The mechanical constraints in the overcrowding glioblastoma(GBM)microenvironment have been implicated in the regulation of tumor heterogeneity and disease ***,such mechanical cues can alter cellular DNA transcription and give rise to a subpopulation of tumor cells called cancer stem cells(CSCs).These CSCs with stem-like properties are critical drivers of tumorigenesis,metastasis,and treatment ***,the biophysical and molecular machinery underlying the emergence of CSCs in tumor remained *** work employed a two-dimensional micropatterned multicellular model to examine the impact of mechanical constraints arisen from geometric confinement on the emergence and spatial patterning of CSCs in GBM *** study identified distinct spatial distributions of GBM CSCs in different geometric patterns,where CSCs mostly emerged in the peripheral *** spatial pattern of CSCs was found to correspond to the gradients of mechanical stresses resulted from the interplay between the cell-ECM and cell–cell interactions within the confined *** mechanistic study highlighted a Piezo1-RhoA-focal adhesion signaling axis in regulating GBM cell mechanosensing and the subsequent CSC phenotypic *** findings provide new insights into the biophysical origin of the unique spatial pattern of CSCs in GBM tumor and offer potential avenues for targeted therapeutic interventions.

A novel input and sensing system - the Micro Input Devices System (MIDS) is under development by merging MEMS sensors and existing wireless technologies. Previously,we have demonstrated MIDS to be applicable as a new form of humancomputer interface to potentially replace the mouse, keyboard, and light-pen. we have also shown that MIDS can be used as a generalized wireless distributed sensing system and successfully utilized it to measure the motion of the fingers of a robotic hand under manipulation. In this paper, we will present our recent results on using MIDS for grasping motion control of robotic hands. MIDS acts as a human-robot-interface that is used to detect and transduce an operator’s finger motion to control a five-finger robotic hand to perform grasping motion. Experimental results indicate that MIDS is capable of obtaining real-time acceleration signals and tilt angle data for the operator’s fingers. with the PD control algorithm, the robotic finger angles (measured by the joint angle sensors) tracked the angle data from MIDS, and hence, allowing the operator to control the robotic hand manipulator wirelessly using his own arm and finger motion.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) represent a public health problem due to their high prevalence worldwide and the emergence of multidrug resistance of responsible microorganisms. Medical laboratory diagnosis of sexually transmitted genital infections by traditional methods as culture remains extremely delicate, difficult or impossible (to find extremely fragile organisms that can be cultured). Thus, molecular techniques constitute an alternative to improve accurate diagnostic, personalized patient treatment, and public health. A total of 83 clinical samples including urethral discharge and urine samples from individual patients with symptoms of urethritis received were analyzed using traditional methods and a commercial real-time PCR (qPCR) method. Out of 83 urethritis patients, n = 55 (66.26%) were positive for at least one of the STI pathogens detected by qPCR. qPCR assay was more sensitive (50/83, positive cases) compared to culture (15/83, positive cases) and light microscopy (28/83, positive cases). The most prevalent NTD pathogen in the suspected patients was N. gonorrhoeae with 60.24% (50/83) based on real-time PCR diagnosis. Among the positive cases of STI pathogens, Neisseria gonorrhoeae had the highest frequency 49/55 (89.01%) followed by low frequencies of Trichomonas vaginalis 4/55 (7.27%) and Chlamydia trachomatis 1/55 (1.82%). This highlights the high prevalence of N. gonorrhoeae infection in male urethritis patients and a very important misdiagnosis using traditional routine methods in Burkina Faso by medical laboratories. Thus, this situation may negatively impact patients’ personalized treatment and care and public health with the possible rapid emergence of multidrug-resistant strains. This study also highlights the urgent need to optimize culture for the diagnosis of NTD pathogens in Burkina Faso and the usefulness and the need for the introduction of molecular diagnostic methods in routine diagnosis for the detection of NTD pathogens in the

Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a bacterial pathogen for humans and animals. These bacteria can resist against many antibiotics and this resistance constitute an alarming worldwide human health threat due to the morbidity and mortality. Phage therapy is one of the alternative treatments. The aim of this study was to isolate and characterize lytic phages of S. aureus from different wastewater sources in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. Eight strains of S. aureus were isolated from different clinical samples and were used to isolate phages. The isolation and host range of phages were done by the spot test. Phages were purified by the double-layer method. Similar phages after the determination of the host range were characterized using restriction enzymes. A total of 27 phages were obtained after isolation and purification. Nine of the 27 isolates reported a broad host range (≥67%). The results of enzymatic digestion allowed to consider that all phage isolates that presented the same host range and the same genetic fingerprint are the same phage strain;whereas phages that presented the same host range and different genetic fingerprints are different phage strains. Thus, a total of 15 distinct phages isolates specific to S. aureus were characterized. This study highlighted the abundance and lytic capacity of phages isolated from wastewater from Bobo-Dioulasso’s environment against clinical strains of S. aureus. The lytic capacity of these Staphyphages could be an effective alternative tool to combat bacteria multi-resistance.

Preparation and Characterization of Clay Soils for Applications in Cyanide Removal from Mining wastewater

In Burkina Faso, water resources in mining areas are polluted by cyanide, which is released into the environment through mining activities. To mitigate this pollution, two clays named Koro and Kaya were collected in Burkina Faso and characterized using analytical technics. This work aimed to find out a cheap technology based on local soils for water treatment. The objective of the work was to prepare and characterize two local clays for application in mining effluent treatment. Specific surface area and pore dimensions were analyzed using Brunauer, Emmett and Teller method. In addition, anion exchange capacities, chemical composition through X-ray fluorescence and chemical functions by Fourier-transformed Infrared spectroscopy were determined. Mineralogical composition, thermal behavior, microstructure, and surface elemental composition of clays were examined using techniques of X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive spectroscopy. Results showed that the surface areas of two anionic clays were 64 m2/g and 50 m2/g for Koro and Kaya, respectively. An anion exchange capacity of 126.68 cmol/kg for Koro and 125.13 cmol/kg at ph 11 was found. Chemical and mineralogical analysis showed that the clays were rich in minerals, mainly of illite (24 - 27)%, montmorillonite (23 - 24)% and kaolinite (17 - 26)%, orthosis (9 - 13)%, quartz (5 - 12)%, goethite (3 - 6)% and anorthite (2 - 6)%. Application of clays for the treatment of cyanide solution led to a decrease in intensities of chemical functions and a modification of the surface morphology. Consequently, those clay soils can be used as adsorbents in cyanide removal through column and batch experiments.

The Strengths and weaknesses of Conceptual Metaphor Theory： A View from Cognitive Science
