The analysis of acoustic emissions generated by the interaction between the wind and a building’s facade of approximately 90 m high, located in the city of Montevideo, is presented. There is a helipad on the roof of the building. It is surrounded by a perforated plate (4.87 m high). Once the building was finished, complaints about the noise annoyance were expressed by some neighbors and working population in the building. Measurements of sound pressure levels on the site have been done. Also the possible acoustic sources were physically characterized. The noise source was identified: the acoustical emissions were associated with a phenomenon caused by wind speeds above 20 m/s from different directions, generating high sounds pressure levels in octave band of 4000 Hz, after its passage through the perforated plate on the contour of the roof. These studies were complemented by measurements in wind tunnel using a physical model built with the same plate installed in the building, which allowed verifying the results.

The tumor angiogenesis process is believed to be dependent on an "angiogenic switch" formed by a cascade of biologic events as a consequence of the "cross-talk" between tumor cells and several components of local microenvironment including endothelial cells, macrophages, mast cells and stromal components. Oxidative stress represents an important stimulus that widely contributes to this angiogenic switch, which is particularly relevant in lungs, where oxidative stress is originated from different sources including the incomplete reduction of oxygen during respiration, exposure to hypoxia/reoxygenation, stimulated resident or chemoattracted immune cells to lung tissues, as well as by a variety of chemicals compounds. In the present review we highlight the role of oxidative stress in tumor angiogenesis as a key signal linked to other relevant actors in this complex process.

The human gene ATP 13A2 has been proposed to code for an ATP powered ion transporter of the PsB subfamily. Mutations of the human gene ATP1 3A2 were found to underlie an autosomal recessive form of early-onset parkinsonism （PD） with pyramidal degeneration and dementia. The ion transported by the ATP13A2 pump is not known, but several studies have shown that the Ps-ATPases influence the homeostasis of intracellular Ca2＋, and thus it has been suggested that they transport Ca2＋. In order to evaluate this possibility Chinese hamster ovary （CHO） cells stably expressing the human ATP13A2 protein have been obtained and the Ca2＋ transport activity of ATP 13A2 was assessed by measuring the ATP-dependent uptake of Ca2＋ into microsomal vesicles. As a positive control vesicles containing the human plasma membrane Ca2＋ pump （PMCA） were used. No significant differences were found between vesicles containing the ATP 13A2 protein and the control. Moreover, Ca2＋ was unable to induce the formation of the P-ATPase acylphosphate intermediate in vesicles containing the expressed ATPl3A2. These results favor the idea that the ATPI3A2 does not transport Ca2＋.

Lysosomal acid lipase(LAL) deficiency is an underrecognized lysosomal disease caused by deficient enzymatic activity of *** this report we describe two affected female Mexican siblings with early hepatic *** two months of age,the first sibling presented with alternating episodes of diarrhea and constipation,and later with hepatomegaly,elevated transaminases,high levels of total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol,and low levels of highdensity *** hypertension and grade 2 esophageal varices were detected at four years of *** second sibling presented with hepatomegaly,elevated transaminases and mildly elevated lowdensity lipoprotein and low high-density lipoprotein at six months of *** activity was deficient in both *** of LIPA revealed two previously unreported heterozygous mutations in exon 4:c.253C>A and c.294C>*** cases highlight the clinical continuum between the so-called Wolman disease and cholesteryl ester storage disease,and underscore that LAL deficiency represents a single disease with a degree of clinical heterogeneity.

Equal Switching Distribution Method for Multi-Level Cascaded Inverters

The paper proposes a new method of equal switching distribution that can be applied to cascaded multi-level inverters. This method is based on the fact that in the cascaded multilevel inverters, the output phase voltage is the sum of voltage waveforms produced by all cascaded cells. By periodically exchanging cells’ voltage waveforms, the proposed method ensures equal average switchings distribution between all cascaded cells. This method is applied to the 13-level inverter, which consists of three cascaded 5-level H-bridge cells per phase. However, the proposed method can be extended to any desired number of voltage levels and applied to any type of cascaded multi-level inverter. Extensive simulation results of the tested 13-level inverter with the equal switching distribution are presented. Moreover, the proposed method is compared to the standard control approaches and its advantages are shown.

