Modern internet search analytics and thyroidectomy:What are patients asking?

Objectives:Thyroidectomy is among the most commonly performed head and neck surgeries,however,limited existing information is available on topics of interest and concern to *** Design:***:***:A search engine optimization tool was utilized to extract metadata on Google‐suggested questions that“People Also Ask”(PAA)pertaining to“thyroidectomy”and“thyroid surgery.”These questions were categorized by Rothwell criteria and topics of *** Journal of the American Medical Association(JAMA)benchmark criteria enabled quality ***:A total of 250 PAA questions were ***‐oriented PAA questions describing what to expect during and after the surgery on topics such as postoperative management,risks or complications of surgery,and technical details were significantly less popular among the“thyroid surgery”group(P<0.001,P=0.005,and P<0.001,respectively).PAA questions about scarring and hypocalcemia were nearly threefold more popular than those related to pain(335 and 319 vs.113 combined search engine response page count,respectively).The overall JAMA quality score remained low(2.50±1.07),despite an increasing number of patients searching for“thyroidectomy”(r(77)=0.30,P=0.007).Conclusions:Patients searching for the nonspecific term“thyroid surgery”received a curated collection of PAA questions that were significantly less likely to educate them on what to expect during and after surgery,as compared to patients with higher health literacy who search with the term“thyroidectomy.”This suggests that the content of PAA questions differs based on the presumed health literacy of the internet user.

A rice variety with a high straw biomass retained nitrogen and phosphorus without affecting soil bacterial species

It is well documented that rice paddy fields act as agricultural wetlands that remove or retain nutrients;however,their associated effects on soil microbial communities are rarely *** present study evaluates the impact of rice variety on nutrient removal via plant uptake,nutrient retention in the soil,and bacterial associations in rice paddy fields,using a network analysis that compares the soil bacterial communities of two rice *** found that the high-straw rice variety(YD-1)allows uptake of a high amount of nitrogen(N)and phosphorus(P)from paddy rice fields via harvesting,but causes less residual total N and P to remain in the ***,both rice varieties(YD-1 and XS-134(Xiushui-134))had non-significant effects on the dominant bacterial *** short-term response of bacterial community diversity to rice variety is found to be mainly due to less frequently recovered species.A network analysis that incorporates soil nutrients as nodes,along with bacterial taxa,found that only one node representing the total P related to the non-dominant species had an indirect association with the rice straw *** observed short-term impact of the two rice varieties(XS-134 and YD-1)on soil bacterial diversity and nutrient surplus in these agricultural wetlands is limited under a high level of fertilization.

Traumatic Blindness—A Clinical Study

Background: As a cause of blindness, ocular injury constitutes 1.5% of all causes of blindness. In the developed world, trauma is also the leading cause of unilateral blindness and is preceded only by the cataract as a cause for vision impairment. Males are much more likely than females to sustain ocular trauma. The ocular effects of trauma can be far-reaching, so timely intervention is of prime importance to improve the visual outcome. General Objective: To evaluate the visual outcome after ocular injury. Methods: This study was conducted at Nagri Eye Hospital, Ahmadabad. In total, 68 eyes of 68 patients with eye injury were included in this study. Detail history was taken from the entire patient and a detailed ocular examination was done. Results: The mean age of incidence of the patients was 25.39 ± 16.89. The commonest age group presented with ocular trauma was i.e., 11 - 20 yrs. A great majority of patients were male with the mean age of 25.89 ± 16.55 accounting for 83.82%. The majority of the patients have visited the hospital in between the time period of 24 hrs - 1 wk (57.35%), followed by 23.52% within the time period of p-value Conclusions: The majority of cases were youth males with the age group of 25 yrs. All the cases with ocular trauma were unilateral. The trauma was common in industrial workers with the majority of the cases of blunt type. There was satisfactory visual improvement in patients who followed-up well.

