Disaster Risk Reduction Including Climate Change Adaptation Over South Asia: Challenges and Ways Forward

South Asia is vulnerable to a variety of hydrometeorological hazards, which are often crossboundary in nature. Climate change is expected to influence many of these hazards. Thus, climate-related risks over South Asia make disaster risk reduction(DRR) and climate change adaptation(CCA) key policy *** there is an increasing consensus that DRR including CCA should be embedded in development planning. Disaster risk reduction including CCA has progressively gained importance in global governance. Across South Asia, however, such integration is only in a preliminary stage. This review was to assess the existing status and scope of DRR including CCA in development projects across South Asia, so that an effective and achievable deliberation may be made to regional policymakers. A total of 371 projects relevant to CCA and DRR were *** project inventory was diverse in nature with respect to location, scale, sectoral focus, and strategic ***, India, and Bhutan were observed to be proactive in implementing DRR-and CCA-related ***-analysis of the project inventory suggests an urgent need for an individual and collaborative convergence of processes for DRR and CCA through policies,plans, strategies, and programs.

Lignin: Renewable Raw Material for Adhesive

Biobased raw material like lignin used during manufacturing of wood and wood composite adhesive have been used extensively to replaced petro-chemical based adhesive because of their easy availability, low cost and biodegradability. Bio-based resources, such as lignin which is an abundant, constitute a rich source of hydroxyl functionality which is being considered as reactive raw material for the production of “adhesives”. Lignin is mainly used for production of wood and wood composite adhesives by blending with soy protein, grafting with another polymer and reacting with isocynates. In this review, lignin as suitable alternative raw material to conventional petroleum sourced materials used as a raw material for adhesives is discussed.

Recycling and Disposal Methods for Polyurethane Wastes: A Review

Polyurethanes (PU) are a general class of polymers prepared by the polyaddition of isocyanates and hydroxyl group containing compounds. PU foams are formed via the reaction of poly-isocyanate and multi-functional hydroxyl compounds resulting in urethane linkages. The foams are formed in wide range of densities and maybe flexible, semi-flexible or rigid in structure. To control the foam structure, blowing agents are employed. These agents are introduced during foam formation through volatilization of low-boiling liquids or through the formation of gas due to chemical reaction. Additionally, surfactants, catalysts, etc. are used during the manufacturing of foams. PU, including PU foams, is one of the most important groups of materials today and hence, their recycling has been of great interest. Many methods of recycling PU are available and many more are being studied further. However, no method has seen large scale commercialization or is brought into regular practice. The objective of this review is to bring to light the various technologies available and their current status of development as well as newer upcoming methods that may be available in the future.

Composite pheochromocytoma masquerading as solidpseudopapillary neoplasm of pancreas

Pheochromocytoma and ganglioneuroma form rare composite tumours of the adrenal medulla comprising less than 3% of all sympathoadrenal tumours. We present a case of intraoperatively detected adrenal medullary tumour of composite pheochromocytoma and ganglioneuroma diagnosed on histopathology, in a normotensive patient. A 50-year-old male with a past history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease presented with abdominal pain and significant weight loss since one month. Ultrasound and contrast-enhanced computed tomography abdomen revealed a large lobulated lesion in the distal body and tail of pancreas suggestive of solid and papillary neoplasm of body and tail of pancreas. Intra-operatively, a 15 cm × 10 cm solid lesion with cystic areas was seen arising from the left lower pole of the adrenal gland pushing the pancreas which appeared unremarkable. In our case, exploratory laparotomy with tumour excision was done. Extensive sectioning and microscopic examination of this adrenal tumour confirmed a diagnosis of composite Pheochromocytoma with Ganglioneuroma on histopathology. Immunophenotyping with S-100 further supported the diagnosis. The goal of this report is to increase the awareness of this rare disease and to further identify its variable presentation.
