Salicylic acid (SA) is a vital plant growth regulator providing promising role in plant development and adopts defense mechanism to abiotic stresses. Salinity is the most limiting abiotic factor for plant development and growth changes in watermelon by producing reactive oxygen species and ultimately oxidative stress. The present study was aimed to investigate the mechanism involved in salt stress alleviation in watermelon (Citrullus lanatus Thanb. mavs.) through the foliar application of salicylic acid. Watermelon cv. Charleston Gray was grown under moderate saline regime of 3 ds·m-1 NaCl and sprayed with salicylic acid with four level (0.5, 1.0, 2.5 and 5.0 mmol/L) compared along with control. SA @ 5.0 mmol/L was found to be very effective in mitigation of salt stress. SA was found to be very effective in alleviation of salinity stress by produced antioxidants and acted as osmo-regulator.

Seedling emergence and seedling establishment are two important phases for the good crop stand and final maize crop harvest. A field study was conducted to explore the effects of different tillage practices and poultry manure levels on the seedling emergence, growth, development, yield, and economics of the spring planted maize during 2010 and 2011. Experimental treatments include four tillage treatments (zero, minimum, conventional and deep tillage) and three poultry manure amendments (control (no manure), 5 mg·ha-1 and 10 mg·ha-1). Seedling emergence was linearly affected as the tillage intensity was increased. Significant relationship of tillage with leaf area index, leaf area duration, crop growth rate, net assimilation rate and total dry matter was recorded during the both years. Poultry manure at the rate of 10 mg·ha-1 produced the higher leaf area index, leaf area duration, crop growth rate, total dry matter and grain yield as compared to 5 mg·ha-1 and control. moreover, experimental results concluded that the deep tillage practice has taken less time to start emergence. Similarly, higher values trend of leaf area index, leaf area duration, crop growth rate, total dry matter accumulation and grain yield was shifted from deep tillage to conventional, minimum and zero tillage practices during both years. Economically, the minimum tillage with poultry manure at rate of 10 mg·ha-1 gave the better benefit to cost ratio and crop productivity as compared to conventional, deep and zero tillage. The experiment suggested the minimum tillage with poultry manure at the rate of 10 mg·ha-1 may ensure the maize grain yield sustainability.

Unusual Case of Radiation Induced Balanitis after Chemoradiation for Upper Rectal Adenocarcinoma

Background: Penile toxicity after preoperative concurrent chemoradiation (CCRT) for rectal cancers is extremely rare and only two cases of phimosis and one case of recto-cavernosalfistula have been reported so far in literature. Preoperative CCRT for rectal cancer is given in prone position and with the support of belly board (BBD) to avoid small bowel toxicity. However, positional errors during rectal radiotherapy can lead to unexpected penile toxicity. Case Presentation: A 50-year-old Saudi male with diagnosed case of rectal adenocarcinoma stage cT3N1m0 was given preoperative CCRT 50.4 Gy in 28 fractions with three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3DCRT) in prone position using belly board with concurrent oral capecitabine 825 mg/2 twice a day. After the completion of CCRT, he complained of severe soreness, itching over glans penis and dysuria. Examination revealed grade 3 erythema, skin desquamation over glans penis (balanitis). Portal imaging of treatment revealed glans penis to lie within posterior radiation beam. A patient was assured and he recovered fully after local steroids and short course of antibiotics. Conclusion: Penile toxicity after CCRT for rectal cancer is extremely rare manifestation. Radiation oncologists and therapists must be aware of this rare side effect and must assure proper patient education and positioning during CCRT for rectal cancer.

金黄色葡萄球菌(Staphylococcus aureus)是导致奶牛乳房炎的主要病原菌,其在抗菌药物的作用下可形成小菌落突变株(small colony variants,SCVs)。为了探讨牛源性金黄色葡萄球菌在表型转变过程中的遗传基础,对临床分离的奶牛乳房炎金黄色葡萄球菌野生型及其SCV、人工诱导的SCV、临床SCV的表型回复株进行了相关特性及基因组序列的分析。结果发现:金黄色葡萄球菌的SCV和野生型差异显著,野生型菌株在庆大霉素及磺胺甲噁唑/甲氧苄啶(SXT)的诱导下绝大多数产生甲萘醌缺陷型SCV,仅有1株经SXT诱导产生的SCV为胸腺嘧啶核苷(胸苷)缺陷型。菌株基因与表型之间存在明显关联,与野生型基因组相比,临床SCV均显示喹啉/醌代谢相关基因menA的碱基缺失,可能导致蛋白表达提前终止。庆大霉素诱导的SCV在基因menB处出现碱基位点突变;SXT诱导的SCV在代谢相关基因mW1485和aroA处分别出现基因片段的缺失和插入。回复株可能通过在代谢相关基因menA二次突变来恢复功能。本研究首次利用全基因组测序技术分析牛源性金黄色葡萄球菌SCV表型改变的遗传基础,有助于对奶牛乳房炎金黄色葡萄球菌SCV产生更深入的理解。

