Synthesis of terpolymers consisting of two electron-donating monomers, viz. styrene and vinyl acetate with one electron-accepting monomer, i.e. acrylonitrile, initiated by p-nitrobenzyl triphenyl phosphonim ylide in dioxane as diluent at 65°C for 150 min has been studied. The kinetic expression is Rpα[I]0.8[Sty] 1.2[VA] 1.4 [AN]1.2. The terpolymer composition was determined by the Kelen-Tüdos method. The values of reactivity ratios using r1 (Sty + VA) = 0.1 and r2 (AN) = 0.005. The overall activation energy is 46 kJ●mol●L–1. The formation of terpolymer is confirmed by the FTIR spectra showing bands at 3030 cm–1, 1598 cm–1, and 2362 cm–1, confirming the presence of phenyl, acetoxy and nitrile group respectively. The terpolymer has been characterized by 1H-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, 13C-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. The Differential Scanning Calorimetric curve shows the Tg of the polymer as 149.5°C. A scanning electron microscope confirms the polymer to be phosphorus free. *** spectra confirms phenyl radical responsible for initiation.

AIM: To evaluate the outcomes of "concurrent vitrectomy" to retrieve dislocated lens fragment during ***: In a retrospective, observational case series, data of patients who underwent "concurrent" pars plana vitrectomy(ppV) for dislocated lens fragments between the period 2000 and 2008 were reviewed. Data collected included patient demographics, pre-operative visual acuity, intra-operative occurrence of retinal breaks, duration of follow up, post-operative intraocular pressure, final best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA),presence of cystoid macular edema(CME) and occurrence of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment(RRD).· RESULTS: A total of 58 eyes of 58 patients were included in the study. At 12 mo the mean postoperative BCVA was log MAR 0.17(20/30) with a range of log MAR0 to 0.69(20/20 to 20/100), with 96.6%(56/58) of patients showing post- operative improvement in visual acuity(p =0.005). None of the patients developed postoperative retinal detachment, endophthalmitis or non-resolving uveitis at 12 ***: Our study results suggest concurrent ppV for retained lens fragments after cataract surgery is beneficial and may decrease the risk of glaucoma and prevent development of RRD.

To study the influence of different levels of Bacillus subtilis on growth performance, nutrition metabolism and intestinal microflora of 1 to 42 d Arbor Acres(AA) broilers, a total of 800 one-day-old healthy broilers were randomly divided into 5 groups with 4 replicates per group and 40 broilers per replicate. Broilers were fed a basic diet(group 1) which acted as the control group, and 4 other groups(2 to 5) were fed the basal diet with B. subtilis added at concentrations of 100, 150, 200 and 250 mg/kg, respectively for 42 days. The results showed as follow: the average daily gain(ADG) of group 4 was significantly higher than(p p 1, and the average daily feed intake(ADFI) of group 5 was the highest but the differences between groups were not significant(p > 0.05). The feed to gain ratio(F/G) of all the experimental groups was lower than that of the control and the difference was significant in group 4(p pplementation of B. subtilis increased the apparent metabolism of crude protein(p > 0.05), crude fat(p > 0.05), dry matter(p > 0.05) and organic matter(p populations in the cecum. This shows that adding B. subtilis to the broiler diet can improve the growth performance, increase feed efficiency, regulate serum index and reduce harmful bacteria in the intestinal tract. Based on our study, it could be recommended that addition of B. subtilis at 200 mg/kg could improve the growth performance of broilers.

AIM To compare the results of arthroscopic capsular release with intra-articular steroid injections in patients of frozen *** Fifty-six patients with frozen shoulder were randomised to one of two treatment groups: Group 1, complete 360 degree arthroscopic capsular release and group 2, intra-articular corticosteroid injection(40 mg methyl prednisolone acetate). Both groups were put on active and passive range of motion exercises following the intervention. The outcome parameters were visual analogue scale(VAS) score for pain, range of motion and Constant score which were measured at baseline, 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 wk after *** All the parameters improved in both the groups. The mean VAS score improved significantly more in the group 1 as compared to group 2 at 8 wk. This greater improvement was maintained at 20 wk with p value of 0.007 at 8 wk, 0.006 at 12 wk, 0.006 at 16 wk and 0.019 at 20 wk. The Constant score showed a more significant improvement in group 1 compared to group 2 at 4 wk, which was again maintained at 20 wk with p value of 0.01 at 4, 8, 12 and 16 wk. The gain in abduction movement was statistically significantly more in arthroscopy group with p value of 0.001 at 4, 8, 12, 16 wk and 0.005 at 20 wk. The gain in external rotation was statistically significantly more in arthroscopy group with p value of 0.007 at 4 wk, 0.001 at 8, 12, and 16 wk and 0.003 at 20 wk. There was no statistically significant difference in extension and internal rotation between the two groups at any time. CONCLUSION Arthroscopic capsular release provides subjective and objective improvement earlier than intra-articular steroid injection.

