The hematopoietic stem cell （HsC） niche in the bone marrow has been studied extensively over the past few decades, yet the bone marrow microenvironment that supports the growth of metastatic prostate cancer （PCa） has only been recently considered to be a specialized ＇niche＇ as well. New evidence supports the fact that disseminated tumor cells （DTCs） of PCa actually target the HsC niche, displace the occupant HsCs and take up residence in the pre-existing niche space. This review describes some of the evidence and mechanisms by which DTCs act as molecular parasites of the HsC niche. Furthermore, the interactions between DTCs, HsCs and the niche may provide new targets for niche-directed therapy, as well as insight into the perplexing clinical manifestations of metastatic PCa disease.

Light olefins such as ethylene and propylene are important industrial feedstocks, having essential applications in the production of plastics, ethylbenzene, and ethylene dichloride [1]. Compared with the conventional route, in which alkane steam cracking (sC) at high temperature is applied to produce ethylene and propylene, the catalytic ethane/propane non-oxidative dehydrogenation (EDH/PDH) possess the advantages of high selectivity and low energy consumption. Industrially, Pt is the major component to catalyze this reaction, but it suffers from low selectivity and fast deactivation because of favorable coke formation [2].

The chemisorption energy is an integral aspect of surface chemistry,central to numerous fields such as catalysis,corrosion,and ***-structure-based methods such as the Newns-Anderson model are therefore of great importance in guiding the engineering of material surfaces with optimal ***,existing methods are inadequate for interpreting complex,multi-metallic ***,we introduce a physics-based chemisorption model for alloyed transition metal surfaces employing primarily metal d-band properties that accounts for perturbations in both the substrate and adsorbate electronic states upon ***,we show that adsorbate-induced changes in the adsorption site interact with its chemical environment leading to a second-order response in chemisorption energy with the d-filling of the neighboring *** demonstrate the robustness of the model on a wide range of transition metal alloys with O,N,CH,and Li adsorbates yielding a mean absolute error of 0.13 eV versus density functional theory reference chemisorption energies.

Background: Floorball training offers a motivating and socially stimulating team activity for older adults, and 12 weeks of floorball training twice a week among men aged 65—76 years have been shown to have positive effects on a number of physiological parameters important for health. However, the effect of long-term participation in floorball training among male elderly has not been investigated. The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of 26-month self-organized regular participation in floorball training on cardiovascular fitness, body composition, blood lipids, glucose control, and physical function among recreationally active men aged 66—78 ***: After completing a 12-week randomized and controlled intervention with floorball and petanque training in the autumn 2014 or spring2015, 15 subjects chose to participate in floorball training(floorball group, FG), whereas 16 subjects resumed their usual lifestyle(control group,CG). FG took part in self-organized floorball training 1.7 sessions of 40 min/week, and CG continued their normal recreationally active lifestyle during a 26-month follow-up period. At baseline and after the follow-up period subjects were tested for cardiovascular fitness, glucose control(resting blood samples), body composition dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry(DXA-scanning), and functional ***: In FG, the decline in maximal oxygen uptake(VO_(2max)) during the follow-up period was lower(242 ± 379 mL/min, p = 0.01), blood glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c) increased less(—1.6 ± 2.9 mmol/L, p = 0.02), and leg bone mineral density increased more(0.03 ± 0.05 g/cm^2,p = 0.02) than those in CG. Pb geochronology and sediment core profiles of organic carbon, total sulfur and organic carbon isotope (d 13C) values were used to reconstruct the local environ-mental history of the shamei Lagoon, located in the Wan-quan River Estuary, eastern Hainan Island, China. Totalsulfur and d 13C values decreased upwards in the top 30 cm of a sediment core that spanned the last 200 years of deposi-tion. Total sulfur concentration and d 13C values respectively decreased upward from 1.92% to 0.36%, and -20.63?to -23.64? The C/s ratio in the 19th century and earlier was relatively stable in the range of 0.47—0.80, and there was a positive correlation between organic carbon and total sulfur. since around 1900 AD, the C/s ratio increased rapidly to a maximum of 3.94, but no simple correlation was found be-tween organic carbon and total sulfur during this more re-cent period. These results indicated that before 1800 AD, the lagoon had a fully marine character, and the location of to-day抯 Wanquan River Estuary was an open *** 1800 to 1900, the salinity of shamei Lagoon decreased noticeably. The amount of seawater which could enter thelagoon decreased gradually as the Yudai spit grew. Today,seawater scarcely affects the lagoon; it is essentially a fresh-water basin.

