Synchronous chemotherapy and radiotherapy,termed chemoradiation therapy,is now an important standard regime for synergistic cancer treatment.For such treatment,nanoparticles can serve as improved carriers of chemotherapeutics into tumors and as better radiosensitizers for localized radiotherapy.Herein,we designed a Schottky-type theranostic heterostructure,Bi_(2)S_(3)-Au,with deep level defects(DLDs)in Bi_(2)S_(3) as a nano-radiosensitizer and CT imaging contrast agent which can generate reactive free radicals to initiate DNA damage within tumor cells under X-ray irradiation.Methotrexate(MTX)was conjugated onto the Bi_(2)S_(3)-Au nanoparticles as a chemotherapeutic agent showing enzymatic stimuli-responsive release behavior.The designed hybrid system also contained curcumin(CUR),which cannot only serve as a nutritional supplement for chemotherapy,but also can play an important role in the radioprotection of normal cells.Impressively,this combined one-dose chemoradiation therapeutic injection of co-drug loaded bimetallic multifunctional theranostic nanoparticles with a one-time clinical X-ray irradiation,completely eradicated tumors in mice after approximately 20 days after irradiation showing extremely effective anticancer efficacy which should be further studied for numerous anti-cancer applications.

Modeling Runoff from Semi-Arid Agricultural Lands in Northwest Iran

Transformation of rainfall into runoff over an area is a very complex process which exhibits both temporal and spatial variability;runoff in a defined area can be affected by factors such as topography, vegetation, rainfall characteristics and soil properties. This study was conducted to develop an empirical model using the rainfall characteristics and soil properties for predicting runoff from dry-farming lands in a semi-arid agricultural area in Hashtroud, Northwest Iran. Runoff plots(1.83 m × 22.1 m) in triplicate were installed in thirty-six sloped dry-farming lands in the study area. Runoff under natural rainfalls was measured in each plot during a2-year period. The results showed that runoff for 41 runoff-producing rainstorm events with duration longer than 30 min was largely associated with a rainfall index obtained by multiplying the positive square root of rainfall depth(h0.5) by the logarithm of the maximum 30-minute intensity(LogI30)(R2= 0.81). Runoff significantly varied among the plots(P < 0.001), which was considerably related to the effective soil properties(R2= 0.74), i.e., soil permeability(Per) and aggregate stability(AS). A multiple linear regression model was developed between runoff and the rainfall index(h0.5logI30) and the effective soil properties(AS and Per). Evaluation of the model using 34 runoff-producing rainstorm events that occurred during the next two years resulted in high values of the efficiency coefficient and R2(0.88 and 0.91, respectively), which revealed that the model developed in this study could be used in predicting runoff from the dry-farming lands in the semi-arid regions.

Synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles via sonochemical method and their characterization

Preparation of iron oxide （α-Fe2O3） nanoparticles was carried out via a sonochemical process. The process parameters sucb as temperature, sonication time and power of ultrasonication play important roles in the size and morphology of the final products. The iron oxide nanoparticles were characterized by trans- mission electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, and thermogravimetric and differential thermal analyses. From transmission electron microscopy observations, the size of the iron oxide nanoparticles is estimated to be significantly smaller than 19 nm. X-ray diffraction data of the powder after annealing provide direct evidence that the iron oxide was formed during the sonochemical process.

Characteristics of the breakup and fragmentation of an electrohydrodynamic melt jet

In this study, the breakup of a melt jet into a viscous medium is investigated in the presence of an intense electric field. Fragmentation of the melt jet occurs due to both hydrodynamic and electrohydrodynamic （EHD） forces within two kinds of silicone oil of different viscosities. The size and shape characteristics of the produced particles have been studied using SEM images, and the particle size distributions were found to exhibit considerable variations when a voltage was applied and when both the viscosity and temperature of the base fluid were changed. The morphologies of the particles were also affected by the same parameters. For instance, by applying EHD force, significant enhancements in size reduction and increased roundness of the particles occurred. The breakup process of the melt jet was found to be dominant by hydrodynamic or electrohydrodynamic instabilities, depending on the situation. Governing mechanisms （instability） in the cases of pure hydrodynamic and electrohydrodynamic fragmentations are discussed.

