The aim of this study is to determine the transfer factor soil-to-plant and to assess the concentration level of natural and artificial radionuclide (238U, 226Ra, 228Ra, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs) in samples from Saluga and Ghazal Protectorate area in Aswan, Egypt, by using High Pure Germanium detector (HPGe) Environmental Radioactivity Measurements Labrotary in faculty of science Qena. Reported values for natural radionuclides ranged from 8.81 ± 0.64 to 28.88 ± 2.10, from 6.98 ± 0.51 to 26.01 ± 1.89, from 12.29 ± 0.89 to 33.32 ± 2.43, from 12.53 ± 0.91 to 32.81 ± 2.39 and from 383.90 ± 27.95 to 711.98 ± 51.83 ***-1 for 238U, 226Ra, 228Ra, 232Th and 40K, respectively. 137Cs activity concentration was found to be in the range from 0.36 ± 0.03 to 9.73 ± 0.71 ***-1 and was calculated through transfer factor TF reported in this article.

Aim： To assess heine oxygenase-1 （HO-1） activity in the cavemous tissue of sildenafil citrate-treated rats. Methods： One hundred and ninety-two Sprague-Dawley male rats, divided into four equal groups, were investigated. Group 1, the control group, received regular animal chow; group 2 received sildenafil citrate by intragastric tube; group 3 received sildenafil and HO inhibitor （zinc protoporphyrin, ZnPP）; and group 4 received sildenafil and nitric oxide synthase （NOS） inhibitor L-nitroarginine methyl ester （L-NAME）. Twelve rats from each group were killed after 0.5 h, 1 h, 2 h and 3 h of drug administration. Then HO-1 activity, cGMP levels and NOS enzymatic activity in the cavernous tissues were estimated. Results： In cavemous tissue, HO-1 activity, NOS enzymatic activity and cGMP concentration increased significantly in sildenafil-treated rats compared to other groups throughout the experiment. Rats receiving either HO or NOS inhibitors showed a significant decrease in these parameters. HO- 1 cavemous tissue activity and NOS enzymatic activity demonstrated a positive significant correlation with cGMP levels （r = 0.646, r = 0.612 respectively; P 〈 0.001）. Conclusion： The actions of PDE5 inhibitor sildenafil citrate in the cavernous tissue are partly mediated through the interdependent relationship between both HO-1 and NOS activities.

Relationship between Radiological Lung Findings and Laboratory Ferritin and D-Dimer Levels in Patients with COVID-19 Infection

Introduction: Pulmonary symptoms of COVID-19 infection range from asymptomatic infection to severe pneumonia. Pathogenesis and severity of symptoms were found to be related to the body’s immune response. Objectives: Ferritin and D-Dimer in COVID-19 confirmed cases can predict lung injury and possible poor patient prognosis. Materials and Methods: Patients who had been admitted to Dr. Sulaiman Alhabib-Arryan Hospital with positive COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests between March 2020 and December 2021 were studied for blood ferritin and D-Dimer levels in relation to pulmonary radiological findings. Results: A total of 494 cases are included in this study. Male patients represent 74.1% of the cases, and the mean age is 51.68 ± 13.37 years. Increased age, ferritin, D-Dimer levels, and respiratory symptoms are factors that showed a statistically significant association with positive computed tomography (CT) findings. Receiver operator characteristic curve (ROC) showed that ferritin has a higher capability than D-Dimer to detect CT findings and that both are equal in predicting possible patient mortality. Suggested cutoff values for Ferritin > 336 ng/mL, with 78.21% sensitivity and 86.42% specificity and for D-Dimer > 0.55 mg/L FEU, with sensitivity of 74.82% and specificity of 75.31%. For mortality, the suggested cutoff point for ferritin is >864.6 ng/mL, which gives a sensitivity of 80.26 and a specificity of 64.83%. The suggested cutoff point for D-Dimer is >1.46 mg/L FEU, which gives a sensitivity of 65.79% and a specificity of 78.23%. Conclusion: Laboratory markers such as Ferritin and D-Dimer can be an accurate predictor of lung injury in COVID-19 patients and their increased values can predict the poor patient prognosis and possible mortality if aggressive hospital care is not provided.

Dhaka is one of the most densely-populated megacities in the world. Water supply problem is acute in this city, but the quality of drinking water has tremendous importance as potability. This study was aimed at comparing various physicochemical and microbiological parameters which are very much relevant for the drinking water quality of Dhaka city of Bangladesh. A total of 80 samples from 11 collection point of different places were collected over ten months. After that, the samples were examined by a different measuring device for physicochemical parameter testing. Considering physicochemical parameters, all water samples were within the limit for pH. However, 53.75% water had unsatisfactory for chlorine level. Total Dissolve Solid (TDS), hardness, iron, and alkalinity based unsatisfactory were 28.75%, 15.0%, 8.75%, and 3.75% respectively. Five parameters had taken into consideration to measure the microbiological quality. The cultural and biochemical methods showed that 80 water samples have a different range of contamination. The total aerobic count was unsatisfactory for 53.75% samples. Sixty-one samples were found coliform contaminated that is 76.25% of the total samples and 58.75% sample was carried fecal substances. E. coli and Vibrio was unsatisfactory as 61.25% and13.75% respectively. This study revealed that how much safe is supplied water of a municipal water supplier.

