Characterizing the diversity and structure of host–parasite communities is crucial to understandingtheir eco-evolutionary dynamics.Malaria and related haemosporidian parasites are responsible forfitness loss and mortality in bird species worldwide.However,despite exhibiting the greatest ornithologicalbiodiversity,avian haemosporidians from Neotropical regions are quite unexplored.Here,we analyze the genetic diversity of bird haemosporidian parasites(Plasmodium andHaemoproteus)in 1,336 individuals belonging to 206 bird species to explore for differences in diversityof parasite lineages and bird species across 5 well-differentiated Peruvian ecoregions.Wedetected 70 different haemosporidian lineages infecting 74 bird species.We showed that 25 out ofthe 70 haplotypes had not been previously recorded.Moreover,we also identified 81 new host–parasite interactions representing new host records for these haemosporidian parasites.Our outcomesrevealed that the effective diversity(as well as the richness,abundance,and Shannon–Weaver index)for both birds and parasite lineages was higher in Amazon basin ecoregions.Furthermore,we also showed that ecoregions with greater diversity of bird species also had highparasite richness,hence suggesting that host community is crucial in explaining parasite richness.Generalist parasites were found in ecoregions with lower bird diversity,implying that the abundanceand richness of hosts may shape the exploitation strategy followed by haemosporidian parasites.These outcomes reveal that Neotropical region is a major reservoir of unidentified haemosporidianlineages.Further studies analyzing host distribution and specificity of these parasites inthe tropics will provide important knowledge about phylogenetic relationships,phylogeography,and patterns of evolution and distribution of haemosporidian parasites.

In this paper,we study the hyperstability for the general linear equation f(ax+by)=Af(x)+Bf(y)in the setting of complete quasi-2-Banach spaces.We first extend the main fixed point result of Brzdek and Ciepliński(Acta Mathematica Scientia,2018,38 B(2):377-390)to quasi-2-Banach spaces by defining an equivalent quasi-2-Banach space.Then we use this result to generalize the main results on the hyperstability for the general linear equation in quasi-2-Banach spaces.Our results improve and generalize many results of literature.

Engineered chitosan for improved 3D tissue growth through Paxillin-FAK-ERK activation

Scaffold engineering has attracted significant attention for three-dimensional(3D)growth,prolifer-ation and differentiation of stem cells in vitro.Currently available scaffolds suffer from issues such as poor ability for cell adhesion,migration and proliferation.This paper addresses these issues with 3D porous chitosan scaffold,fabricated and functionalized with cysteine-terminated Arg-Gly-Asp(Cys-RGD)tri-peptide on their walls.The study reveals that the compressive moduli of the scaffold is independent to RGD functionalization but shows dependence on the applied freezing temperature(TM)during the fabrication process.The low freezing TM(-80℃)produces scaffold with high compressive moduli(14.64±1.38 kPa)and high TM(-30℃)produces scaffold with low compressive moduli(5.6±0.38 kPa).The Cys-RGD functionalized scaffolds lead to significant improvements in adhesion(150%)and proliferation(300%)of human mesenchymal stem cell(hMSC).The RGD-integrin coupling activates the focal adhesion signaling(Paxillin-FAK ERK)path-ways,as confirmed by the expression of p-Paxillin,p-FAK and p-ERK protein,and results in the observed improvement of cell adhesion and proliferation.The proliferation of hMSC on RGD func-tionalized surface was evaluated with scanning electron microscopy imaging and distribution though pore was confirmed by histochemistry of transversely sectioned scaffold.The hMSC adhe-sion and proliferation in scaffold with high compressive moduli showed a constant enhancement(with a slope value 9.97)of compressive strength throughout the experimental period of 28 days.The improved cell adhesion and proliferation with RGD functionalized chitosan scaffold,together with their mechanical stability,will enable new interesting avenues for 3D cell growth and differen-tiation in numerous applications including regenerative tissue implants.

Greenhouse technology is a practical option for the production and drying of agricultural products in controlled environment. For the successful design of a greenhouse, the selection of a suitable shape and orientation is of great importance. Of various shapes of greenhouses, the even-span roof and the Quonset shape greenhouses are the most commonly used for crop cultivation and drying. The orientation of greenhouses is kept east-west for maximum utilization of solar radiations. Hybrid and modified greenhouse dryers have been proposed for drying of products. The agricultural products dried in greenhouses are found to be better in quality as compared to open sun drying because they are protected from dust, rain, insects, birds and animals. Moreover, various greenhouses shapes along with their applications have been reviewed.

A neural network-based electromyography motion classifier for upper limb activities

The objective of the work is to investigate the classifcation of different movements based on the surface electromyogram(SEMG)pattern recognition method.The testing was conducted for four arm movements using several experiments with artificial neural network class fication scheme.Six time domain features were extracted and consequently dlassification was implemented using back propagation neural dassifier(BPNC).Further,the realization of projected network was verified using cross validation(CV)process;hence ANOVA algorithm was carried out.Performance of the network is analyzed by considering mean square error(MSE)value.A comparison was performed between the extracted feat ures and back propagation network results reported in the literature.The concurrent result indicates the significance of proposed network with classification accuracy(CA)of 100%recorded from two channels,while analysis of variance technique helps in investigating the effectiveness of classified sigmal for recognition tasks.

