A pot culture experiment was carried out to study th. interaction of Melodogyne incognita and Fusarium ch.amydosporurn on Coleus forskoh.ii. Th. nematode multiplication was adversely affected wh.n fungus was inoculated prior to nematode. Simultaneous inoculation of nematode and fungus as well as nematode followed by fungus seven days later, caused 85.5 per cent root rot disease and significant reduction in plant growth.as well as nematode multiplication wh.n compared to th. inoculation fungus alone or fungus inoculation prior to nematode.

Th. aim of th. present study was to develop a novel turning process with.th. simultaneous application of two cutting tools in place of a single cutting tool during mach.ning of rotating surfaces. Th.s process is referred to as duplex turning, and is used to eliminate th. need for a secondary final cut operation following th. turning process. To ach.eve th.s, a secondary （auxiliary） tool post is mounted on th. cross slide of th. centre lath. mach.ne after fabrication. Th. secondary tool post is used to h.ld a secondary cutting tool th.t penetrates th. workpiece from opposite side of th. primary cutting tool to perform th. finish.cut operation during turn mach.ning of th. cylin- drical workpiece. Th. performance of th. developed process was tested on AISI 1040 alloy steel, using two single point cutting tools made of h.gh.speed steel. Th. effects of cutting velocity, feed rate, primary depth.of cut and secondary depth.of cut were analyzed and discussed with.regard to average surface rough.ess, and were also compared with.normal turning process. From th. results, it was concluded th.t duplex turning process was capable of providing better surface finish.s compared to th.se generated by normal turning. It was also found th.t h.gh.r cutting velocity yielded better surface finish.s with.n th. determined ranges of th. selected parameters.

Th. use of a lower sampling rate for designing a discrete-time state feedback-based controller fails to capture information of fast states in a two-time-scale system, wh.le th. use of a h.gh.r sampling rate increases th. amount of computation considerably. Th.s,th. use of single-rate sampling for systems with.slow and fast states h.s evident limitations. In th.s paper, multirate state feedback(MRSF) control for a linear time-invariant two-time-scale system is proposed. h.re, multirate sampling refers to th. sampling of slow and fast states at different sampling rates. Firstly, a block-triangular form of th. original continuous two-time-scale system is constructed. Th.n, it is discretized with.a smaller sampling period and feedback control is designed for th. fast subsystem. Later, th. system is block-diagonalized and equivalently represented into a system with.a h.gh.r sampling period. Subsequently, feedback control is designed for th. slow subsystem and overall MRSF control is derived. It is proved th.t th. derived MRSF control stabilizes th. full-order system. Being th. transformed states of th. original system, slow and fast states need to be estimated for th. MRSF control ***, a sequential two-stage observer is formulated to estimate th.se states. Finally, th. applicability of th. design meth.d is demonstrated with.a numerical example and simulation results are compared with.th. single-rate sampling meth.d. It is found th.t th. proposed MRSF control and observer designs reduce computations with.ut compromising closed-loop performance.

An economical route for th. scalable production of carbon nanofibers （CNFs） on a sodium ch.oride support h.s been developed. CNFs h.ve been synth.sized by ch.mical vapor deposition （CVD） meth.d by using metal formate as catalyst precursors at 680℃. Products were ch.racterized by SEM, TEM, Raman spectroscopy and XRD meth.d. By th.rmal analysis, th. purity of th. as grown products and purified products were determined. Th.s meth.d avoids calcination and reduction process wh.ch.was employed in commercial catalysts such.as metal oxide or nitrate. Th. problems such.as detrimental effect, environmental and even cost h.ve been overcome by using sodium ch.oride as support. Th. yield of CNFs up to 7800 wt.% relative to th. nickel catalyst h.s been ach.eved in th. growth.time of 15 min. Th. advantage of th.s synth.sis tech.ique is th. simplicity and use of easily available low cost precursors.

Th. effect of temperature on th. rate of development of Xyleborus fornicatus （Eich..） was determined by rearing individuals under a range of constant temperatures （15 - 32℃）. Rates of development ch.nged in a linear fash.on over a wide range of temperatures. Estimates of lower development th.esh.lds were obtained for eggs （15.7±0.5℃）, larvae （15.8±0.8℃） and pupae （14.3±1.4℃） and th. degree days （DD） for development were 70±4.4, 95±8.5 and 72±5.1 DD, respectively. Optimum temperature for development was around 30~C for all stages. Temperature fluctuation in cooler h.gh.Country areas （above 1400 m） with.a mean temperature around 15℃ seems to be critical for th. development of th. pest, wh.ch.may be responsible for th. near absence of pest in th.se areas. Temperature fluctuations （18- 30℃） in th. Mid Country region （600- 1200 m） favor th. development of th. pest compared to development under constant conditions. Th. altitudinal distribution of th. sh.t-h.le borer across tea growing areas in Sri Lanka is, th.refore, mainly governed by temperature.

Th. footbed simulator invented in recent years allows a range of parameters to be studied in quiet standing. It can be used to evaluate perceived feel and center of pressure ch.nges to ch.nges in h.el h.igh., seat length. material, wedge angle and toe spring. Th.s paper is meant to sh.w th. value of th. footbed simulator in terms of research.and th. actual production of sh.es. A study performed with.two h.el h.igh.s, th.ee combinations of seat length.and material and th.ee wedge angles sh.wed th.t th. perceived feel is closely related to th. center of pressure. Th. results also sh.w th. optimum footbed h.s a significantly different perceived feel. Th.s, th. footbed simulator is an ideal way to generate custom footwear designs.
