The management of information systems contributes to the economic development of the construction sector by organizing and structuring technical and economic information. It is proposed how BIM (Building Information Modelling) and a Portuguese information system-ProNIC (abbreviation for Protocol for the Standardization of Construction Technical Information) may be interconnected. The scope of this information transmission in construction sector is a step to solve several problems that have been identified in conception of BIM models.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a process involving generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places, which can be exchanged or networked to support decision-making in architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) sector. BIM is a relatively new technology in an industry typically slow to adopt changes, especially in Portugal. The present paper aims to frame the international implementation of BIM in order to propose a roadmap to spread the use of BIM methodologies in Portugal in the next decade.

Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is the main cause of inherited mental retardation and is the result of transcriptional silencing of the fragile X mental retardation gene FMR1. An absence of the associated protein FMRP leads to the deregulation of many genes, which results in phenotypes of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), anxiety, epilepsy and autism. The aim of this article is to report the clinical case of twin siblings affected by FXS and to describe the procedures for dental treatment with intravenous sedation. Information regarding the characteristic manifestations of FXS not only aided in the handling of the patients but also enabled us to develop clinical programs to promote and maintain oral health using individualized and specific dental procedures.

Validation of a HPLC Method for Determination of Glutamine in Food Additives Using Post-Column Derivatization

An ion-exchange chromatography (IEC) followed by post-column derivatization method was validated for the determination of glutamine in food additive products. The chromatographic method was carried out on a sodium cation-exchange column and using detection at 570 nm. The mobile phase consisted of sodium eluant, pH 3.15, with 5% sulfolane, sodium eluant, pH 7.40 and sodium column regenerant. The method was linear in the range of 4 - 50 μg/mL (r2 = 0.9999). The accuracy was 99.78%. Moreover, method validation demonstrated acceptable results for precision and robustness. The method was found to be able to use for routine analysis of the glutamine.

BACKGROUND Toll-like receptor-2(TLR2) is responsible for recognizing Helicobacter pylori(***) and activating the immune response. Polymorphisms in TLR2 may modulate gastric *** To evaluate whether the TLR2 19216 T/C(rs3804099) and TLR2-196 to-174 ins/del(rs111200466) polymorphisms contribute to gastric carcinogenesis in the Brazilian population, and to determine the influence of both polymorphisms and H. pylori infection on TLR2 mRNA *** DNA was extracted from 854 peripheral blood leukocyte or gastric tissue samples[202 gastric cancer(GC), 269 chronic gastritis(CG), and 383 control/healthy(C)]and genotyped by allele-specific PCR or restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP)-PCR. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction by Taq Man■ assay was used to quantify TLR2 mRNA levels in fresh gastric tissues(48 GC, 36 CG, and 14 C).RESULTS Regarding the TLR2-196 to -174 polymorphism, the ins/del and del/del genotypes were associated with a higher risk of GC by comparison with the C in all of the analyzed inheritance models(codominant, dominant, recessive, overdominant and log-additive;P < 0.0001). Similarly, an increased risk was observed when comparing the GC and CG groups [codominant(P < 0.0001), dominant(P <0.0001), recessive(P = 0.0260), overdominant(P < 0.0001) and log-additive(P <0.0001)]. In contrast, TLR2 19216 T/C was associated with a protective effect in the GC group compared to the C group [dominant(P = 0.0420) and log-additive(P =0.0300)]. Regarding the association of polymorphisms with H. pylori infection,individuals infected with H. pylori and harboring the TLR2-196 to-174 ins/del polymorphism had an increased risk of gastric carcinogenesis [codominant(P =0.0120), dominant(P = 0.0051), overdominant(P = 0.0240) and log-additive(P =0.0030)], while TLR2 19216 T/C was associated with a protective effect[codominant(P = 0.0039), dominant(P < 0.0001), overdominant(P = 0.0097) and log-additive(P = 0.0021)]. Prosthechea is a neotropical genus, belonging to the family Orchidaceae. The Brazil recorded 32 species of the genus of which nine occur in the state of Bahia, including P. silvana and P. moojenii. The first, P. silvana is epiphytic, endemic Atlantic Forest areas of South and Southeast of the Bahia and morphologically similar to P. moojenii, rupicolous species considered endemic to the Chapada Diamantina. There are doubts whether these two species are really distinct, because they differ only as to the way of life and aspects related to the size of the inflorescence and floral structure. Thus the anatomical study of these two species, emerges as a tool that aims to investigate the delimitation of these taxa. For this study, the sheet was cut freehand with a razor blade to obtain cross sections and treated by chemical means to obtain paradermic sections, all the material was stained with safranine/Astra blue (safrablau) and safranin, respectively, and the sections were then mounted between a semipermanent and cover slipped slides. The results allowed to distinguish P. silvana of the P. moojenii through the following characteristics observed in the leaf (thickening of the cell walls of epidermal cells, amount and disposition of sclerenchyma fibers and fiber arrangement of vascular and vascular bundles in the mesophyll) and root (number of arcs of xylem and phloem, thickening of cells median cortex), infers taxonomic characters for the genus. The data indicated anatomical distinction between the two species studied here of the Prosthechea, however, suggest the anatomical analysis of other organs to reproductive and vegetative.

