Marine biogenic emission of dimethylsulfi de(DMs)has been well recognized as the main natural source of reduced sulfur to the remote marine atmosphere and has the potential to aff ect climate,especially in the polar *** used a global climate model(GCM)to investigate the impact on atmospheric chemistry from a change to the contemporary DMs fl ux to that which has been projected for the late 21 st *** perturbed simulation corresponded to conditions that pertained to a tripling of equivalent CO 2,which was estimated to occur by year 2090 based on current worst-case greenhouse gas emission *** changes in zonal mean DMs fl ux were applied to 50°s–70°s Antarctic(ANT)and 65°N–80°N Arctic(ARC)*** results indicate that there are clearly diff erent impacts after perturbation in the southern and northern polar *** quantities related to the sulfur cycle show a higher increase in ***,most sulfur compounds have higher peaks in *** perturbation in DMs fl ux leads to an increase of atmospheric DMs of about 45%in ANT and 33.6%in *** sulfur dioxide(sO 2)vertical integral increases around 43%in ANT and 7.5%in ***(sO 4)vertical integral increases by 17%in ANT and increases around 6%in *** emissions increases by 21%in ANT and increases by 9.7%in ***,oxidation of DMs by OH increases by 38.2%in ARC and by 15.17%in *** optical depth(AOD)increases by 4%in the ARC and by 17.5%in the ANT,and increases by 22.8%in austral *** importance of the perturbation of the biogenic source to future aerosol burden in polar regions leads to a cooling in surface temperature of 1 K in the ANT and 0.8 K in the ***,polar regions in the Antarctic Ocean will have a higher off setting eff ect on warming after DMs fl ux perturbation.

Retinal dysfunction is the most common cause of vision loss in several retinal *** has been estimated a great increase in these pathologies that are becoming more globally widespread and numerous over time,also supported by the life expectancy *** different types of retinopathies,we can account some that share causes,symptoms,and treatment including diabetic retinopathy,age-related macular degeneration,glaucoma,and retinitis *** changes,environmental factors,and genetic predisposition might be some of the main causes that drive retinal tissue to chronic inflammation and neurodegeneration in these *** treatments available on the market contain compounds that efficiently ameliorate some of the important clinical features of these pathologies like stabilization of the intraocular pressure,reduction of eye inflammation,control of eye oxidative stress which are considered the major molecular mechanisms related to retinal ***,the most commonly used drugs are antiinflammatories,such as corticosteroids,antioxidant,hypotonic molecules and natural neuroprotective ***,these drugs,which are fundamental to treating disease symptoms,are not capable to cure the pathologies and so they are not life-changing for *** review provided an overview of current treatments on the market,but more interestingly,wants to be a quick window on the new treatments that are now in clinical ***,it has been here highlighted that the recent technical enhancement of the investigation methods to identify the various retinopathies causes might be used as a sort of“precise medicine”approach to tailor the identification of molecular pathways involved and potentially study a dedicated treatment for each *** approach includes the use of cutting-edge technologies like gene therapy and metabolomics.

Aims Adaptive evolution of invasive species is both particularly exciting for the evolutionary biologist and worrisome for those interested in controlling or halting *** species often have a dis-tinct timeline and well-recorded population *** invaders encounter new environments,they undergo rapid adaptive *** aim in this study was to measure variation of floral size in the invasive shrub Cytisus scoparius(scotch broom)and measure natural selection by pollinators on that *** research has found that this invasive plant is pollinator limited in Washington state and that declines in pollinator populations can contribute to local extinction in another invaded range(New Zealand).This plant is pollinated by both native and introduced species of bees,represent-ing a broad range of pollinator *** scoparius has a flower structure that is highly conducive to studies on pollinator choice,even in the absence of direct pollinator *** We surveyed urban and rural sites in and around the city of Olympia in Washington *** banner width,we were able to show that flower size varies substantially between plants but mini-mally within *** measuring the proportion of flowers that were‘tripped’,we could determine pollinator visitation rates and thus determine the level of selection due to pollinator choice *** Findings We found that *** is under natural selection by pollinators for increased flower ***,such positive natural selection was only seen in urban populations although it was consistent across two flowering *** populations of scotch broom do not appear to be under selection on flower *** natural selection by pollinators on broom flowers could result in adaptive evolution into a new pollination niche by an invading species.A higher level of variation in broom flowers seen here than seen in previous works in native regions suggests that *** may be high

How the Yue Yi lun Was Lost： Calligraphy, the Cultural Legacy, and Tang Women Rulers

Abstract Dating back to at least the Han dynasty, calligraphy has been a powerful object of culture and a medium of elite education, document preparation, and character evaluation. Discourses surrounding rulers and calligraphy form an important sub-strand in materials on calligraphy, and these accounts often depict calligraphy as a vehicle capable of reflecting a ruler＇s moral character. This paper explores narratives that blame early Tang women power-holders, in particular, the Taiping and Anle Princesses, for borrowing and subsequently losing precious calligraphic items that were considered the authentic work of Wang Xizhi. The analysis focuses on the ways in which the different narratives describe the physical movement or location of the Wang Xizhi pieces in relation to contemporary rule and factional politics. The narratives interpret the calligraphic manuscripts as an example of the cultural inheritance, to which the ruler should properly relate in particular ways. In this way, the fate of the Wang Xizhi artifacts is understood in terms of the complex relationship between imperial power and the court＇s cultural legacy.

