Background: Parkinson’s disease（PD） is the second most common neurodegenerative disease. Increasing evidence has demonstrated that neuroinflammation is a prominent pathological hallmark of PD. Based on this, modulation of inflammation in the brain can be offered as one of the therapeutic approach to control neuronal damage in PD. Objective: The purpose of this study was to study the effect of the brain preconditioning with single low dose of LPS on inflammatory profile in 6-OHDA model of PD. Methods: Before administration of 6-OHDA, animals in preconditioning group was pretreated with low dose of LPS, while vehicle group rats were preconditioned with normal saline. To clarify the neuroprotective effect of single brain LPS preconditioning, motor coordination and balance were evaluated using rotarod. In addition, the effect of the LPS preconditioning on neuronal damage were observed in the substantia nigra by using nissl staining. Finally, gene and protein expressions associated with different cascades induced by LPS preconditioning including TLR4 and inflammatory signaling pathways were analyzed using RT-PCR and Western Blot. Results: Based on the behavioral assessments, preconditioned animals performed significantly better on the behavioral performance compared to the vehicle group. Furthermore, neuroprotective effect of brain LPS preconditioning were consistent with the histological observation. In addition, our result showed that the brain LPS preconditioning reduced inflammatory response in the brain of PD rat by enhancing NFκB inhibitors and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Conclusion: Generally, reduction in inflammatory response through the brain LPS preconditioning may contribute to the induction of tolerance to neuronal damage in PD. This neuroprotection parallel the reprogramming strategy that leads to the synthesis of new markers to change molecular response against brain lesions. A Comparison Study of Rectifier Designs for 2.45 GHz EM Energy Harvesting

Energy harvesting is a rapidly growing area in many scientific and engineering-related fields due to the demand for many applications. This paper focuses on the design and simulation of the voltage doubler rectifier circuit at 2.45 GHz operating frequency. The design of a rectifier is optimized based on the use of Schottky diode HSMS 286 B due to its low forward voltage at this frequency. 2 stages of the Schottky diode voltage doublers circuit are designed and simulated in this paper. The shunt capacitor and optimal load resistance are also introduced in the course to reduce signal loss. A multi-stage rectifier is used to produce maximum power conversion from AC to DC. The simulated results present that the maximum output voltage of 6.651 V with an input power of 25 dBm is produced, which presents a maximum power conversion efficiency of 73.13%, which applicable in small device applications.

This paper examines the long-and short-run dynamics of asymmetric adjustment between the nominal exchange rate and commodity prices,namely oil,palm oil,rubber,and natural gas prices,in Malaysia using monthly data from January 1994 to December *** relationship between exchange rate and each commodity price is examined in terms of Engle-Granger and threshold *** estimated results provide evidence of long-run threshold cointegration and show that the adjustments towards the long-run equilibrium position are asymmetric in the short ***,this study finds evidence of a unidirectional causal relationship running from the nominal exchange rate to oil price in the long and short run using a spectral frequency domain causality *** is also empirical evidence of bidirectional causality between the nominal exchange rate and palm oil price,rubber price,and natural gas price in the long and short ***,the findings have significant implications for the current debate on the future of primary commodities in Malaysia.

Critical role of SDF-1/CXCR4 signaling pathway in stem cell homing in the deafened rat cochlea after acoustic trauma

Previous animal studies have shown that stromal cell-derived factor-1 （SDF-1）/CXC chemokine receptor-4 （CXCR4） signaling pathway plays an important role in the targeted migration of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells （BMSCs） to the injured area. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the potential role of chemotactic SDF-1/CXCR4 signaling pathway in the homing of transplanted BMSCs to the injured cochlea after noise-induced hearing loss （NIHL） in a rat model. White noise exposure （110 dB） paradigm was used for hearing loss induction in male rats for 6 hours in 5 days. Distortion-product otoacoustic emission （DPOAE） responses were recorded before the experiment and post noise *** 33342-labeled BMSCs and CXCR4 antagonist （AMD3100）-treated BMSCs were injected into the rat cochlea through the round window. SDF-1 protein expression in the cochlear tissue was assayed using western blot assay. The number of labeled BMSCs reaching the endolymph was determined after 24 ***-1 was significantly increased in the cochlear tissue of rats in the noise exposure group than in the control group. The number of Hoechst 33342-labeled BMSCs reaching the endolymph of the cochlea was significantly smaller in the AMD3100-treated BMSCs group than in the normal BMSCs group. Our present findings suggest that the SDF-1/CXCR4 signaling pathway has a critical role in BMSCs migration to the injured cochlea in a rat model of noise-induced hearing loss.

Human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) may result in devastating multi-organ complications, including cirrhosis. Consequently, liver transplantation is often required for these patients. We report a case of a 43-year-old female with cryptogenic cirrhosis and HIV on highly active antiretroviral therapy, presenting for non-related living donor liver transplantation. The intraoperative course was complicated by hepatic artery and portal vein thrombosis, requiring thrombectomy. On postoperative day-3, the patient required retransplantation with a cadaveric donor organ due to primary graft failure.

Isolated small bowel transplantation outcomes and the impact of immunosuppressants: Experience of a single transplant center

AIM: To investigate patient and graft outcomes in isolated small bowel transplant(SBTx) recipients and immunosuppressant induction agent impact on ***: A retrospective review of the perioperative data of patients who underwent SBTx transplant during an 8-year period was conducted. The intraoperative data were: patient demographics, etiology of short gut syndrome, hemodynamic parameters, coagulation profiles, intraoperative fluid and blood products transfused, and development of post-reperfusion. The postoperative data were: hospital/intensive care unit stays, duration of mechanical ventilation, postoperative incidence of acute kidney injury, and 1-year patient and graft outcomes. The effects of the three immunosuppressant induction agents(Zenapax, Thymoglobulin, Campath) on patient and graft outcomes were ***: During the 8-year period there were 77 patients; 1-year patient and graft survival were 95% and 86% respectively. Sixteen patients received Zenapax, 22 received Thymoglobulin, and 39 received Campath without effects on patient or graft survival(P = 0.90, P = 0.14, respectively). The use of different immune induction agents did not affect the incidence of rejection and infection during the first 90 postoperative days(P = 0.072, P = 0.29, respectively). The Zenapax group received more intraoperative fluid and blood products and were coagulopathic at the end of surgery. Zenapax and Thymoglobulin significantly increased serum creatinine at 48 h(P = 0.023) and 1 wk(P = 0.001) post-transplant, but none developed renal failure or required dialysis at the end of the first ***: One-year patient and graft survival were 95% and 86%, respectively. The use of different immunosuppressant induction agents may affect the intraoperative course and short-term postoperative morbidities, but not 1-year patient and graft outcomes.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.
