Increasing studies of plastisphere have raised public concern about microplastics(mPs)as vectors for pathogens,especially in aquatic ***,the extent to which pathogens affect human health through mPs remains unclear,as controversies persist regarding the distinct pathogen colonization on mPs as well as the transmission routes and infection probability of mP-associated pathogens from water to *** this review,we critically discuss whether and how pathogens approach humans via mPs,shedding light on the potential health risks *** on cutting-edge multidisciplinary research,we show that some mPs may facilitate the growth and long-range transmission of specific pathogens in aquatic environments,ultimately increasing the risk of infection in *** identify mP-and pathogen-rich settings,such as wastewater treatment plants,aquaculture farms,and swimming pools,as possible sites for human exposure to mP-associated *** review emphasizes the need for further research and targeted interventions to better understand and mitigate the potential health risks associated with mP-mediated pathogen transmission.

Protein misfolding neurodegenerative diseases arisethrough neurotoxicity induced by aggregation of host proteins. These conditions include Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, Parkinson's disease, motor neuron disease, tauopathies and prion diseases. collectively, these conditions are a challenge to society because of the increasing aged population and through the real threat to human food security by animal prion diseases. It is therefore important to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie protein misfolding--induced neurotoxicity as this will form the basis for designing strategies to alleviate their burden. Prion diseases are an important paradigm for neurodegenerative conditions in general since several of these maladies have now been shown to display prion--like phenomena. Increasingly, cell cycle activity and the DNA damage response are recognised as cellular events that participate in the neurotoxic process of various neurodegenerative diseases, and their associated animal models, which suggests they are truly involved in the pathogenic process and are not merely epiphenomena. Here we review the role of cell cycle activity and the DNA damage response in neurodegeneration associated with protein misfolding diseases, and suggest that these events contribute towards prion--induced neurotoxicity. In doing so, we highlight PrP transgenic Drosophila as a tractable model for the genetic analysis of transmissible mammalian prion disease.

we have previously evaluated asbestos exposure associated with various maintenance procedures on light aircraft. The purpose of this study was to evaluate asbestos exposure during engine maintenance on light aircraft. This test was designed to evaluate the potential for asbestos exposure to mechanics and others who remove asbestos-containing engine gaskets from reciprocating style aircraft engines. Utilized in this test was an air cooled, horizontally opposed, aviation gasoline burning engine, assembled during 1986 and operated intermittently up into 2015, having accumulated 1680 hours run time. Nearly 75% of the asbestos-containing gaskets installed during 1986 were still in place at the time of testing. chrysotile asbestos contents of such gaskets ranged from 55% to 60% by area, for those of sheet style and 5% by area, for the spiral wound metal/asbestos style. Despite the levels of effort required to effect gasket removals, the professional aircraft mechanic was not exposed to airborne asbestos fibers at the lower limits of sampling and analytical detection achieved;all of which were substantially less than the current Occupational Safety and Health Administration Permissible Exposure Limits for asbestos. The results of this testing indicate an absence of gasket related asbestos exposure risk to mechanics who work with light aircraft engines, including those having asbestos-containing gaskets. These results are consistent with the findings of mlyarek and Van Orden who studied the asbestos exposure risk occasioned during overhaul of larger radial style reciprocating aircraft engines [1].

Reliable and basic information on fish are required for the sustainable management of a fishery. For this reason, the fish fauna of the future reservoir of Ouessa in the low section of the mouhoun River, Burkina Faso is studied. In order to describe the fish community, the fish were sampled in march 2020 thanks to cast nets and gill nets. They were sorted into species and each fish was weighted at the nearest 0.1 g and its total length measured at the nearest mm. The landings of commercial fishermen were also observed. In total, 1059 fishes were collected and grouped into 42 species, 27 generas and 16 families. The dominant species were Synodontis nigrita, Synodontis schall, marcusenius senegalensis, Schilbe intermedius, Brycinus nurse and Alestes baremoze. However, the compilation of diverse sources suggests the presence of nearly 70 species. The index of Shannon-weaver (3.97), the values of the condition factor, the fish size and the presence of intolerant species indicate the relatively good conditions of the aquatic ecosystem. Among the 24 dominant species, 54% have a positive allometric growth, 42% a negative allometric growth and 0.04 an isometric growth. This study builds the basis of sustainable management of the future reservoir of Ouessa that is planned to be the largest one of the country (40,000 ha large).