Building Power： Conspicuous Consumption, Projection of Identity, and Female Power in the Late seventh and Early Eighth Centuries

This article explores propaganda and self-portrayals among women rulers in seventh and eighth century Tang China, a unique era in which court politics were dominated by female leaders. I analyze the way in which these leaders themselves wished to be rhetorically constructed, the images and allusions with which they desired to be figured, and the way in which they were rhetorically reconstructed by later writers after their deaths. I focus on the theme of auspiciousness--in particular, the definition of the ＂natural＂ in relation to gender identity and power. Female imagery is deployed in late seventh- and early eighth-century works to create the image of a particular brand of far-reaching, generative power possessed and/or desired by the leaders of the time. Beyond revealing the images and allusions with which the female power-holders wished to hear themselves be described and exalted, and what occasions were deemed worthy of exalting, these works offer a fascinating counterpoint to materials which retroactively defame this image. The rhetorical strategies and images later used to delegitimize and denigrate the power of these women often represent opposite treatments of themes present in the court literature from the Zhou-Jinglong era. This paper argues that reconstructions of these women＇s identities as female power-holders indicate the prerogative of later writers to reshape their images in accordance with their own judgments, conceptualizations, and fears of female power.

Beneficial effects of hirudotherapy in a chronic case of complex regional pain syndrome

We report about hirudotherapy in a patient with chronic complex regional pain syndrome(CRPs) in the right hand. CRPs is a multifactorial disease associated with disabling pain as well as sensory and motor deficits. The optimal therapeutic management is based on personalized multimodal treatment approaches;however, hirudotherapy has not been described in the available literature. To date, we have completed five medicinal leech treatments. Altogether, hirudotherapy led to rapid and substantial relief of symptoms, especially with respect to pain intensity ratings and skin temperature asymmetries. In addition, the patient’s active and passive agility of the affected limb improved obviously.

Experimentally measured neutron activation cross sections are presented for the ^(65)Cu(n,0)^(62m)Cu,^(41) K(n,a)^(38C)l,and ^(65)Cu(n.2n)^(64)Cu reactions with detailed uncertainty *** neutron cross secions were measured at an incident energy of 14.92±0.02 MeV,and the neutrons were based on the(d,n)a fusion *** ^(27) Al(n,a)^(24)Na reaction was used as a reference reaction for the normalization of the neutron *** pre-calib-rated lead-shielded HPGe detector was used to detect the residues'γ-ray *** data from the measured cross sections are compared to the previously measured cross sections from the EXFOR database,theoretically calculated cross sections using the TALYs and EMPIRE codes,and evaluated nuclear data.

Knowledge of the higher-level phylogenetic relationships of birds has grown substantially during the past two decades due to the application of genomic ***,the nomenclature of higher-level taxa has not become more stable,due to the lack of regulation of taxon names above the level of superfamily by the ICZN,and the usage of rank-based nomenclature,which is not tied to clades in a *** of regulation and the instability of rank-based nomenclature impede effective communication among *** review support for higher-level avian clades using a set of 10 phylogenomic data sets,and identify clades that are supported by congruency of at least four of *** provide formal definitions of the names of these clades based on the rules of the recently published *** names of 25 clades are here defined using minimum-crown-clade(n=23),minimum-clade(n=1)and maximum-crown-clade(n=1)*** new names are introduced here:Dinocrypturi,Pteroclimesites,Musophagotides,Phaethoquornithes and *** also review diagnostic apomorphies of the relevant clades,and identify known synonyms and *** establishing a formal link between higher-level taxon names and well-supported phylogenetic hypotheses,our phylogenetic definitions will provide a solid basis for the stabilization of avian higher-level nomenclature.

Arterial stiffness as a Cardiovascular Risk Factor in Prostate Cancer survivors:A Case-Control study

Purpose In New Zealand,prostate cancer (PCa) is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men and the third most common cause of male cancer *** these patients,the most common non-cancer related cause of death is cardiovascular disease (CVD).Aortic arterial stiffness may be clinically viable solution for detecting and tracking CVD risk factor in PCa *** aim of the study was to determine whether aortic arterial stiffness is increased in PCa survivors compared to age-matched *** Participants recruited for this prospective comparative study were PCa survivors who had completed treatment(other than endocrine therapy) or were on active surveillance compared,or were age-matched non-cancer *** a single 1-h appointment,all participants had measures of aortic arterial stiffness,arterial wave reflection,central blood pressure and body composition *** Ninety-eight men were recruited,51 PCa survivors and 47 *** was no significant between group dif-ference for aortic arterial stiffness[12.0 m/s (sD:1.7) vs.12.0 m/s (sD:1.9),P=0.953,d=0.0].Fat free mass[60.7 kg(sD:4.9) vs.65.1 kg (sD:8.3),P=0.007,d=0.6]and skeletal muscle index[8.6 kg/m2 (sD:0.6) vs.9.0 kg/m2 (sD:0.9),P=0.050,d=0.5]were lower in the PCa *** Aortic arterial stiffness is not increased (worse) in men with PCa who receive various treatments,compared to age-matched *** findings may indicate that factors other than increased aortic arterial stiffness contribute to heightened risk of cardiovascular events in this population.