Optoelectronic Properties of Pure and Co Doped Indium Oxide by Hubbard and modified Becke–Johnson Exchange Potentials

Structural and optoelectronic properties of pure and Co doped In2O3 are studied by employing the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave method,which is known to produce highly accurate results.First principles calculations are performed with ordinary generalized gradient approximation(GGA)along with new Hubbard and modified Becke-Johnson exchange(mBJ)potential techniques.Improved band gap results are obtained for In2O3 with GGA+U and mBJ.In the case of mBJ,the band gap values are 3.5 eV and 3.4 eV for rhombohedral and cubic phases,which are in close agreement with the experimental data.Substitution of In by Co 25%alters the energy gap and a spin splitting effect is observed in these phases.For the spin-up state,it remains semiconductor,whereas for the spin-down state it shows semimetallic behavior.The value of static refractive index n(0)is 1.74 for the cubic phase,while in rhombohedral phase the values of n(0)are 1.77 and 1.74 along xx and zz optical axes,respectively.The calculated optical properties conform anisotropy in the rhombohedral phase and these materials can be potential candidates for the optoelectronics applications.

The main goal of the safe power outlet project is to make power outlets smart and integrate it to all old and new electrical wiring of homes and offices to eliminate the costs.Using the designed socket,home and office electrical appliances can be smarten and controlled remotely through wireless technology.The device designed in this project,is a smart power outlet that supports Wi-Fi connection and the user can connect directly to it and control it by the specific mobile application.There is no need for any other interfaces such as a modem or router,and the user can connect directly to the device.This is the innovative part of the project making it different from the conventional power outlets on the market.All home and office appliances running on AC power can be connected to a safe outlet directly and without an interface;they can be controlled via wireless network by mobiles.This device smartens all old and conventional outlets without making any changes in wiring.It also enables the control via Wi-Fi on the outlets.

目的:探讨在远视、眼正位儿童中双眼屈光不正性弱视与远视患病率的关系。方法:选取56例两眼对称远视儿童,平均年龄5.5岁,分为两组,双眼远视≤+4.0D等效球镜组和双眼远视>+4.0D等效球镜组。评估两组双眼屈光不正性弱视的患病率,并进行比较。结果:在32例双眼远视≤+4.0D等效球镜组中,4例(13%)患双眼屈光不正性弱视;24例双眼远视>+4.0D等效球镜组中,15例(63%)患双眼屈光不正性弱视。统计学分析显示两组双眼屈光不正的儿童中弱视患病率有显著性差异(P+4.0D的儿童有13%～63%发展成两眼屈光不正性弱视。由此说明远视>+4.0D的儿童患两眼屈光不正性弱视的几率较大。

弥漫性食管痉挛能否发展为食管失弛缓症:一项前瞻性队列研究

Diffuse esophageal spasm (DES) and achalasia share both clinical and manometric characteristics. Some reports support the notion of progression of DES to achalasia. However, there are currently no prospective data in support of this theory. To assess prospectively the rate of manometric progression of DES to achalasia. Manometry tracings of DES patients diagnosed between 1992 and 2003 were independently reviewed blindly and agreed on by two esophageal experts. Patients with DES who agreed to undergo repeat esophageal manometry constituted the study cohort. Follow- up manometry tracings were evaluated blindly and independently by the same two interpreters to determine the rate of manometric progression to achalasia. Predictors of manometric progression were assessed. A total of 32 patients were diagnosed with DES between 1992- 2003. Twelve patients (9M/3F;median age 62 years) agreed to participate and underwent second manometry (mean ± SD follow- up of 4.8± 3.4 years). Achalasia was diagnosed on follow- up manometry in one patient (8% ), seven (58% ) patients continued to have DES, three (25% ) had normal motility, and one (8% ) had nutcracker esophagus. There were no predictors of progression to achalasia based on the initial manometry parameters. A subgroup of DES patients with initial low esophageal body amplitude developed increase in esophageal simultaneous contractions on follow- up similar to the patient who evolved to achalasia. Following were the results. 1) Progression from DES to achalasia is uncommon. 2)DES patients with low esophageal body amplitude may develop increased simultaneous contractions over time. 3) DES remains an elusive diagnosis clinically and manometrically.
