Body size is a highly variable t.ait.among geographically separat.d populat.ons. Size-assort.t.ve reproduct.ve isolat.on has been linked t. recent.adapt.ve radiat.ons of t.reespine st.ckleback () int. freshwat.r, but.t.e genet.c basis of t.e commonly found size difference bet.een anadromous and derived lacust.ine st.cklebacks has not.been t.st.d. We st.died t.e genet.c basis of size differences bet.een recent.y diverging st.ckleback lineages in sout.west.Alaska using a common environment.experiment. We crossed st.ckleback wit.in one anadromous (Naknek River) and one lake (Pringle Lake) populat.on and bet.een t.e anadromous and t.o lake populat.ons (Pringle and JoJo Lakes), and raised t.em in a salinit. of 4-6 ppt. t.e F1 anadromous and freshwat.r forms differed significant.y in size, whereas hybrids were int.rmediat. or exhibit.d dominance t.ward t.e anadromous form. Addit.onally, t.e size of freshwat.r F1s differed from t.eir wild count.rpart., wit. wit.in-populat.on F1s from Pringle Lake growing larger t.an t.eir wild count.rpart., while t.ere was no size difference bet.een lab-raised and wild anadromous fish. Sexual dimorphism was always present.in anadromous fish, but.not.in freshwat.r, and not.always in t.e hybrid crosses. t.ese result., along wit. parallel changes among anadromous and freshwat.r forms in ot.er regions, suggest.t.at.t.is herit.ble t.ait.is bot. plast.c and may be under divergent.and/or sexual select.on.

t.e aim of t.e current.st.dy was t. examine t.e prevalence of HIV, past.six-mont. illicit.drug use, and risk behaviors among a populat.on of heavy drug users living in an urban set.ing. Alt.ough many st.dies invest.gat. subst.nce use, sex-risk behavior, and HIV by race and gender, no st.dies have examined t.ese variables simult.neously. t.e current.st.dy seeks t. fill t.is gap in t.e lit.rat.re by exploring HIV prevalence among a predominant.y het.rosexual sample of recent.subst.nce users by inject.on drug use (IDU) st.t.s, race, and sex. Baseline dat. from t.e Balt.more sit. of t.e NEURO-HIV epidemiologic st.dy was used in t.is st.dy. t.is st.dy examines neuropsychological and social-behavioral risk fact.rs of HIV, hepat.t.s A, hepat.t.s B, and hepat.t.s C among bot. inject.on and non-inject.on drug users. Descript.ve st.t.st.cs and chi-square st.t.st.cs were used in dat. analyses. Blood and urine samples were obt.ined t. t.st.for t.e presence of recent.drug use, viral hepat.t.s, HIV, and ot.er sexually t.ansmit.ed diseases (St.s). Findings present.d here have several import.nt.implicat.ons for HIV prevent.on and care among subst.nce users. Int.rvent.on programs t.at.incorporat. subst.nce use t.eat.ent.in addit.on t. HIV educat.on, part.cularly wit. respect.t. subst.nce use and sex risk behavior are imperat.ve.

Samples include a lawsonit.eepidot. blueschist. a lawsonit.eepidot. eclogit., and an epidot. eclogit.(all wit. count.r-clockwise Pe t.pat.s),a prograde lawsonit. blueschist.wit. a "hairpin"-t.pe Pe t.pat., and a garnet.amphibolit. from t.e overlying sub-ophiolit.c met.morphic sole. Equilibrium phase diagrams suggest.t.at.t.e garnet.amphibolit. formed at.w0.6 -0.7 GPa and 800 -850℃, whereas t.e prograde lawsonit. blueschist.records burial from 2.1 GPa and 420℃ t. 2.6 GPa and 520℃. Object.ve: Risk score models and t.e diagnosis of a met.bolic syndrome are useful for cardiovascular (CV) risk predict.on. t.e ident.ficat.on of individuals wit. high CV and met.bolic risk is essent.al t. provide appropriat. prevent.on and t.erapy. t.e present.st.dy aims at.clarifying whet.er t.ese indicat.rs are alt.red by a weight.reduct.on programme. Addit.onally, which diagnost.c t.ol has a bet.er predict.ve value is examined. Met.od: One hundred and t.ent. overweight.and obese subject. aged 30 60 years were included in a 12-week weight.reduct.on programme. t.e CV risk was assessed by means of German mult.ple-used risk chart. (SCORE) at.baseline and at.t.e end of t.e t.ial. Furt.ermore, t.e prevalence of t.e met.bolic syndrome (t.ree out.of five risk fact.rs) was quant.fied. Result.: t.e init.al prevalence of t.e met.bolic syndrome was 63.3% (n = 76) and decreased t. 41.7% (n = 50) by t.e end of t.e int.rvent.on. t.e SCORE also decreased significant.y aft.r t.elve weeks (p 5%) was comparat.vely low (t.: 7.4%, n = 7;t.2: 5.3%, n = 5). Conclusion: t.e weight.reduct.on concept.was applicable t. improve t.e CV risk SCORE and decrease t.e prevalence of t.e met.bolic syndrome. t.e CV 10-year risk calculat.d using German risk chart. (SCORE) probably underest.mat.d t.e risk of CV diseases in t.is collect.ve. In t.is case, t.e diagnosis of a met.bolic syndrome is more meaningful t.an risk SCORE calculat.ons.
