The pure shear strength for the all-simply supported plate has not yet been found;what is described as pure shear in that plate, is, in fact, a pure-shear solution for another plate clamped on the “Y-Y” and simply supported on the long side, X-X. A new solution for the simply supported case is presented here and is found to be only 60-percent of the currently believed results. Comparative results are presented for the all-clamped plate which exhibits great accuracy. The von Misses yield relation is adopted and through incremental deflection-rating the effective shear curvature is targeted in aspect-ratios. For a set of boundary conditions the Kirchhoff’s plate capacity is finite and invariant for bending, buckling in axial and pure-shear and in vibration.

Studies were carried out on the distribution and abundance of plankton in Awba stream and reservoir, University of Ibadan over a period of four months between November 2011 and February 2012. Studies were carried out at four selected stations comprising station 1 as the entry point of the stream into the University, which also served as the control, station 2 receiving sewage, station 3 downstream along the stream and at a point along Awba Reservoir serving as station 4. 1 ml aliquot of each plankton sample from the study stations were examined under a binocular microscope while identification of the plankton was carried out using standard textbooks. The results of the phytoplankton indicated the absence of Microcystis flos-aquae, Agmenellum and Oscillatoria limnetica in station 1 while members of the family bacillariophyceae appeared at all stations. All species of chlorophyceae family except Spirogyra were peculiarly absent at station 2. Other phytoplankton representatives at this point (station 2) included Microcystis, Anabaena, Oscillatoria and Melosira. Paramecium was the only zooplankton group that was absent in station 1 but the only species presented in station 2. This station also revealed the lowest diversity indices and very low or no Jaccards coefficient of similarity with the other stations. The overall differences observed in the abundance, species richness, Margalef and Shannon-Wiener indices of diversity of plankton in the study reveal self purification or recovery downstream from the effluent discharge.

The ease of availability and potential tendency to abuse tramadol hydrochloride prompted this research. Making use of biochemical and histological techniques, concentrations of marker enzymes were monitored along with alterations in the liver architecture of wistar albino rats in graded doses of tramadol hydrochloride for 28 days. Specifically, levels of gammaglutamyltransferase (-GT), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) were determined. Statistical evaluation of the results at a p < 0.05 elucidated significantly elevated values of these enzymes when compared with controls that were not on tramadol hydrochloride. The variations were time and dose dependent. Histological evaluation presented various degrees of inflammatory cells of the liver, cytolysis in hepatocytes and some portal tract hypertrophy. These findings support the need for caution in administration of tramadol particularly for long term administration.

Cardiovascular diseases are the origin of many causes of death worldwide. They impose on practitioners optimal diagnostic methods such as telemedicine in order to be able to quickly detect anomalies for daily care and monitoring of patients. The Electrocardiogram (ECG) is an examination that can detect abnormal functioning of the heart and generates a large number of digital data which can be stored or transmitted for further analysis. For storage or transmission purposes, one of the challenges is to reduce the space occupied by ECG signal and for that, it is important to offer more and more efficient algorithms capable of achieving high compression rates, while offering a good quality of reconstruction in a relatively short time. We propose in this paper a new ECG compression scheme that is based on a subset of signal splitting and 2D processing, the wavelet transform (DWT) and SPIHT coding which has proved their worth in the field of signal processing and compression. They are exploited for decorrelation and coding of the signal. The results obtained are significant and offer many perspectives.

Propagation models are the foundation for radio planning in mobile networks. They are widely used during feasibility studies and initial network deployment, or during network extensions, particularly in new cities. They can be used to calculate the power of the signal received by a mobile terminal, evaluate the coverage radius, and calculate the number of cells required to cover a given area. This paper takes into account the standard K factors model and then uses the Ion motion optimization (IMO) algorithm to set up a propagation model adapted to the physical environment of each of the Cameroonian cities of Yaoundé and Bertoua for different frequencies and technologies. Drive tests were made on the CDMA network in the city of Yaoundé on one hand and on an LTE TDD network in the city of Bertoua on the other hand. IMO is used as the optimization algorithm to deduct a propagation model which fits the environment of the two considered towns. The calculation of the root-mean-square error (RMSE) between the actual data from the drive tests and the prediction data from the implemented model allows the validation of the obtained results. A comparative study made between the RMSE value obtained by the new model and those obtained by the Okumura-Hata and K factors standard models, allowed us to conclude that the new model obtained in each of these two cities is better and more representative of our local environment than the Okumura-Hata currently implemented. The implementation shows that IMO can perform well and solve this kind of optimization problem;the newly obtained models can be used for radio planning in the cities of Yaounde and Bertoua in Cameroon.