High-entropy alloys(HEAs)have the potential to be a paradigm-shift for rational catalyst discovery but this new type of alloy requires a completely new approach to predict the surface *** addition to the ligand effect perturbing the surface–adsorbate bond,the random configuration of elements in the surface will also induce local strain effects due to the varying radii of neighboring *** modelling of HEA surface reactivity requires an estimate of this effect:To what degree is the adsorption of intermediates on these lattice distorted atomic environments affected by local strain?In this study,more than 3,500 density functional theory(DFT)calculated adsorption energies of*OH and*O adsorbed on the HEAs IrPdPtRhRu and AgAuCuPdPt are statistically analyzed with respect to the lattice constants of the alloys and the surfaces of each individual binding *** is found that the inherent distortion of the lattice structure in HEAs releases the local strain effect on the adsorption energy as the atomic environment surrounding the binding atom(s)settles into a relaxed *** is even observed to be true for clusters of atoms of which the sizes deviate significantly from the atomic environment in which they are *** elucidates an important aspect of binding site interaction with the neighboring atoms and thus constitutes a step towards a more accurate theoretical model of estimating the reactivity of HEA surfaces.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a group of chronic disorders of the gastrointestinal tract comprising Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). Their etiologies are unknown, but they are characterised by an imbalanced production of pro-inflammatory mediators, e.g., tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, as well as increased recruitment of leukocytes to the site of inflammation. Advantages in understanding the role of the inflammatory pathways in IBD and an inadequate response to conventional therapy in a large portion of patients, has over the last two decades lead to new therapies which includes the TNF inhibitors (TNFi), designed to target and neutralise the effect of TNF-α. TNFi have shown to be efficient in treating moderate to severe CD and UC. However, convenient alternative therapeutics targeting other immune pathways are needed for patients with IBD refractory to conventional therapy including TNFi. Indeed, several therapeutics are currently under development, and have shown success in clinical trials. These include antibodies targeting and neutralising interleukin-12/23, small pharmacologic Janus kinase inhibitors designed to block intracellular signaling of several pro-inflammatory cytokines, antibodies targeting integrins, and small anti-adhesion molecules that block adhesion between leukocytes and the intestinal vascular endothelium, reducing their infiltration into the inflamed mucosa. In this review we have elucidated the major signaling pathways of clinical importance for IBD therapy and highlighted the new promising therapies available. As stated in this paper several new treatment options are under development for the treatment of CD and UC, however, no drug fits all patients. Hence, optimisations of treatment regimens are warranted for the benefit of the patients either through biomarker establishment or other rationales to maximise the effect of the broad range of mode-of-actions of the present and future drugs in IBD.

BACKGROUND Only one case of liver transplantation for hepatic adenoma has previously been reported for patients with rupture and uncontrolled *** present the case of a massive ruptured hepatic adenoma with persistent hemorrhagic shock and toxic liver syndrome which resulted in a two-stage liver *** is the first case of a two-stage liver transplantation performed for a ruptured hepatic *** sUMMARY A 23 years old African American female with a history of pre-diabetes and oral contraceptive presented to an outside facility complaining of right-sided chest pain and emesis for one *** was found to be in hemorrhagic shock due to a massive ruptured hepatic hepatic *** underwent repeated embolizations with interventional radiology with ongoing hemorrhage and the development of renal failure,hepatic failure,and hemodynamic instability,known as toxic liver *** the setting of uncontrolled hemorrhage and toxic liver syndrome,a hepatectomy with porto-caval anastomosis was performed with liver transplantation 15 h *** tolerated the anhepatic stage well,and has done well over one year *** When toxic liver syndrome is recognized,liver transplantation with or withouthepatectomy should be considered before the patient becomes unstable.
