Moving bed biofilm reactors(MBBR)are equipment used to remove organic compounds and are frequently tested for aquaculture operations aimed at treating and reusing ***,a limitation of MBBR is the long maturation period necessary for nitrification to occur *** evaluated biofilm maturation in MBBR with biomass adhered to support material using enriched medium-NH_(4)Cl and a treatment without *** independent recirculating aquaculture systems were established based on a freshwater fish farm that produced a daily total ammonia nitrogen concentration of 1.0 mg/*** treatment was composed of a reservoir and two experimental bioreactors that received support materials for the colonization of the adhered *** results indicated that the enriched bioreactors performed slower,taking 29 days to reach maturity,while the control treatment matured at 27 *** species Candidatus Nitrospira defluvii,responsible for acting in the nitrification process became more abundant in the control treatment where it represented 23%of the biofilm composition,while the enriched treatment presented only 3%.The results suggest that the nitrification process in the control treatment performed better than in the enriched ***,the use of synthetic media such as NH_(4)Cl and sodium acetate as sources of C:N associated with the Pimelodus maculatus effluent during the start-up process had an important benefit to the maturation time of both bioreactors.

effect of Na Fe eDTA-Fortified Soy Sauce on Anemia Prevalence in China: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Objective To assess the effect of sodium iron ethylenediaminetetraacetate （NaFeeDTA）-fortified soy sauce on anemia prevalence in the Chinese population. Methods A systematic review was performed to identify potential studies by searching the electronic databases of PubMed, Cochrane Library, WHO Library, HighWire, CNKI, and other sources. The selection criteria included randomized controlled trials that compared the efficacy of NaFeeDTA-fortified soy sauce with that of non-fortified soy sauce. Anemia rates and hemoglobin levels were the outcomes of interest. Inclusion decisions, quality assessment, and data extraction were performed by two reviewers independently. A total of 16 studies met the inclusion criteria for anemia rate analysis, of which 12 studies met the inclusion criteria for hemoglobin analysis. All included studies assessed the effect of NaFeeDTA-fortified soy sauce on anemia rates and hemoglobin concentrations. Results After the intervention, the hemoglobin concentration increased and anemia rates decreased significantly as compared with the non-fortified soy sauce groups. For anemia rates, data from 16 studies could be pooled, and the pooled estimate odds ratio was 0.25 （95% CI 0.19-0.35）. For hemoglobin concentrations, data from 12 studies could be pooled, and the pooled weighted mean difference was 8.81 g/L （95% CI 5.96-11.67）. Conclusion NaFeeDTA-fortified soy sauce has a positive effect on anemia control and prevention in the at-risk population.

Nutritional Status and Virological Outcomes of Children HIV Positive Attending Anti-Retroviral Clinic at University College Hospital, Ibadan

Malnutrition has been reported as a major factor contributing to the poor outcome of effective ART in HIV infection. This study aimed to describe the relationship between the nutritional status and virological outcome of the children attending the antiretroviral clinic at University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Nigeria. Among the 159 (55.3% males and 44.7% females) children studied, almost half (42.8%) were orphans and the majority 56.6% were aged 120 - 180 months old. More than half (74.2%) had achieved viral suppression and significant associations were observed between viral load and stunting as well as between CD4 count and the age of the children (P 0.05). The prevalence of stunting, wasting, and underweight was 27.7%, 9.4%, and 13.6% respectively. These indices reinforce the need for nutrition education and the provision of food supplements to improve the nutritional status of children infected with HIV.

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of cetuxim-ab plus irinotecan in irinotecan-refractory metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients from South-east Asia and Australia. MeTHODS:In this open-label,phase Ⅱ study,the main eligibility criteria were epidermal growth factor receptor-positive mCRC with progressive disease within 3 mo of an irinotecan-based regimen as the most recent chemotherapy. Patients received cetuximab 400 mg/m2 initially,then 250 mg/m2 every week,with the same regimen of irinotecan on which the patients had progressed (4 pre-defined regim-ens allowed). The prim-ary objective was evaluation of progression-free survival (PFS) at 12 wk. Secondary objectives included a further investigation of PFS,and an assessment of the overall response rate (ORR),duration of response,time to treatment failure (TTF),overall survival and the safety profile. ReSULTS:One hundred and twenty nine patients were enrolled from-25 centers in the Asia-Pacific region and of these 123 received cetuximab plus irinotecan. The most common recent irinotecan regimen used was 180 mg/m2 every 2 wk which had been used in 93 patients (75.6%). The PFS rate at 12 wk was 50% (95% confidence interval (CI,41-59) and m-edian PFS tim-e was 12.1 wk (95% CI:9.7-17.7). The ORR was 13.8% (95% CI:8.3-21.2) and disease control rate was 49.6% (95% CI:40.5-58.8). Median duration of response was 31.1 wk (95% CI:18.0-42.6) and median overall survival was 9.5 mo (95% CI,7.5-11.7). The median TTF was 11.7 wk (95% CI:9.1-17.4). Treatment was generally well tolerated. The most common grade 3/4 adverse events were diarrhea (13.8%),neutropenia (8.9%),rash (5.7%) and vomiting (5.7%).CONCLUSION:In patients from Asia and Australia,this study confirm-s the activity and safety of cetuxim-ab plus irinotecan observed in previous studies in europe and South America.