Low-field, high-gradient NMR shows diffusion contrast consistent with localization or motional averaging of water near surfaces

Nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)measurements of water diffusion have been extensively used to probe microstructure in porous materials,such as biological tissue,however primarily using pulsed gradient spin echo(PGSE)***-field single-sided NMR systems have built-in static gradients(SG)much stronger than typical PGSE maximum gradient strengths,which allows for the signal attenuation at extremely high b-values to be ***,we perform SG spin echo(SGSE)and SG stimulated echo(SGSTE)diffusion measurements on biological cells,tissues,and *** on fixed and live neonatal mouse spinal cord,lobster ventral nerve cord,and starved yeast cells all show multiexponential signal attenuation on a scale of b with significant signal fractions observed at b×Do>1 with b as high as 400 ms/*** persistent signal fractions trend with surface-to-volume ratios for these systems,as expected from porous media *** exception found for the case of fixed *** spinal cords was attributed to faster exchange or permeability in live spinal cords than in fixed spinal cords on the millisecond *** suggests the existence of multiple exchange processes in neural tissue,which may be relevant to the modeling of time-dependent diffusion in gray *** observed multi-exponential attenuation is from protons on water and not macromolecules because it remains proportional to the normalized signal when a specimen is washed with *** signal that persists to b×Do>1 is also drastically reduced after delipidation,indicating that it originates from lipid membranes that restrict water *** multiexponential or stretched exponential character of the signal attenuation at b×Do>1 appears mono-exponential when viewed on a scale of(b×Do)/3,suggesting it may originate from localization or motional averaging of water near membranes on sub-micron length *** try to disambiguate these two contributions,signal attenuation curves were compared at varying temper

Objectives:Otolaryngology-specific requirements were piloted to minimize applicant and program *** investigated the impact of introducing and then removing these requirements on Match ***:2014-2021 National Resident Matching Program?data were *** primary outcome was the impact of Otolaryngology Resident Talent Assessment(ORTA;prematch 2017,postmatch 2019)and Program-Specific Paragraph(PSP;implemented 2016,optional 2018)on applicant numbers and match *** survey analysis assessed candidate perceptions of PSP/***:Applicant numbers declined significantly during PSP/ORTA(18.9%;p=0.001).With the optional PSP and postmatch ORTA,applicant numbers increased significantly(39.0%;p=0.002).Examined individually,mandatory PSP was associated with a significant decline in applicants(p=0.007),whereas postmatch ORTA was associated with significant increases in applicants(p=0.010).ORTA and PSP negatively impacted the decision to apply to otolaryngology in 59.8%and 51.3%of applicants,***,match rate success improved significantly from 74.8%to 91.2%during PSP/ORTA(p=0.014),followed by a significant decline to 73.1%after PSP was made optional and ORTA moved to postmatch(p=0.002).Conclusions:ORTA and PSP correlated with decreased applicant numbers and increased match rate *** programs seek ways to remove barriers to applying to otolaryngology,the potential consequences of an increasing pool of unmatched candidates must also be considered.

New Phytochemical Profile of Ethanolic Extract from Talipariti elatum （Sw.）

Genus Talipariti has long history of use in various traditional medicine therapeutic applications in Cuba, especially intreatment of bronchial asthma and flu. Petals of genus Talipariti are rich source of secondary metabolites and most of these metabolitesare reported to possess expectorant, antasthmatic, appetitive, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties. Hence, in our study, we present avalidated, sensitive, reliable, and cheap narrow-bore UHPLC-UV-ESI-MS/MS coupled to PDA （photodiode array detectors） methodfor the simultaneous isolation and identification of flavonoids and their glycosidic derivatives in this flower drug. In addition, abouttwelve compounds were identified in this specie based on chromatography retention time （tR）, UV and MS/MS spectra and comparedwith those of isolated authentic compound and literature data. About eighth constituents were reported for the first time from Taliparitielatum. Our results demonstrated the developed method could be employed as a rapid and versatile analytical technique foridentification of chemical constituents and quality control of Talipariti elatum.

Genomic Analysis of <i>Anabaena variabilis</i>Mutants PK17 and PK84 That Are Characterised by High Production of Molecular Hydrogen

The use of cyanobacteria for producing molecular hydrogen is one of the desirable tasks of photobiotechnology. Some years ago, we isolated several chemically induced mutants of the cyanobacterium Anabaena variabilis ATCC 29413 that exhibited a high level of H2-production;but the genetic nature of these mutants remained unresolved. To reveal mutations that could be responsible for enhancement of H2-production in two independent mutants, PK17 and PK84, the pyrosequencing of their entire genomes was performed. The results were analyzed on the basis of comparison with the complete genome sequence of the reference strain Anabaena variabilis ATCC 29413. The genomes of mutants PK17 and RK84 contain 107 and 104 point deviations from the reference genome, respectively. The most probable reason for the increase of H2-production in mutant PK17 is the mutation identified in the gene hupL encoding the large subunit of uptake hydrogenase. A high level of H2-production in mutant PK84 could be the result of a mutation in a conserved part of the gene hypF, which participates in the post-translation maturation of hydrogenase complexes.