The persistence and severity of hyperparathyroidism(HPT) post-renal transplantation is relatively frequent and primarily associated with the timing and its magnitude in the pre-transplant period and with the presence of parathyroid adenomas. HPT after renal transplantation is clinically manifested with hypercalcemia, hypophosphatemia, bone pain, fractures, and in more serious cases with cardiovascular calcifications that affect the survival. The primary clinical objective for patients with secondary HPT after renal transplantation is to obtain a level of parathyroid hormone(PTH) adequate to the renal transplanted function and to normalize levels of calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D. In many cases during this period, the development of hypercalcemiaand/or hypophosphatemia makes it necessary to take different therapeutic measures. The use of vitamin D or its analogues has been extrapolated from the management of pre-transplant HPT obtaining variable outcomes, although its use is limited by its capacity to produce hypercalcemia. Calcimimetics are drugs that have proven be effective in reducing PTH levels in patients with HPT on dialysis and has been effective in reducing up to 50% PTH levels in moderate to severe HPT in post-renal *** HPT persists after renal transplantation and does not respond to medical treatment, invasive management by percutaneous ethanol injection therapy of parathyroid glands or parathyroidectomy should be considered. The emergence of new methods for the management of HPT expands the availability of therapeutic tools for transplant patients.

Semiautomated OOA Map of Morphoclimatic Attributes from Sao Joao-MG River Basin, Brazil

This study proposes a survey of environmental information by applying techniques of modeling, image segmentation and OOA （object-oriented analysis） in the definition of landscape units based on morphoclimatic atributes. Landscape attributes such as climate and relief （morphoclimatic） were selected to start the characterization of the Silo Joio--MG river basin, located in southeastern region Brazil. The semiautomated mapping was produced from data extracted, respectively, of the DEM Aster and Topodata, and grid Worldclim. This database was processed and scaled to l：100,000 scale, generating a geomorphological classification, according to criteria of IPT （Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnologicas）, two climatic classifications, the one by the methodology of Koppen and the other one by methodology Thornthwaite ＆ Mather and a classification of land use. The thematic maps were associated in GIS with a geological base, soil vector, defining landscape units.

XRD Characterization of Crystallinity of Human Tooth Enamel under Influence of Mechanical Grinding

Crystallinity refers to the degree of structural order in a solid and has a big influence on hardness, density, transparency and diffusion. Even within materials that are crystalline completely, the degree of structural perfection can vary, reflecting size and elastic strain of many independent crystalline regions (grains or crystallites) of which these materials are composed. In this work it was attempted to reduce the crystallinity of human enamel using a technique of mechanical grinding (MG) with an ultra-compact FRITSCH Mini-Mill PULVERISETTE 23 machine. Variation in the crystallinity through the MG was monitored by X-ray diffraction (XRD) by broadening of the diffraction peak and examined using the Williamson-Hall plot method. Crystallites in human enamel are regularly arranged and oriented (in the [001] direction) perpendicularly to the interface of enameldentin junction. The results showed an anisotropic feature in crystallinity. Reduction of the crystallinity along the a-axis is due to the crystal strain rather than to the refinement of crystal, and vice versa along the c-axis. After 230 h of the MG, the length of crystallites decreased from 100 nm to 30 nm and width from 40 nm to 37 nm approximately.

When a relatively new building is not being fully utilized, there must have existed, at one time, a change in its initial conditions. The aim of this research is to study the changes in the initial conditions which cause buildings to be underutilized and analyze whether the demolition was justified. Causes can be found in problems due to the building＇s management, as the owners make the main decisions concerning the buildings. Additionally problems are due to the location where the building is constructed because site conditions changes a lot in one generation. The use of the building can also be a cause of abandonment as the original use can end before the lifespan of the building. Architectural style can be dated as fashions and styles change rapidly. Finally, causes can be in the physical condition of the buildings： structure, construction, installations and adherence to current regulations. In this article, the authors provide guidelines demonstrating how buildings of a past generation which were initially considered obsolete, can be properly reused.