Objective: To investigate the antiinflammatory effects of a single administration of fish oil(FO) on the acute inflammatory response. Methods: The paw edema and pleurisy models were used to evaluate the effects of FO dissolved in olive oil(FOP) orally administered in a single dose in rats. Nitric oxide(NO) concentrations in the pleural exudate were performed according to the Griess method and the cytokine concentrations were determined by Luminex bead-based multiplex assay. Results: FOP treatment(30 and 300 mg/kg) significantly reduced paw edema. FOP treatment at 18.75, 37.5, 75.0, 150.0, and 300 mg/kg decreased both the volume of pleural exudate and cellular migration into the pleural cavity and each of these doses presented the same effectiveness. Treatment with FOP(300 mg/kg) reduced NO, TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 concentrations in the pleural exudate. Conclusions: The present data provide evidence that FO has inhibitory effects on the acute inflammatory response when administered in a single dose in rats. This effect might be attributable to a direct inhibitory effect of FO on the production or release of inflammatory mediators that are involved in the pathological processes evaluated herein.

Horizontally root fractured teeth with pulpal vitality——two case reports

This case study reports the successful outcome of horizontal root fractures of two different patients, which took place in permanent incisors. Report 1 describes a case of a 29-year-old patient who suffered a mandibular trauma affecting mainly the lower central incisors, caused by a car accident. A panoramic radiograph was taken right after the accident and showed a horizontal root fracture in the middle third of tooth 42, which went untreated. Report 2 illustrates a case of a 17-year-old male patient who searched for orthodontic therapy and the periapical radiograph showed horizontal root fracture in tooth 11 caused by a previous trauma, which went untreated as well. There was healing through the reestablishment of pulp activity and dental coloration without professional intervention.

Correction of Acidity of a Brazilian Cerrado Oxisol with Limestone and Wood Ash on the Initial Growth of Cowpea

Among Brazilian soils orders, there are some of it classified as acid soils, which need correction to guarantee crop productivity. Currently, limestone is the most used soil corrective and wood ash has been a sustainable alternative to this process. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the effect of two correctives of soil acidity on an Oxisol collected in the Brazilian Cerrado area using limestone and wood ash and the effect of soil correction on initial growth of cowpea. Two greenhouse experiments were carried out: 1) with limestone, using base saturation levels (V%) of 0, 20, 40, 60 and 80;and 2) wood ash, with doses of 0, 8, 16, 24 and 32 g⋅dm−3, both in five randomized blocks. At 40 days after sowing, it was verified that pH values were within the range considered ideal for soil (pH of 5 to 7), according to the increase of base saturation levels and wood ash doses, but limestone provided faster results. Initial growth of cowpea was positively influenced by soil correction with use of both correctives. Wood ash and limestone increased soil pH to adequate values and resulted in better initial crop development.