The wear patterns for drum-style automotive brakes tend to enlarge internal drum diameters. Such enlargement is most profound when used brake drums are machined to restore the metal friction surfaces. Specialized arc grinding machinery has been used to match replacement shoe-style brake friction materials to enlarged drums. The process of arc grinding removes friction material, thereby producing dust. when organic-style friction materials contained asbestos, use of arc grinding machinery posed an asbestos fiber exposure risk to operators and proximate personnel. The manufacturers of arc grinding machinery have incorporated local exhaust ventilation systems designed to capture and remove this dust at the point of grinding contact and propel this dust into collection bags or other systems. This research was designed to evaluate the dust capture and retention characteristics of a specific arc grinder product, when used to custom grind asbestos-containing brake friction materials. A Bear model 1420 automotive brake shoe arc grinder was the subject of this study. During two separate but consecutive test sessions, newly relined sets of shoe-style automobile brake friction materials were precision ground. Both area and personal air samples were collected throughout each testing session. This work took place within a closed and unventilated metal building, with total interior volume of 2500 m3. collected air samples were analyzed using phase contrast microscopy (Pcm) and transmission electron microscopy (TEm). The results of analysis using Pcm for personal samples (n = 6) ranged from cc (f/cc) (mean 0.05). Follow-up analysis of these personal samples using TEm indicated asbestos-adjusted Pcm exposures ranging from cc (mean ≤ 0.041). Area air samples, taken at distances ranging from 1.5 to 9 meters from the arc grinder (n = 12), showed asbestos-adjusted Pcm concentrations ranging from cc (mean ≤ 0.01

The set of proteins required for mitotic division remains poorly characterized. Here, an extensive series of correlation analyses of human and mouse transcriptomics data were performed to identify genes strongly and reproducibly associated with cells undergoing S/G2-m phases of the cell cycle. In so doing, 701 cell cycle-associated genes were defined and while it was shown that many are only expressed during these phases, the expression of others is also driven by alternative promoters. Of this list, 496 genes have known cell cycle functions, whereas 205 were assigned as putative cell cycle genes, 53 of which are functionally uncharacterized. Among these, 27 were screened for subcellular localization revealing many to be nuclear localized and at least three to be novel centrosomal proteins. Furthermore, 10 others inhibited cell proliferation upon siRNA knockdown. This study presents the first comprehensive list of human cell cycle proteins, identifying many new candidate proteins.

The class A scavenger receptor(SR - A) is a macrophage - restricted trimeric membrane giycopro-tein for which a number of activities have been ascribed. The mature receptor is transported from the Golgi apparatus to the cell surface where it can mediate the binding and uptake of a number of specific ligands, including modified forms of low - density lipoprotein. Evidence suggests it plays a crucial role in atherogenesis. we have investigated the effects of the modulation of N - glycan processing on SR - A expression, distribution and activity in the macrophage cell line RAw264.7.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to assess velocity-encoded cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (Ve-cmR) in a population of patients referred for cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (cmR), to determine the variability of atrial function, and to identify clinical parameters associated with left atrial function. methods: This is a prospective study evaluating patients who were referred to our cmR center for a clinical cmR. Left atrial function was obtained via Ve-cmR thru-plane images across the mitral valve after acquiring 2 perpendicular in-plane images as “scouts”. The atrial function and mitral inflow were quantified by computer analysis (Argus, Siemens). Atrial function was defined as atrial contraction (A-wave) volume divided by total inflow volume. Left atrial volumes were calculated via computer analysis. mitral regurgitation and left ventricular ejection fractions were assessed visually. Results: Thirty-nine patients, with mean age 56 +/- 10 years, were enrolled. The mean left atrial function was 22.9% +/-14.5%;the range in left atrial function was 0% - 57%. There was a significant positive correlation between atrial function and increased left ventricular ejection fraction (r = 0.44, P was a significant negative correlation between atrial function and severity of mitral regurgitation (r = -0.60, P well as left atrial volume (r = -0.36, P = 0.02). conclusion: Our results indicate a wide variability in left atrial function and a significant association between left atrial function and left ventricular ejection fraction, left atrial volume and mitral regurgitation.
