The abundance of predatory phytoseiid mites,Typhlodromus pyri,important biological control agents of spider mite pests in numerous crops,is positively influenced by the density of leaf trichomes and tuft-form domatia in vein *** of the genetic regions controlling both trophic levels could facilitate the improvement of predatory mite habitat in breeding *** abundance of *** and non-glandular trichomes was measured in a segregating F1 family derived from the cross of the complex Vitis hybrid,‘Horizon’,with Illinois 547-1(*** B38×*** B9),finding positive correlation among *** density genetic maps were used to localize one major quantitative trait locus(QTL)on chromosome 1 of Illinois 547-1 associated with both predatory mite abundance and leaf *** QTL explained 23%of the variation in phytoseiid abundance and similar amounts of variance in domatia rating(21%),domatia size(16%),leaf bristle density(37%in veins and 33%in blades),and leaf hair density(20%in veins and 15%in blades).Another nine QTL distributed among chromosomes 1,2,5,8,and 15 were associated solely with trichome density,and explained 7–17%of the phenotypic ***,our results provide evidence of the genetic architecture of non-glandular trichomes in Vitis,with a major locus influencing trichome densities,domatia size and predatory mite *** information is relevant for breeding grapevines with a more favorable habitat for biological control agents.

momordica foetida is a plant widely used in tropical Africa to manage gastroenteric diseases. Previous studies demonstrated interesting antibacterial activity against human pathogenic bacteria. However, the security or toxicity of methanol leaf extract has not been determined yet. The aim of this study was to evaluate the acute and sub-acute toxicity of the leaf extract of momordica foetida. In the acute toxicity study, a single oral dose of 5000 mg/kg body weight was administered to rats which were observed for 14 days in order to identify signs of toxicity or death. In the sub-acute toxicity, the animals were treated with 250, 500 and 1000 mg/kg of the extract for 28 consecutive days. Body weights and behavior were noted throughout the experiment. Upon treatment, blood and urine were collected for hematological and biochemical analysis. Liver, lungs, heart, kidneys, testes and ovaries were analyzed for relative weights and histopathology. The acute toxicity study of m. foetida leaf extract revealed no signs of toxicity related to the treatment, indicating that the median-lethal-dose (LD50) value is greater than 5000 mg/Kg of body weight. In the sub-acute toxicity assay, the extract did not affect the general behavior of animals, meanwhile, it led to a significant increase in the levels of red blood cells, platelets, hemoglobin, granulocytes and mid-Cells (mIDs). Biochemical parameters showed an increase in total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, serum urea, serum and urinary glucose and a decrease in urinary proteins, serum creatinine, urinary urea levels, serum activities of AST, ALT and proteins levels, as well as increases in lung, spleen and ovaries relative weight were noticed, all compared to control animals. Histological analysis revealed a normal architecture of kidneys, liver, heart, lung, ovaries and testes. A patient with an apparent sporadic medullary thyroid carcinoma was tested for RET germline mutations by Sanger sequencing of RET exons 10, 11, and 13-16. The patient was heterozygous for two known mutations causative of multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 2 disorder, and both mutations were within codon 620 of RET exon 10, c.1859G > T (p.C620F) and c.1860C > G (p.C620W). In order to determine if these adjacent mutations were in cis or in trans, an unlabeled probe method and high-resolution melting analysis were utilized. The mutations were confirmed to occur in cis, representing a novel mutation, c.1859_1860delinsTG (p.C620L). Sanger sequencing of parental samples did not identify any changes at codon 620, so the p.C620L mutation is also de novo. The early age of onset for medullary thyroid carcinoma and the presence of lymph node metastasis in this patient suggests individuals with the p.C620L mutation should be treated and screened (for pheochromocytomas and parathyroid hyperplasia) as multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 2 patients with other RET codon 620 mutations (American Thyroid Association risk level B).

Leishmaniasis is a zoonotic disease caused by protozoan parasites of the genus *** chemotherapy remains to be the most preferred measure against leishmaniasis despite being associated with high toxicity and relapse *** are also expensive and require hospitaliza***-based compounds provide a better treatment alternative because they are effective,cheap,and less associated with toxicity and *** study examined the therapeutic potential of Warburgia ugandensis,Prunus africana,and Piliostigma thonningii against Leishmania donovani infection in BALB/c ***-promastigote and toxicity studies were evaluated by incubating the test compound with promastigotes and Vero cells,*** was obtained from the mice for total immunoglobulin gamma(IgG)*** in vivo studies,the mice were infected with virulent Leishmania donovani then treated with methanolic extracts of Warburgia ugandensis,Prunus africana,and Piliostigma thonningii and control drug,pentostam(sodium stibogluconate).Treatment with the plant extracts and standard drug resulted to significant reduction in parasite *** in the mice treated with plant extracts were comparable to those treated with pentostam(P≥0.05).In the promastigote assay,all the test compounds killed more than half of the promastigotes at the highest concentration(500μg/mL).Warburgia ugandensis,***,and *** reduced the number of promastigotes from 2.0×10^(6) to 7.7×10^(3),72.0×10^(3),and 5.0×10^(3),*** had the lowest IC50(210μg/mL),followed by Warburgia ugandensis(IC50 of 270μg/mL).Piliostigma thonningii and *** were less toxic with IC50 of 720μg/mL and 500μg/mL,*** was low production of IgG antibodies following treatment with the plant extracts and high levels in the untreated control.
