Aims Human land use such as agriculture and logging can have cascad-ing effects on the environment and severely influence forest eco-systems by altering structure,species composition and community *** activities may have long-term consequences,which impact forest *** investigated the legacy of his-torical anthropogenic land use on the current reproductive effort(RE)and success of the understory,myco-heterotrophic orchid,Wullschlaegelia calcarata in Puerto Rico’s tropical rain forest after 80 years of forest *** Our study site was the 16-ha luquillo Forest Dynamics Plot in the luquillo Experimental *** used six 10 m×500 m transect lines that spanned areas with differing levels of historic canopy coverage which are correlated with land use *** recorded the abundance of *** plants and measured shoot height,number of flowers,fruit set for all plants and seed set from the most mature,undehisced fruit on a random subset of plants *** sought to determine whether or not there is a legacy of land use history on the RE and success of *** the varying degrees of historic disturbance,we predicted that RE and success would be highest in minimally disturbed old-growth forest,and that soil type differences would be insufficient to affect RE or *** Findings We found 1607 plants of ***,and only one was detected in the most historically disturbed area of the *** orchids were most abundant in the two least historically disturbed ***,the prevailing trend in all measures of RE is in the opposite direction with greater RE in the forest plots with intermediate levels of histori-cal ***,the best model(as a function of AICc and weights)to predict RE is a combination of soil type and cover ***,our measures of reproductive success(fruit and seed set)were best in the least historically disturbed sites and were not associated with soil ***,the b

粉末冶金零件烧结后往往面要切削加工 ,以达到压制时无法成形的设计特征或窄小的尺寸公差。可是 ,随着高性能材料出现 ,鉴于这些材料烧结后表观硬度与强度高 ,采用生坯切削加工可减低切削加工费用与增强竞争性 ,因此 ,是一种很有吸引力的生产工艺。现在 ,采用新润滑系统可使零件在烧结前进行切削加工 ,这些新润滑系统和常用润滑剂相比 ,都是一些能大大增高零件生坯强度的聚合物润滑剂。在切削加工时 ,较高的生坯强度可减低生坯开裂和 /或棱边剥落的危险这篇论文对由新聚合物润滑系统或常用EBS蜡润滑剂压制的烧结硬化材料FlC - 4 6 0 8的脱模特性与生坯特性进行了比较。这种比较是用实验室与生产规模压机压制成形的密度为 6 7～ 7 1g/cm3 的横向断裂试样和油泵齿轮进行的。还报告了油泵齿轮烧结后的性能和零件间性能的均一性。

Since 2019 humanity has been subjected to the perturbations of pandemic,economic disruption,war,civil unrest and changes in whole-Earth dynamics associated with a human-induced *** perturbation is like a wave-front breaking on the shore of our historical ways of thinking and acting,increasingly unfit for our human *** challenge to humanity is not *** 1970 the French term‘problematique’was coined to refer to a set of 49 interrelated global problems;the classic description of wicked and tame problems was published soon after,yet little progress has been made towards answering the question:what purposeful action will aid human flourishing,create and sustain a viable space for humanity,in our ongoing co-evolution with the Anthropocene-Biosphere?A case for innovation in our ways of knowing and doing is made based on arguments that our social world is constrained by:(i)explanations we accept that are no longer relevant to our circumstances;(ii)outdated historical institutions(in the institutional economics sense)that contribute as social technologies to a broader human created and ungoverned technosphere;(iii)inadequate theory-informed practices,or praxis,and(iv)governance-systems no longer adequate for *** of knowledge science and systems science are urged to act reflexively to critically evaluate the traditions-of-understanding out of which they think and act.

Prevalence of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in Puerto Rico: A Study from 2016 to 2021

Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a temporary form of insulin resistance during pregnancy and is linked to adverse outcomes for both mothers and offspring. Maternal risks include an increased prevalence of pre-eclampsia, cesarean delivery, and the development of type 2 diabetes within five to ten years post-delivery. For offspring, exposure to elevated maternal glucose levels is associated with macrosomia. A significant challenge in evaluating the prevalence of GDM in Puerto Rico is the lack of recent research quantifying this condition in pregnant women living in Puerto Rico. Objective: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus from 2016 to 2021 by analyzing data collected by Puerto Rico’s Department of Health. Methods: We obtained publicly accessible data from the Division of Children, Mothers, and Adolescents from Puerto Rico’s Department of Health to estimate the prevalence of GDM across the island. Additionally, we correlated the prevalence with socioeconomic, educational, and demographic variables using beta regression models to assess their significance. Results: The prevalence of GDM ranged from 3.2% to 4.5% for the six years studied, with an average prevalence of 3.68%. Regression analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between maternal age and educational level. Higher educational attainment was associated with a reduced risk of GDM, while increasing maternal age was linked to a higher prevalence of the condition. Conclusion: This statistical analysis provides evidence of a steady increase in the prevalence of GDM in Puerto Rico from 2016 to 2021, highlighting the importance of ongoing surveillance and specific interventions to mitigate risk factors.

The whole day matters: Understanding 24-hour movement guideline adherence and relationships with health indicators across the lifespan

A CK2-RNF4 interplay coordinates non-canonical SUMOylation and degradation of nuclear receptor FXR

Farnesoid X receptor （FXR） is a ligand-activated nuclear receptor that plays a central role in regulating genes involved in bile acid homeostasis, and fat and glucose metabolism. Here, we demonstrate a post-translational interplay between FXR phosphoryl- ation, SUMOylation, and ubiquitination that directs the receptor into an activation-degradation pathway in hepatocytes. We iden- tify a non-canonical SUMOylation motif termed pSuM that conjugates SUM02 at lys-325 of FXR under the direct control of casein kinase 2 （CK2）, which provides the required negative charge for Ubc9 and PIAS1 to perform SUMOylation, by phosphorylating Ser-327. lys-325 SUMOylation is indispensable to the promotion of efficient ligand activation and transcriptional coactivation of FXR. Constitutive pSuM activation using a phospho-mimic Ser-327 mutant or catalytic CK2 expression strongly induces SUM02 conjugation, which directs FXR ubiquitination and proteasome-dependent degradation. We also determine that such SUMOylation-dependent ubiquitination of FXR is mediated by the E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF4, which is required to achieve maximal induction of FXR and optimal up- or downregulation of responsive genes involved in bile acid homeostasis and liver regeneration. Our findings identify a highly regulated atypical SUMO conjugation motif that serves to coordinate FXR transcriptional compe- tence, thereby expanding the intricate dynamics of the SUMOylation process used by incoming signals to govern metabolic gene regulation.