mechanically post-harvest puddled rice field has stubbles that often delay timely planting of winter wheat crop. Zero tillage increased the net return by decreasing the unwise tillage operations and labor charges. Keep in view, a randomized complete block design experiment in a split plot arrangement was conducted with four tillage system [conventional tillage, CT;deep tillage, DT;zero tillage with zone disc tiller, ZDT;and happy seeder, HS] in main plots and five nitrogen levels [0, 75, 100, 125, and 150 kg·ha-1] in subplots during 2009 to 2010 and 2010 to 2011 cropping seasons. Results showed that in 2009-10 and 2010-11 grain yield (4.6 mg·ha-1 and 5.7 mg·ha-1) in DT and (4.5 mg·ha-1 and 5.8 mg·ha-1) in HS were significantly higher compared with CT and ZDT. Significantly, maximum leaf area index (5.18 and 5.24) and crop growth rate (12.14 g·m-2·d-1 and 13.15 g·m-2·d-1) were noted in DT. Grain protein (11.78%) was significantly higher in DT compared with CT, ZDT, and HS during 2009-10 and 2010-11. Total yield (12.4 mg·ha-1 and 16.4 mg·ha-1) and grain yield (4.9 mg·ha-1 and 6.5 mg·ha-1) at N125 kg·ha-1 while grain protein (13.52%) at N150 kg·ha-1 was significantly higher than other nitrogen levels. maximum LAI (5.08 and 5.51) and crop growth rate (14.68 g m-2·d-1 and 15.77 gmily:Verdana, Helvetica, Arial;white-space:normal;

Perception of consumers when surfing the web for products has been heavily influenced by various factors such as risks, trust issues and uncertainty. Here we study the influence of perceived risk on consumers during the process of adoption of e-commerce. With the reference of the Technology Acceptance model （TAm）, the key issues being listed as the perception of the consumers influencing their decisions have been addressed in order to understand why the people want to use an online service for perception or discard their purchase.

Rosa centifolia is grown for its flowers which are used for essential oil extraction. It is vegetatively propagated through its cuttings which are difficult to root. This study was designed to increase the rooting percentage of cuttings by applying plant growth regulators (PGRs) with different levels. In total 31 treatments with different concentrations (450 ppm, 700 ppm and 950 ppm) of indole butyric acid (IBA), indole acetic acid (IAA), naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) alone, in combination and with same concentrations of 6-benzylamino purine (BAP) were used. Healthy similar sized cutting of R. centifolia was treated in solution of PGRs by quick dip method and planted in polythene bags. The data for shoot length, shoot dry weight, number of roots, root length and root dry weight were recorded. All three levels (450 ppm, 700 ppm and 950 ppm) of IBA alone produced maximum results in case of all parameters as compared to all other treatments. Among three levels of IBA, 450 ppm concentration produced maximum shoot length (10.67 cm), shoot dry weight (3.02 g), number of roots (14.00), root length (11.90 cm) and root dry weight (0.50 g). Lower concentrations of plant growth regulators produced better results as compared to higher concentrations.

Objective: To analyse the safety and effectiveness of biphasic insulin aspart 30 (BIAsp 30) in a Jordanian subgroup of the 24-week, non-interventional A1chieve study. methods: A total of 509 Jordanian patients with type 2 diabetes (392 insulin-naive and 117 insulin-experienced) starting BIAsp30, alone or in combination with oral glucose-lowering drugs, were included. Safety and effectiveness outcomes were analysed over 24 weeks. Results: Patients had a mean age of 55.8 years, body mass index of 28.8 kg/m2 and diabetes duration of 9.4 years at baseline. Two serious adverse drug reactions of hypoglycaemia were reported. The proportion of patients who reported major hypoglycaemic events decreased (2.4% at baseline vs. 0.2% at Week 24, p = 0.0039). The proportion of patients reporting overall hypoglycaemia increased marginally (6.3% at baseline vs. 9.9% at Week 24, p = 0.0378), primarily attributed to a rise in minor and nocturnal hypoglycaemia reported in insulin-naive patients. From baseline to Week 24, the mean ± SD glycated haemoglobin A1c level decreased from 9.8% ± 1.4% to 7.4% ± 0.9% (p mean fasting plasma glucose, postprandial plasma glucose, lipids, systolic blood pressure and quality of life (all p mean body weight increased by 1.8 ± 6.5 kg (p mproved glycaemic control in this Jordanian subgroup over 24 weeks.

The experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of crop system (DSSAT) OILCROP-SUN model simulating growth & development and achene yield of sunflower hybrids in response to nitrogen under irrigated conditions in semi arid environment, Sargodha, Punjab. The model was evaluated with observed data collected in trials which were conducted during spring season in 2010 and 2011 in Sargodha, Punjab, Pakistan. Split plot design was used in layout of experiment with three replications. The hybrids (Hysun-33 & S-278) and N levels (0, 75, 150 and 225 ***-1) were allotted in main and sub plots, respectively. The OILCROP-SUN model showed that the model was able to simulate growth and yield of sunflower with an average of 10.44 error% between observed and simulated achene yield (AY). The results of simulation analysis indicated that nitrogen rate of 150 ***-1 (N3) produced the highest yield as compared to other treatments. Furthermore, the economic analysis through mean Gini Dominance also showed the dominance of this treatment compared to other treatment combinations. Thus management strategy consisting?of treatment 150 ***-1 was the best for high yield of sunflower hybrids.
