Laguna de Encinillas, located in Chihuahua, Mexico, is an ephemeral lake situated within a playa lake sedimentary depositional environment. This region plays a significant role in the aquifer supplying water to Chihuahua City. A surficial soil sampling campaign was conducted in 2017, 2018, and 2021 to assess the potential impact of surface soil composition on groundwater quality. The collected soil samples were analyzed using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) following microwave-assisted digestion. The analytical results were employed to generate spatial distribution maps of elemental concentrations using QGIS, applying interpolation methods such as inverse distance weighting (IDW) and kriging. The analysis revealed elevated concentrations of beryllium (Be), calcium (Ca), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), magnesium (Mg), and strontium (Sr) in the eastern part of the study area. In contrast, arsenic (As) and iron (Fe) were more prevalent in the western sector. Notably, high levels of barium (Ba), silver (Ag), cobalt (Co), potassium (k), and scandium (Sc) were identified in the northeastern region. At the same time, nickel (Ni), titanium (Ti), and vanadium (V) were concentrated in the northern portion. Manganese (Mn) was particularly prominent in the southern area. The geogenic source of these elements is likely linked to the volcanic rocks from the surrounding mountain ranges.

Gastric digestion of pea ferritin and modulation of its iron bioavailability by ascorbic and phytic acids in caco-2 cells

AIM： To understand the digestive stability and mechanism of release and intestinal uptake of pea ferritin iron in caco-2 cell line model.METHODS： Pea seed ferritin was purified using salt fractionation followed by gel filtration *** bioavailability of ferritin iron was assessed using coupled in vitro digestion/Caco-2 cell model in the presence or absence of ascorbic acid and phytic ***-2 cell ferritin formation was used as a surrogate marker of iron uptake. Structural changes of pea ferritin under simulated gastric pH were characterized using electrophoresis, gel filtration and circular dichroism spectroscopy.RESULTS： The caco-2 cell ferritin formation was significantly increased （P 〈 0.001） with FeSO4 （19.3±9.8 ng/mg protein） and pea ferritin （13.9 ± 6.19 ng/mg protein） compared to the blank digest （3.7 ± 1.8 ng/mg protein）. Ascorbic acid enhanced while phytic acid decreased the pea ferritin iron bioavailability. However,either in the presence or absence of ascorbic acid, the ferritin content of caco-2 cells was significantly less with pea ferritin than with FeSO4. At gastric pH, no band corresponding to ferritin was observed in the presence of pepsin either on native PAGE or SDS-PAGE. Gel filtration chromatography and circular dichroism spectroscopy revealed a pH dependent loss of quaternary and secondary structure.CONCLUSION： Under gastric conditions, the iron core of pea ferritin is released into the digestive medium due to acid induced structural alterations and dissociation of protein. The released iron interacts with dietary factors leading to modulation of pea ferritin iron bioavailability,resembling the typical characteristics of non-heme iron.

Direct-fed microbials（DFM）, generally regarded as safe status, are successfully used in improving rumen ecology, gastro-intestinal health, feed efficiency, milk production and growth rate in ruminants. On the other hand, methanogenesis in rumen, which accounts for a significant loss of ruminant energy and increased greenhouse gas in environment, is of great concern, therefore, use of DFM for improving productivity without compromising the animal health and ecological sustainability is encouraged. The present study was conducted to investigate the methane reducing potential of bacteriocinogenic strain Pediococcus pentosaceus-34. Since, the culture showed no hemolysis on blood agar and DNase activity, hence, it was considered to be avirulent in nature, a prerequisite for any DFM. The culture also showed tolerance to pH 5.0 for 24 h with 0.5% organic acid mixture, whereas when given a shock for 2 h at different p H and organic acids concentrations, it showed growth at pH 3.0 and 4.0 with 0.1 and 1.0% organic acids, respectively, as having good animal probiotics attributes. The total gas production was significantly（P〈0.05） higher in live pedicoccal culture（LPC） and dead pedicoccal culture（DPC） both with wheat straw, when compared to the control. In sugarcane bagasse, gas production was significantly lower（P〈0.05） with LPC compared to the control and DPC both. Methane was reduced by the inclusion of LPC in sugarcane bagasse（0.07 mL CH4 mg–1 dry matter digestibility） with no effect on other rumen fermentation parameters. However, with wheat straw and LPC total gas, in vitro dry matter digestibility, total volatile fatty acids increased significantly but no reduction in methane production was observed in comparison to the control. Therefore, further research is warranted in this direction, if the bacteriocinogenic strains can be used as DFM for ruminants to improve the ruminant productivity.

Potassium phosphatoantimonates, kSb2PO8 （kSbPO） and kSb2PO8-xNy （kSbPON）, are prepared by solidstate method. Urea is employed as a source of nitrogen for N-doping. Structural, morphological and optical properties of both kSbPO and kSbPON are characterized by powder X-ray diffraction （PXRD）, scanning electron microscopy, energydispersive spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. Both samples are found to crystallize in a monoclinic lattice with Cc space group. The d-lines of kSbPO and kSbPON are refined by least square fitting the PXRD data, using POWD software to obtain their unit cell parameters. The bandgap energy （Eg） of both pristine and N-doped kSbPO is found from their kubelka-Munk plot. The kSbPON/visible photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue and rhodamine B has been investigated in aqueous heterogeneous suspension. The generation of .OH in the presence of kSbPON during the photoreaction is verified by a fluorescence technique using terephthalic acid （TA） as a probe.

This article presents some new results on the class SLMα of functions that are analytic in the open unit disc U = {z ：｜z｜〈 1} satisfying the conditions that f（0） =0, f＇（0）= 1, and α（1＋zf＇＇（z）/f＇（z）＋（1-α）zf＇（z）/f（z）∈p（U）for all z ∈ U, where αis a real number and p（z）=1＋r^2z^2/1-Tz-T^2z^2（z∈ U）. The number T = （1 -√5）/2 is such that T^2 = 1 ＋ T. The class SFLMa introduced by J. Dziok, R.k. Raina, and J. Sokot [3, Appl. Math. Comput. 218 （2011）, 996-1002] is closely related to the classes of starlike and convex functions. The article deals with several ideas and techniques used in geometric function theory and differential subordinations theory.

The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of dietary replacement of commonly used vegetable oil(sunflower oil, SFO) with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids(PUFA) rich oil sources on broiler chicken performance, carcass yield, meat fatty acid composition, keeping quality and sensory attributes of meat. In the current experiment, 300 day-old krishibro broiler chicks were randomly distributed to 5 dietary groups(50 replicates with 6 chicks in each) prepared by replacing SFO(2% and 3% of diet during starter and finisher periods, respectively) with n-3 PUFA rich soybean oil(SO), mustard oil(MO), linseed oil(LO) or fish oil(FO) on weight basis. Variation in oil sources had no influence(P > 0.05) on performance and carcass yield. Supplementation of MO, LO or FO significantly(P ken meat with n-3 PUFA without affecting the bird's performance and sensory characters of meat.