AIM:To conduct a meta-analysis to determine the safety and efficacy of laparoscopic liver resection(LLR) and open liver resection(OLR) for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS:pubMed(Medline),EMBASE and Science Citation Index Expanded and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials in the Cochrane Library were searched systematically to identify relevant comparative studies reporting outcomes for both LLR and OLR for HCC between January 1992 and February *** authors independently assessed the trials for inclusion and extracted the ***-analysis was performed using Review Manager Version 5.0 software(The Cochrane Collaboration,Oxford,United Kingdom).pooled odds ratios(OR) or weighted mean differences(WMD) with 95%CI were calculated using either fixed effects(Mantel-Haenszel method) or random effects models(DerSimonian and Laird method).Evaluated endpoints were operative outcomes(operation time,intraoperative blood loss,blood transfusion requirement),postoperative outcomes(liver failure,cirrhotic decompensation/ascites,bile leakage,postoperative bleeding,pulmonary complications,intraabdominal abscess,mortality,hospital stay and oncologic outcomes(positive resection margins and tumor recurrence).RESULTS:Fifteen eligible non-randomized studies were identified,out of which,9 high-quality studies involving 550 patients were included,with 234 patients in the LLR group and 316 patients in the OLR *** was associated with significantly lower intraoperative blood loss,based on six studies with 333 patients [WMD:-129.48 mL;95%CI:-224.76-(-34.21) mL;p = 0.008].Seven studies involving 416 patients were included to assess blood transfusion requirement between the two *** LLR group had lower blood transfusion requirement(OR:0.49;95%CI:0.26-0.91;p = 0.02).While analyzing hospital stay,six studies with 333 patients were *** in the LLR group were found to have shorter hospital stay [WMD:-3.19 d;95%CI:-4.09-(-2.28) d;p < 0.00001] than their OLR

BACKGROUND: Recent international multidisciplinary consultation proposed the use of local (sterile or infected pancreatic necrosis) and/or systemic determinants (organ failure) in the stratification of acute pancreatitis. The present study was to validate the moderate severity category by international multidisciplinary consultation definitions. METHODS: Ninety-two consecutive patients with severe acute pancreatitis (according to the 1992 Atlanta classification) were classified into (i) moderate acute pancreatitis group with the presence of sterile (peri-) pancreatic necrosis and/or transient organ failure; and (ii) severe/critical acute pancreatitis group with the presence of sterile or infected pancreatic necrosis and/ or persistent organ failure. Demographic and clinical outcomes were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Compared with the severe/critical group (n=59), the moderate group (n=33) had lower clinical and computerized tomographic scores (both ppancreatic necrosis (45.5% vs 71.2%, p=0.015), infection (9.1% vs 37.3%, p=0.004), ICU admission (0% vs 27.1%, p=0.001), and shorter hospital stay (15 +/- 5 vs 27 +/- 12 days; pp analysis showed that the moderate group also had significantly lower ICU admission rates, shorter hospital stay and lower rate of infection compared with the severe group (n=51). No patients died in the moderate group but 7 patients died in the severe/critical group (4 for severe group). CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest that the definition of moderate acute pancreatitis, as suggested by the international multidisciplinary consultation as sterile (pen-) pancreatic necrosis and/or transient organ failure, is an accurate category of acute pancreatitis.

For the first time, the present study reports the life-history traits, comprising length-frequency distribution （LFD）, sex ratio （SR）, length-weight relationships （LWRs）, condition factors （CFs）, and relative growth （WR）, of Clupisoma garua in the coastal waters of Bangladesh. A total of 150 specimens ranging from 8.60 to 25.20 cm total length （TL） and 4.26 to 128.80 g body weight （BW） were collected using traditional fishing gear from August 2013 to July 2014. The overall sex ratio of males to females in the study did not differ significantly from the expected value of 1：1 （χ2=0.96, p〈0.05） but there were significant sex differences （p〈0.05） in the intercepts and slopes of graphs characterizing traits in C. garua. The calculated b values for the LWRs were 2.955, 2.893 and 2.927 for males, females and combined sexes, respectively, and there was negative allometric growth in all cases （b〈3）. The condition factors （KA, KF, KrR） and relative growth （WR） also did not differ significantly （p〈0.05） between the sexes. This study provides a useful tool for fishery specialists to evaluate the relative condition of fish and to initiate early management strategies and regulations for the sustainable management of the remaining stocks of this species in the entire coastal region of southern Bangladesh.

Historical variations in autochthonous and allochthonous sediment supplies to the largest freshwater lake in Central India

Lacustrine sediment preserves high-resolution biogeochemical records of past variations in watershed processes controlling lake sedimentation. The current study explores historical variations in autochthonous and allochthonous sediment supplies to a large tropical freshwater lake system(Upper Lake, Bhopal) protected under the international Ramsar Convention of 2002 against anthropogenic pressures. For this purpose, multi-proxy biogeochemical data are presented for organic matter(total organic carbon, total nitrogen, phosphorous, and loss on ignition [LOI] at550°C), carbonate(LOI at 950°C), lithic sediment(aluminum, titanium, iron, calcium, magnesium,sodium, potassium, manganese, zirconium, niobium, hafnium, tantalum, thorium, uranium, and rare earth elements), and anthropogenic inputs(lead) measured in a 38 cm long sediment core retrieved from the lake. In addition to the lacustrine sediment core, the samples of catchment bedrock, surface soils, major stream sediment, and eolian dust collected from the lake periphery also are analyzed. The systematic biogeochemical excursions in the upper core section(top ～8 cm) indicate increased anthropogenic inputs, watershed denudation by agricultural activities, artificially reduced fluvial sediment supply, relatively increased dust inputs and lake eutrophication in the last few decades. The current study underscores the roles of anthropogenic land-use and wetland conservation practices in the rapid alteration of autochthonous and allochthonous sediment supplies to open aquatic ecosystems. Further, rising lake eutrophication levels despite a managed reduction in allochthonous sediment supplies seem challenging to control due to dissolved nutrient supply from urban sewage discharge and runoff from agricultural land in the watershed.
