3) could provide autism children with 59.9%, 42%, and 64% of the daily required protein, calcium, and iron, respectively. The best sensory evaluation scores were obtained with rice milk (100%), bakery snacks sample BS4 (25% rice: 75% chickpea), and fried snacks sample FS2 (75% rice: 25% chickpea).

Case-based surveillance measles data was defined according to World Health Organization （WHO） guidelines. A total of 511 measles cases were studied from 2011 to 2015 in Southern Darfur State, Sudan and 58.1% of cases were confirmed from Nyala city. About 43.4% of cases were males, 56.6% of cases were female, and 47.7% were children under five years old. Similarity, within February to June, the cases increased by 8.0% in children vaccinated through measles campaign, and 5.3% in children that used child vaccination card and 78.7% in unvaccinated one.

Background:The increasing occurrence of diabetes mellitus(DM)noted worldwide has considerably elicited concern in the recent past.DM is associated with elevated vascular complications,morbidity,mortality,and poor quality of life.In this context,mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)have shown significant therapeutic potentialities in managing and curing type 1 DM owing to their self-renewable,immunosuppressive,and differentiation capacities.We investigated the potential action of N,N′-diphenyl-1,4-phenylenediamine(DPPD),a well-known synthetic antioxidant to enhance the therapeutic ability of the adipose-derived stem cells(AD-MSCs)in alleviating kidney and liver complications in diabetic rats.Methods:Over the four weeks of experiments,albino male rats(n=36)were split into six test groups:control,DPPD(250 mg/kg,i.p.),STZ-diabetic(D),D+DPPD,D+AD-MSCs(1×10^(6)cell/rat,i.v.),and D+AD-MSCs+DPPD treated groups.Results:Significant declines in the renal and hepatic oxidative stress markers(MDA,ROS,and AGEs)were observed coupled with a significant elevation in many antioxidant marker levels(GSH,SOD,CAT,GPx,HO-1,and TAC)in the diabetic rats treated with either DPPD or AD-MSCs or their co-administered injection compared to the diabetic untreated rats.This was suggested to be the leading cause of amelioration of the kidney functions(as measured by urea,uric acid,and creatine levels)and liver functions(as evidenced by the levels of AST,ALT,ALP,bilirubin,total proteins,albumin,and globulins).Conclusion:DPPD and AD-MSCs co-administration showed superior results in terms of the enhancement of the relative hepato-renal function,indicating the beneficial role of DPPD supplementation in increasing the therapeutic potential of AD-MSCs.

Utilization of Carob (<i>Ceratonia siliqua</i>L.) Extract as Functional Ingredient in Some Confectionery Products

The aim of this study was to investigate the physicochemical and antioxidant activity of carob pod powder and its use in preparing of functional drinks, and some confectionery products. The raw and heated (at 110°C and 130°C/20 min) carob powder was used in preparing of drinks. The concentrate carob drink was used in preparing of some confectionery products. The drying process significantly decreased the moisture and total sugars values in carob powder. The antioxidant activity (was measured by two different assays, which are DPPH radical scavenging activity and FRAP) of heated carob powder drinks was lower than the raw carob powder drink, while total phenolic not affected. The best sensory acceptability was observed with raw carob powder drink at ratio 1:2 (carob powder: water). The concentration process caused significant increase in total phenolic and antioxidant activity of carob drink. The influence of rolling bearing clearances on diagnostic signatures based on a numerical simulation and experimental evaluation

This paper presents investigations into the influences of bearing clearances on the diagnostic features of monitoring rolling-bearings. A nonlinear dynamic model of a deep groove ball bearing with five degrees of freedom is developed for numerical analysis under increased radial clearances which are due to not only the scenarios of bearing grades but also gradual wear with bearing service lifetime. The model incorporates local defects and clearance increments in order to gain the insight into the bearing dynamics under different fault cases along with clearance changes. Numerical results show that the vibrations at fault characteristic frequencies exhibit clear inconsistency with common understandings for different cases of increased clearances. This study highlights that it has to take into account the clearance effect, especially for the inner race fault, in order to avoid the under-estimate of fault sizes which may be indicated by the feature amplitude reduction.

Atypical Presentation of Prostatic Cancer with Left Axillary and Supraclavicular Lymphadenopathy

Introduction: The burden of prostatic cancer is rising in Sudan. Usually, they present late in their disease with urinary tract obstruction, hematuria, bony pain, or cachexia because there is no screening program. Here we present a patient with prostatic cancer who presented with left axillary mass as his main concern. Case Description: 82-year-old Sudanese male presented with a left axillary and left supraclavicular lymphadenopathy of a few months’ duration. He underwent a decisional biopsy which showed metastatic adenocarcinoma. Upper and lower GI endoscopy were performed but the latter was complicated by a sigmoid perforation with peritonitis. During laparatomy, multiple enlarged pelvic lymphnodes were encountered and a biopsy result suggested a metastatic prostatic neoplasm. Later, prostatic biopsy confirmed the diagnosis. The patient was treated with bilateral orchidectomy. Clinical discussion: Lymphatic metastasis to axillary lymph nodes is a very rare manifestation of prostate cancer and only a few cases have been reported in the literature. It can cause diagnostic difficulty since prostate cancer typically metastasis to the pelvic lymph node and very rarely involves he supradiaphragmatic lymph node. Conclusion: Metastatic prostatic carcinoma should be considered among the causes of supra-diaphragmatic lymph adenopathy. Careful physical and imaging examinations combined with PSA and pathological analysis are essential in the diagnosis of advanced prostate cancer with unusual presentation.

The Reaction of 2-Amino-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrobenzo[<i>b</i>]thiophenes with Benzoyl-Isothiocyanate: Synthesis of Annulated Thiophene Derivatives and Their Antitumor Evaluations

The reaction of the tetrahydrobenzo[b]thiophene derivatives 1a,b with benzoylisothiocyanate (2) afforded the thiourea derivatives 3a,b. Cyclization of the latter products gave the annulated products 4a,b. Compounds 3a,b reacted with either hydrazine hydrate (5a) or phenyl hydrazine (5b) afforded compounds 7a-d which underwent cyclization for compounds 7a,c afforded compound 9. On the other hand compounds 4a,b reacted with either hydrazine hydrate (5a) or phenyl hydrazine (5b) afforded compounds 6a-d a second pathway was applied to synthesize compound 6c which underwent cyclization afforded compound 9. Also compounds 4a,b reacted with either phenacyl bromide (10) afforded compounds 11a,b or ethylchloroacetae (12) compounds 13a,b were produced. The latter products reacted with each hydrazine hydrate (5a) and phenyl hydrazine (5b) afforded compounds 14a-d. Their antitumor activities were tested using three different cell lines.

Potent Anticonvulsant 1H-Imidazol-5(4H)-One Derivatives with Low Neurotoxicity

We report here the synthesis and in vivo anticonvulsant/neurotoxicity activities of a series of compounds belonging to 2-aryl-4-arylidene-1-phenyl-1H-imidazol-5(4H)-one. The scaffold is based on the commonality of 5-membered lactam ring structures as successful anticonvulsant agents. The present compounds exhibited a range of anticonvulsant activity in pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)-induced seizure test. In particular, the protection was excellent by compounds bearing furylmethylidene on C4, possibly due to good pharmacokinetic properties. It was found that high lipophilicity and/or electron deficient aryl ring substitution at C4 compromised the anticonvulsant activities. For example, chloro analogues were found much less active than unsubstituted phenyl or furyl derivatives. Regarding side effects, active compounds exerted no observable neurotoxic effect at their therapeutic doses in Chimney test.