Physical Forcing Induced Coastal Vulnerability along the Gulf of Guinea

Coastal areas of the Gulf of Guinea experience accelerated degradation as a result of erosion and flooding associated with intensification of extreme marine-meteorological phenomena. The coastal erosion process, especially on the sandy or muddy littoral, constitutes one of the main factors of the degradation of the Gulf of the Guinean coast. These risks, which are still poorly studied, could increase over the coming decades because of climate change and the human activities that exacerbate them. Data related to ocean forcing (tide, wave, and sea level anomaly), to hydrologic parameter (rainfall) and to the state (geomorphology, coastal slope, and rate of coastal retreat) of the coast were analyzed by several statistical methods and a numerical vulnerability model to map the vulnerability of the different coastlines of this region. The results showed that the vulnerability of these coastal areas is influenced by geomorphology, tide, waves and rainfall intensity. 24.34% and 37% of the entire coast are of low and moderate vulnerability respectively. While 26.98% and 11.66% are of high and very high vulnerability respectively. This information could facilitate developing sustainable policies to effectively manage hazards in this coastal zone.

Predictive Models for Optimisation of Acetone Mediated extraction of Polyphenolic Compounds from By-Product of Cider Production

Response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to provide predictive models for optimisation of extraction of selected polyphenolic compounds from cider apple pomace under aqueous acetone. The design of experiment (Doe) was conducted to evaluate the influence of acetone concentration % (v/v), solid-to solvent ratio % (w/v), temperature (˚C) and extraction time (min) and their interaction on phenolic contents, using the Central Composite Rotatable Design (CCRD). The experimental data were analysed to fit statistical models for recovery of phenolic compounds. The selected models were significant (P 0.05), except for Chlorogenic acid and Quercetin 3-glucoside which had significant lack of fits (P R2 > 0.9000 and adjusted? ?reasonable agrees with predicted . Coefficient of variation each determination at the 95% confidence interval. These models could be relied upon to achieve optimal concentrations of polyphenolic compounds for applications in nutraceutical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

本文的研究目的是:对中国、俄罗斯和美国的数学教科书进行对比,分析三国数学教科书中自然数和分数等重要数学问题的呈现和组织方式,找出其中的差异和相似之处。基于对中国、俄罗斯和美国三国小学数学教科书编写结构的比较分析,本研究旨在对中小学数学教科书的编写者提供启示。本研究论证了如下问题:有关所选主题的材料是如何呈现在教科书中的,教科书中的理论材料是怎样阐述的以及在课堂实践中阐述课程主题时有哪些问题需要考虑。收集的数据揭示了中、俄、美三国数学教科书的共同点和不同特征。研究发现,对自然数与分数内容设计的研究结论可以概括为以下几点:中国教科书把内容分成下列几个部分:首先通过举例对主题进行简要的说明,并附上解释性的图片;然后是与主题相关的运算练习。教学内容的主题根据年龄而定,也就是说,一年级和二年级把重点放在对自然数的研究和算术运算上,从而使学生能够熟练掌握数字运算。到了三年级,学生们开始学习分数和小数的初步概念。教学材料的内容是有序出现的,且集中在关键概念和重要部分上,从而培养学生对数学概念进行应用的机械能力。尽管教材的每个部分篇幅都不是很大,但是对数字和分数的研究却发展的十分迅速。俄罗斯教科书中的小学教材内容清晰明了,各部分的篇幅也是十分适中的。俄罗斯的中学(五年级和六年级)教科书的呈现和阐述十分紧凑,并且对复杂的内容进行了详细的解释说明。教材中有许多结构性任务,其中有很多复杂的任务都没有附上图片。总体上,教材的编写是有渐进性和稳定性的。每个主题都与前一个主题相关,这样的话就可以让学生可以复习到前面所学的概念。美国教科书中的教学材料是交替呈现、穿插分布的,也就是说,学生会在二年级的时候逐渐学习算术运算,而且二年级的教材也对分数的初始概念进行了介绍。尽管在每个阶段都有点复杂,但是美国教科书中的教学内容在自然数和分数等主题的不断升级中逐步完成。美国教科书基本上以简单的方式解释新概念,大量的图表可以帮助学生更容易地理解教材的内容。
