It is important for surgeons performing sarcoma surgery to know that bone resection and tumor prosthesis applications in soft tissue sarcomas(STS)have unique features in terms of indication,surgical approach and follow-up,in terms of the management of these cases.Some STS are associated with bone and major neurovascular structures.Bone-associated STS are generally relatively large and relatively deep-seated.Additionally,the tendency for metastasis is high.In some cases,the decision about which structures to resect is difficult.These cases are often accompanied by poor oncological and surgical outcomes.Management of cases should be done by a multidisciplinary team in advanced centers specialized in this field.The surgical team must have sufficient knowledge and experience in the field of limb-sparing surgery.Preoperative evaluation and especially good planning of bone and soft tissue reconstruction are vital.

Tuberculosis(TB)continues to be one of the major infectious diseases threatening millions of lives worldwide.[1]We encountered a 52-day-old male infant with a anterior mediastinal mass caused by tuberculosis.On admission to our hospital,the infant presented with respiratory distress,wheezing,fever,and cough.Decreased breath sounds were audible at the apex of the left chest.His temperature was 38.2℃.

Symptomatic cyclops lesions are complications that can be seen at rates of up to approximately 10%after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.However,recurrent cyclops lesions have rarely been documented.There are case rare series in the literature regarding the treatment of recurrent cyclops lesion.Future large studies are needed to investigate factors contributing to the development of cyclops lesions and syndrome and treatment options.

BACKGROUND Periprosthetic joint infection(PJI)is a critical complication after joint arthroplasty and is accompanied by increasing rates of morbidity and mortality.Several studies have aimed at preventing PJI.AIM To research the knowledge level and attitudes of orthopedic surgeons,who play a key role in both preventing and managing PJI.METHODS We conducted a web-based survey to evaluate orthopedic surgeons'knowledge level and attitudes regarding PJI.The Likert scale survey utilized consisted of 30 questions which were prepared based on the"Proceedings of the International Consensus on Periprosthetic Joint Infection".RESULTS A total of 264 surgeons participated in the survey.Their average age was 44.8,and 173 participants(65.5%)had more than 10 years of experience.No statistically significant relationship was found between the PJI knowledge of the surgeons and their years of experience.However,participants who worked in training and research hospitals demonstrated higher levels of knowledge than the ones in the state hospitals.It was also noticed that surgeons'knowledge concerning the duration of antibiotic therapy and urinary infections was not consistent with their attitudes.CONCLUSION Even though orthopedic surgeons have adequate knowledge about preventing and managing PJI,their attitudes might contradict their knowledge.Future studies are required to examine the causes and solutions of the contradictions between orthopedic surgeons'knowledge and attitudes.

Discontinuities have significant role on the behavior of rock masses with respect to several types of instabilities. Excavability, deformability, bearing capacity and slope stability of the rock masses should be investigated considering the discontinuity characteristics with particular emphasis on the geomechanical properties. Kinematic analyses mostly provide an insight to the instabilities, however the dimensions of the blocks bounded by discontinuities, their geomechanical properties and the geometry of the slope should also to be taken into account. The study area is in the abandoned stone quarry in Bayrakl? district of ?zmir residential area. Due to the excavations and discontinuity orientations, instabilities have occured. Miocene aged andesites and altered agglomerates of Yamanlar Volcanics form the bimrock mass. The study area is located within a sheared zone, bounded by strike slip fault zone. Intact andesite blocks were encountered in altered agglomerate matrix, forming a volcanic bimrock. Wedge and planar sliding and block toppling were observed within the area. Detailed discontinuity surveying was conducted, combined with core drillings. Several typical locations were detected where prismatic blocks of andesites are bound to experience block toppling. Such locations are nearby the top of the steep slopes. Agglomerates are subjected to mainly sliding and the blocks have been formed not by gravity but by peculiarities of thevolcanic sedimentation and, probably by subsequent tectonics. In order to determine the mechanism of the sliding and toppling in more details, the relation of the blocks and the slope geometry were investigated. Bimrock type volcanic rock masses sometimes do not tend to accommodate the general rules of toppling and sliding due to their anisotropic settings.

In this work,dynamics of diffusion of innovation in the smartphone markets is modeled by using an agent-based simulation in a period of 28 quarters starting from 2009.Rapid changes in smartphone technology affected the consumer preferences and two operating systems,namely Android and iOS,out of over 10 operating systems,and dominated the smartphone markets in a period of 6 years.The model aims to study the conditions of competition and adoption among similar high technology products.Relative roles of the essential parameters,namely affordability and social effects have been the main interest points in these studies.For this end,a simple,Cobb–Douglas production relation-based model on simple square lattice is introduced.The model parameters are adjusted to match the simulation results with the actual market shares data obtained from Statista.A clear relation between the model parameter values and global sales of different operating systems is observed.

This study evaluates the toxicological and biochemical response of two-spotted spider mites to clofentezine selection pressure. The mortality rate of Tetranychus urticae in adult females depends on increased clofentezine concentration and clofentezine was found to be effective against females. The resistance rate of the CUM strain selected 12 times once per generation with clofentezine was increased from 1.28- to 105.27-fold. The interaction of some synergists with clofentezine was analyzed in the clofentezine-resistant CLOF 12 strain. Synergists had no effect on clofentezine toxicity. The clofentezine-resistant CLOF 12 strain showed resistance against chlorpyrifos, abamectin, propargite, fenpyroximate and amitraz. The modes of inheritance of resistance to clofentezine were found to be incompletely dominant and not sex-linked. Esterase enzyme activity was detected both by gel electrophoresis and microplate reader methods, while glutathione S-transferase （GST） and monooxygenase （P450） activity were detected only by the microplate reader method. During the selection period the esterase, the GST and the P450 enzymes activities were raised from 7.69, 7.09 and 0.003 3 to 18.40, 13.11 and 0.003 7 milli-optical density/rain/rag proteins, respectively. An increase was observed in the band intensity of esterases and esterase enzymes may play a role in clofentezine resistance in T. urticae.

The present research brings new insights on the role of admixed corrosion inhibitors in the processes of cement hydration and rebar corrosion. The admixing of NaCl and the corrosion inhibitors in fresh mortar was found to alter the morphology and microstructure of the hardened mortar at the steel-mortar interfacial region. The admixing of the inhibitors increased the risk of carbonation of cement hydrates at the steel-mortar interfacial region, but partially displaced chloride ions. Chloride and the admixed inhibitors facilitated the formation of different cement hydrates and affected chloride binding at the steel-mortar interfacial region. The admixing of all three inhibitors was found to increase the polarization resistance of steel, indicating reduced corrosion rate of the steel over 48-day exposures to salt ponding.

Seepage failure by heave in sheeted excavation pits constructed in stratified cohesionless soils

In this study,experimental and numerical investigations are performed to clarify the seepage failure by heave in sheeted excavation pits in stratified cohesionless soils in which a relatively permeable soil layer(Kupper)lies above a less permeable soil layer(Klower)between excavation base and wall tip.It is shown that the evaluation of base stabilities of excavation pits against seepage failure by using Terzaghi and Peck's approach leads to considerably lower critical potential differences than those obtained from the model tests.On the other hand,a relatively good agreement is achieved between the results of the model tests and the finite element(FE)analyses.Further investigations are performed by using axisymmetric excavation models with various dimensions and ground conditions,and a comparison between the results obtained from Terzaghi and Peck's approach and finite element analyses is given.