Network planning is essential for the construction and the development of wireless networks. The network planning cannot be possible without an appropriate propagation model which in fact is its foundation. Initially used mainly for mobile radio networks, the optimization of propagation model is becoming essential for efficient deployment of the network in different types of environment, namely rural, suburban and urban especially with the emergence of concepts such as digital terrestrial television, smart cities, Internet of Things (IoT) with wide deployment for different use cases such as smart grid, smart metering of electricity, gas and water. In this paper we use an optimization algorithm that is inspired by the principles of magnetic field theory namely Magnetic Optimization Algorithm (MOA) to tune COST231-Hata propagation model. The dataset used is the result of drive tests carry out on field in the town of Limbe in Cameroon. We take into account the standard K-factor model and then use the MOA algorithm in order to set up a propagation model adapted to the physical environment of a town. The town of Limbe is used as an implementation case, but the proposed method can be used everywhere. The calculation of the root mean square error (RMSE) between the real data from the radio measurements and the prediction data obtained after the implementation of MOA allows the validation of the results. A comparative study between the value of the RMSE obtained by the new model and those obtained by the optimization using linear regression, by the standard COST231-Hata models, and the free space model is also done, this allows us to conclude that the new model obtained using MOA for the city of Limbe is better and more representative of this local environment than the standard COST231-Hata model. The new model obtained can be used for radio planning in the city of Limbé in Cameroon.

Evidence of Renal Damage in HIV-Infected Patients with High CD4 Counts Following the Use of Traditional Medicine

Kidney dysfunction is one of the most serious complications resulting from the use of traditional medicine which is common in Africa accounting for about 35% of renal damage in HIV-infected patients. In this cross sectional study, 250 HIV-infected patients were groups as follows: ART GrpA (100), ART + traditional medicine use GrpB (100) and ART treatment naïve + traditional medicine GrpC (50). Tubular dysfunctions were defined when at least two or more of the following abnormalities were repeatedly present: Uricosuria ≥ 0.05 mg/dl, Phosphaturia ≥ 20.0 mg/dl, Glucosuria ≥ 0.1 mg/dl, Proteinuria = positive protein on dipstick urine. Renal dysfunctions were found to be significantly high (P = 0.001) in the group of patients treated with ART + traditional medicine. 27 (64.29%) patients followed by ART treatment naïve patients + traditional medicine;12 (28.57%) patients and only 4 (7.14%) patients developed renal toxicity in the ART treatment Grp. But strikingly CD4 counts were also significantly higher in Grp B (683 cell/ul) compared to group A (446 cell/ul) and C (206 cell/ul). Our results show that HIV-infected patients on ART combined with traditional medicine might develop renal abnormalities in the presence of high CD4 counts, in the course of incessant use of traditional medicine. Thus it is important that more research be conducted on its usage among the Black population with HIV infection.

Modeling of a DVB-S2 Transmission Chain with Optimization of Adjustment Parameters for a Good Quality of the Reception Signal

Digital television is part of our daily lives. We took an interest in the DVB-S2 standard in particular, because it is the one that governs the transmission by satellite of multimedia content from television programs. With ever-changing user needs, there are new challenges that the DVB-S2 standard is no longer able to meet due to errors caused by weather and hardware limitations. The main purpose of a satellite TV transmission is to obtain a video signal in reception of the best possible quality and at a high bit rate. It is therefore important to determine all the factors which could intervene in the process of transmission and which have a negative impact on the yield at the reception of the signal. We therefore designed and simulated the DVB-S and DVB-S2 transmission chains with QPSK modulation (and an FEC coding rate of 1/2), on MATLAB software (Simulink), and with an AWGN channel for the sake of comparison performance between these two chains. Then we carried out the design of the DVB-S2 transmission chain with an RF (Radio Frequency) satellite channel, by materializing all the elements which intervene in the downlink to evaluate the performance of this chain according to the factors which influence and/or degrade the signal quality between transmission and reception at the receiving earth station. The main results obtained relate to the DVB-S2 transmission chain and were interpreted using the visualization of the error rate blocks: With an AWGN channel, increasing the signal-to-noise ratio decreases the rate of erroneous packets and therefore improves the quality of the received signal. With an RF satellite channel on the downlink: increasing the transmit power improves the receive performance, this is useful for correcting most RF imperfections;having larger parabolic antennas is an advantage because they have greater gains;this makes it possible to minimize the rate of erroneous packets.