ZnO nanowires based degradable high-performance photodetectors for eco-friendly green electronics

Disposable devices designed for single and/or multiple reliable measurements over a short duration have attracted considerable interest recently. However, these devices often use non-recyclable and non-biodegradable materials and wasteful fabrication methods. Herein, we present ZnO nanowires(NWs) based degradable high-performance UV photodetectors(PDs) on flexible chitosan substrate. Systematic investigations reveal the presented device exhibits excellent photo response, including high responsivity(55 A/W), superior specific detectivity(4×10^(14) jones), and the highest gain(8.5×10~(10)) among the reported state of the art biodegradable PDs. Further, the presented PDs display excellent mechanical flexibility under wide range of bending conditions and thermal stability in the measured temperature range(5–50 ℃).The biodegradability studies performed on the device, in both deionized(DI) water(pH≈6) and PBS solution(pH=7.4),show fast degradability in DI water(20 mins) as compared to PBS(48 h). These results show the potential the presented approach holds for green and cost-effective fabrication of wearable, and disposable sensing systems with reduced adverse environmental impact.

Development of a highly controlled system for large-area,directional printing of quasi-1D nanomaterials

Printing is a promising method for the large-scale,high-throughput,and low-cost fabrication of electronics.Specifically,the contact printing approach shows great potential for realizing high-performance electronics with aligned quasi-1D materials.Despite being known for more than a decade,reports on a precisely controlled system to carry out contact printing are rare and printed nanowires(NWs)suffer from issues such as location-to-location and batch-to-batch variations.To address this problem,we present here a novel design for a tailor-made contact printing system with highly accurate control of printing parameters(applied force:0-6 N±0.3%,sliding velocity:0-200 mm/s,sliding distance:0-100 mm)to enable the uniform printing of nanowires(NWs)aligned along 93%of the large printed area(1 cm^(2)).The system employs self-leveling platforms to achieve optimal alignment between substrates,whereas the fully automated process minimizes human-induced variation.The printing dynamics of the developed system are explored on both rigid and flexible substrates.The uniformity in printing is carefully examined by a series of scanning electron microscopy(SEM)images and by fabricating a 5×5 array of NW-based photodetectors.This work will pave the way for the future realization of highly uniform,large-area electronics based on printed NWs.

An analysis of tourist’s perceptions toward tourism development:Study of cold desert destination,India

Tourism impacts on society are complex and mixed.However,they are vital to diverse societies,clusters,and individuals dependent upon their morals,attitudes,and resources existing for tourism development.Increasing tourism also brings many problems.Hence,tourist experience is fundamental for destination image and devel-opment.This research examines tourist perceptions and attitudes toward tourism impacts in Chitkul,Kalpa,and Nako in Kinnaur.Random sampling has been used to measure tourist responses on a range of indicators related to tourism development.Likert scale responses were analyzed using factor analysis,ANOVA,Mann-Whitney U-test,Kolmogorov test,and descriptive statistics.The results confirmed that tourists do not perceive any type of pollu-tion or societal barriers.They observed that natural magnetism and the socio-cultural milieu of the destination is what attracts tourists.However,tourists are not satisfied with‘networking services’,‘organization efforts’,‘sup-plementary conveniences’,and‘carriage concerns’at selected destinations in Kinnaur.Moreover,Chitkul emerged as the top tourist destination in Kinnaur.Since the destination would emerge as a hub of tourist activities shortly considering the congestion and exploitation of nearby tourist destinations at Kulu-Manali-Rohtang in Beas Valley.Hence,the assessment of tourist perceptions can be used as an indicator of tourism destination competitiveness and can assist in developing appropriate tourism policies and infrastructure upgrades.

L13a-dependent translational control in macrophages imits the pathogenesis of colitis

Sustained inflammation from infiltrated immune cells plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis （UC）. Previously, we established the role of ribosomal protein L13a in the regulation of an inflammation-responsive post-transcriptional operon in myeloid cells. However, the role of this protein as a molecular cue to control the severity of colitis is not known. Here, we examined whether L13a-dependent translational control in macrophages could serve as an endogenous defense against colitis. The administration of dextran sodium sulfate induced experimental colitis in myeloid-specific L13a-knockout （KO） and control mice. Pathological scoring and injury to the colon mucosa evaluated the severity of colitis. The steady-state levels of several pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines were determined through ELISA and polyribosome profile analysis. Rapid weight loss, severe rectal bleeding, shortening of the colon, and significantly reduced survival rate were observed in the KO mice. Histopathological analysis of the colons of KO mice showed a severe disruption of epithelial crypts with immune cell infiltrates. Elevated levels of several inflammatory cytokines and chemokines and abrogation of their naturally imposed translational silencing were observed in the colons of the KO mice. Higher serum levels of several pro-inflammatory cytokines and the release of gut bacteria and endotoxins into the blood streams of KO mice were detected, suggesting the amplification of the inflammatory response to septicemia. Taken together, these results reveal an essential role for L13a in the endogenous protection against UC and demonstrate the potential for new therapeutic opportunities through the deliberate promotion of this mechanism.