Descriptive Epidemiology of Multidrug Resistance Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in Bangladesh

Background: The number of reported MDR-TB cases has been increasing in recent years. Objectives: To describe the epidemiological profile of MDR-TB cases in Bangladesh. Design: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study. Settings: The study was conducted among the multi drug resistant tuberculosis patient admitted in the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH) Dhaka, Bangladesh. Samples: 148 confirmed cases of MDR-TB. Materials and Methods: Hospital admitted MRD-TB cases were randomly chosen from the above mentioned hospital. Semi-structured and pretested questionnaire were introduced by researcher. Clinical and treatment data i.e. duration of TB drug intake, report of sputum, X-ray and blood test etc. were extracted from the hospital record. Results: Study found, majority of the participants (56.1%) were in the age group of 16 - 30 years. 64.2% of the study subjects were married. Majority of the participants education were whether under primary or primary level. 24.3% participant’s family member and 14.5% of neighbor were having TB. Most common comorbidity were diabetes, pulmonary infection, hearing loss, psychiatric symptoms, chest pain, joint pain etc. 63.5% respondent had high degree of AFB for sputum positivity and more than 98% had positive finding in X-ray chest. On an average ESR was low and also few cases of extremely low ESR were found. 71.6% were under twenty four months regimen. Conclusion: We can conclude that, many possible factors for MDR-TB. There is an urgent need for further study to confirm the exact factors in Bangladesh and address those immediately.

Association between IL-37 and VEGF Gene Expression in Psoriasis Pathogenesis in Egyptian Population

Background: Psoriasis is considered a common skin disease, marked by the production and elevation of inflammatory plaques that regularly shed scales resulting from extensive skin epithelial cell proliferation. T lymphocytes, neutrophils, and other leukocytes enter the irritated skin, resulting in epidermal keratinocyte hyperplasia, vascular hyperplasia, ectasia, and T lymphocyte, neutrophil other forms of leukocyte infiltration. Aim of the Work: the study aimed to investigate the role of IL-37 and VEGF gene expression in the pathogenesis of psoriasis in Egyptian patients. Methodology: Polymerase chain reaction techniques (PCR) were applied to detect VEGF in the skin homogenates of psoriasis patients. In addition, the ELIZA technique was applied to investigate IL-37 in skin homogenates. One hundred cases have been divided into two groups: 50 healthy volunteers as the group I healthy control;50 psoriasis patients as group II. PCR real-time technology was assessed through extracted DNA samples for VEGF amplification in skin homogenate. Result: Our results revealed that psoriasis patients significantly had a substantial reduction in IL-37 compared to the control group (p Conclusion: There is a significant inverse association between IL-37 and VEGF in psoriasis patients. Study findings revealed that IL-37 gene expression decreases while VEGF gene expression increases in psoriatic individuals. Such a measurement may be beneficial in determining the severity of the condition, as well as taking into consideration of the disease’s diagnosis.

AIM: To correlate a genetic polymorphism of the low-density lipoprotein(LDL) receptor with antiviral responses in Egyptian chronic hepatitis C virus(HCV) ***: Our study included 657 HCV-infected patients with genotype 4 who received interferonbased combination therapy. Patients were divided into two groups based on their response to therapy: 356 were responders, and 301 were non-responders. Patients were compared to 160 healthy controls. All patients and controls underwent a thorough physical examination, measurement of body mass index(BMI) and the following laboratory tests: serum alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, albumin, total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, prothrombin time, prothrombin concentration, INR, complete blood count, serum creatinine, fasting blood sugar, HCV antibody, and hepatitis B surface antigen. All HCV patients were further subjected to the following laboratory tests: HCV-RNA using quantitative polymerase chain reaction(PCR), antinuclear antibodies, thyroid-stimulating hormone, an LDL receptor(LDLR) genotype study of LDLR exon8 c.1171G>A and exon-10 c.1413G>A using real-time PCR-based assays, abdominal ultrasonography, ultrasonographic-guided liver biopsy, and histopathological examination of liver biopsies. Correlations of LDL receptor polymorphisms with HAI, METAVIR score, presence of steatosis, and BMI were performed in all ***: There were no statistically significant differences in response rates between the different types of interferon used or LDLR exon10 c.1413G>A. However, there was a significant difference in the frequency of the LDL receptor exon8 c.1171G>A genotype between cases(AA: 25.9%, GA: 22.2%, GG: 51.9%) and controls(AA: 3.8%, GA: 53.1% and GG: 43.1%)(P A polymorphism between responders(AA: 3.6%, GA: 15.2%, GG: 81.2%) and nonresponders(AA: 52.2%, GA: 30.6%, GG: 17.

English as a Foreign Language Teachers’Beliefs and Practices of Teaching Writing:The Case of Context Impact

Writing learning has a vital role in learning a foreign *** a result,the way teaching writing is approached is also of great ***,the role of context in teaching writing is of significance when it comes to public and private ***,the present study carried out to investigate the differences between second language(L2)writing teaching self-perceived beliefs(SPB)and self-perceived practices(SPP)of public and private English as a Foreign Language(EFL)***,a questionnaire about EFL teachers’beliefs and practices of teaching writing and type of university was launched on Google using Google ***,a group of universities teachers were sent the link of the questionnaire to fill it *** results indicated that there was no significant difference between the total scores of beliefs and practices of teachers in terms of L2 writing ***,there were significant differences between the majority of item scores of SPB and *** results also revealed that public and private teachers did not differ significantly in terms of their SPP and SPB total and item *** important implications of the findings for EFL teachers’beliefs and practices research and writing pedagogy are discussed.
