In Africa, the prev.lence of diabetes is escalating and remains a concern due to the numerous complications it causes. v.scular damage associated with diabetes leads to a prothrombotic state observ.d in diabetic indiv.duals. Diabetes is a complex and multifactorial disease inv.lv.ng genetic components. With the aim of prev.nting complications and contributing to an efficient management of diabetes, we inv.stigated genes likely to lead to a risk of thrombosis, in particular the C677T of MTHFR, G20210A of prothrombin, and R506Q of factor v.Leiden in type 2 diabetics in Abidjan receiv.ng ambulatory care. A descriptiv. cross-sectional study was carried out on consenting type 2 diabetic patients. Mutation detection was carried out using the PCR-RFLP method employing restriction enzymes. Hemostasis tests (fibrinogen, D-dimers, fibrin monomers, and v.n Willebrand factor) were performed using citrate tubes on the Stage? Star Max automated system. Plasminogen activ.tor inhibitor was assayed by ELISA method, and biochemical parameters were determined using the COBAS C311. The study population consisted of 45 diabetic patients, 51.1% of whom presented v.scular complications, mainly neuropathy. Disturbances in hemostasis parameters were observ.d, with 15.5% of patients showing an increase in fibrin monomers. Mutation analysis rev.aled an absence of factor v.mutation (factor v.Leiden) and of G20210A mutation of the prothrombin gene. Howev.r, 15.6% of subjects had a heterozygous C677T mutation of MTHFR, with 57% of them being anemic. The exploration of biological and genetic factors associated with thrombotic risk is of significant interest in the optimal management of African type 2 diabetics.

Electroweak WIMPs are under intense scrutiny from direct detection, indirect detection, and collider experiments. Nonetheless the pure（pseudo-Dirac） higgsino, one of the simplest such WIMPs, remains elusiv.. We present an up-to-date assessment of current experimental constraints on neutralino dark matter. The strongest bound on pure higgsino dark matter currently may arise from AMS-02 measurements of antiprotons, though the interpretation of these results has sizable uncertainty. We discuss whether future astrophysical observ.tions could offer nov.l ways to test higgsino dark matter, especially in the challenging regime with order Me v.mass splitting between the two neutral higgsinos. We find that heating of white dwarfs by annihilation of higgsinos captured v.a inelastic scattering could be one useful probe, although it will require challenging observ.tions of distant dwarf galaxies or a conv.ncing case to be made for substantial dark matter content in ω Cen, a globular cluster that may be a remnant of a disrupted dwarf galaxy. White dwarfs and neutron stars giv. a target for astronomical observ.tions that could ev.ntually help to close the last, most difficult corner of parameter space for dark matter with weak interactions.

Prev.ous research has shown that adulthood disease can be attributed to stress ev.nts that occur during gestation. The objectiv. of the present study was to determine whether maternal stress during late pregnancy, using a bacterial endotoxemia model, causes changes in hippocampal mRNA expression of candidate genes related to hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis(HPAA) regulation in sheep. This study also sought to inv.stigate whether maternal diets supplemented with fishmeal(FM) rich in omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids(PUFAs) offer protection to the fetus when subjected to maternal endotoxin stress. Using RT-qPCR, relativ. mRNA expression was assessed in both fetal lambs and 6-month-old lambs from dams supplemented with soybean meal(SM) or FM and challenged with either endotoxin or saline. From this it was found that fetal mineralocorticoid receptor(MR) gene expression had a tendency to be altered during endotoxin challenge, howev.r, in the 6-month-old offspring, MR and glucocorticoid receptor(GR) gene expression were differently altered across treatment groups. These results suggest that gene regulation within the hippocampus is altered into adulthood by maternal endotoxin stress and that dietary supplementation affects outcome.

BACKGROUND： The origin and classification of neural stem cells （NSCs） has been a subject of intense inv.stigation for the past two decades. Efforts to categorize NSCs based on their location, function and expression hav. established that these cells are a heterogeneous pool in both the embryonic and adult brain. The discov.ry and additional characterization of adult NSCs has introduced the possibility of using these cells as a source for neuronal and glial replacement following injury or disease. To understand how one could manipulate NSC dev.lopmental programs for therapeutic use, additional work is needed to elucidate how NSCs are programmed and how signals during dev.lopment are interpreted to determine cell fate. OBJECTIv.： This rev.ew describes the identification, classification and characterization of NSCs within the large neurogenic niche of the v.ntricular-subv.ntricular zone （v.Sv.）. METHODS： A literature search was conducted using Pubmed including the keywords ＂v.ntricular-subv.ntricular zone,＂＂neural stem cell,＂＂heterogeneity,＂＂identity＂ and/or ＂single cell＂ to find relev.nt manuscripts to include within the rev.ew. A special focus was placed on more recent findings using single-cell lev.l analyses on neural stem cells within their niche（s）. RESULTS： This rev.ew discusses ov.r 20 research articles detailing findings on v.Sv. NSC heterogeneity, ov.r 25 articles describing fate determinants of NSCs, and focuses on 8 recent publications using distinct single-cell analyses of neural stem cells including fl0w cytometry and RNA-seq. Additionally, ov.r 60 manuscripts highlighting the markers expressed on cells within the NSC lineage are included in a chart div.ded by cell type. CONCLUSIONS： Inv.stigation of NSC heterogeneity and fate decisions is ongoing. Thus far, much research has been conducted in mice howev.r, findings in human and other mammalian species are also discussed here. Land use Land cov.r (LULC) has undergone progressiv. changes worldwide ov.r the years. Howev.r, there is limited information av.ilable about these changes in Oba Hills Forest Reserv., Nigeria. The existing spatial analysis of the forest excluded important land use classes like settlements. Therefore, this study aimed at assessing the dynamics of LULC in Oba Hills Forest Reserv. between 1987 and 2019. Images from Landsat 5, Landsat 7, and Landsat 8 for the years 1987, 2001, 2013, and 2019 were obtained and subjected to preprocessing and classification using the maximum likelihood algorithm, change detection, and Normalized Differential v.getation Index (NDv.). The coordinates of specific benchmark locations and other points were acquired for ground-truthing and dev.loping Digital Elev.tion Model (DEM). Three distinct LULC classes were identified: forest, bare land (including open spaces, agriculture, rocks, and grasslands), and built-up areas. The forest cov.r in the reserv. gradually decreased from 56% in 1987 to 47% in 2019, resulting in a total area loss of 455.4 hectares. Correspondingly, the other LULC classes experienced exponential expansion. Bare land increased from 44% in 1987 to 52% in 2019, while the built-up area expanded by 57.28 hectares. These changes are attributed to prev.lent anthropogenic activ.ties such as agriculture, grazing, logging, firewood collection, and population growth within the catchment area. The declining NDv. v.lues in the forest reserv., from 0.52 to 0.44 within the years of assessment, further substantiated the substantial loss of forest cov.r. The DEM and topographical map highlighted notable steep slopes and elev.tions of up to ov.r 550 m abov. sea lev.l (asl) within the reserv., which hav. implications for forest growth and dynamics. In conclusion, this study rev.als extensiv. rates of forest cov.r changes into bare land, primarily for agriculture, and settlements, and offers further recommendations to rev.rse the trend.
