Molecular mechanisms of the anti-obesity potential effect of Moringa oleifera in the experimental model

Objective: To elucidate the molecular mechanisms of the potent anti-obesity effect of Moringa oleifera Lam.(M. oleifera) ethanolic extract and to clarify the link between these mechanisms and the associated metabolic and vascular risks in the experimental model of visceral ***: M. oleifera ethanolic extract was orally administered at 600 mg/kg body weight in obese female rats daily for 12 weeks. At the end of treatment, body weight was determined, and the atherogenic index, coronary artery index, glucose level, insulin resistance status, liver and kidney functions were assessed. Also, the m RNA of leptin, adiponectin and resistin in visceral adipose tissue was determined by quantitative real ***: The results showed that M. oleifera extract down-regulated m RNA expression of leptin and resistin, while it up-regulated adiponectin gene expression in obese rats relative to untreated obese control counterparts. This amelioration of genes expression was paralleled by a reduction in body weight and improvement of the atherogenic index and coronary artery index, as well as glucose level and insulin resistance value without adverse effects on liver or kidney functions, versus the untreated obese control ***: It is reasonable to assume that the anti-obesity, anti-atherogenic and antidiabetic properties of M. oleifera are mechanistically achieved via working directly on the adipokines of the visceral adipose tissue. Therefore, M. oleifera may be a good therapeutic candidate for the symptoms of metabolic syndrome.

This paper presents a scalar volt per hertz(V/f)control technique for maximum power tracking of a grid-connected wind-driven brushless doubly fed reluctance generator(BDFRG).The proposed generator has two stator windings namely;power winding,directly connected to the grid and control winding,connected to the grid through a bi-directional *** order to enhance the performance of the proposed scalar-control strategy,a soft starting method is suggested to avoid the over-current of the bi-directional ***,the capability of generator speed estimation for sensorless control is also *** capability of the proposed scalar-control technique is validated using a sample of simulation *** addition,the presented simulation results ensure the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy for maximum wind-power extraction under windspeed ***,the results show that the estimated generator speed is in a good accordance with the actual generator speed which supports sensorless control capability.

Medical treatment of inflammatory punctual stenosis monitored by anterior segment optical coherence tomography

AIM:To evaluate the role of medical treatment in the management of inflammatory punctum stenosis guided by spectral domain anterior segment optical coherence tomography(OCT).METHODS:This prospective study included 60 patients complaining of epiphora due to inflammatory punctual *** were divided into two groups:Group A(30 patients)treated with a combination of preservative free hydrocortisone sodium phosphate 3.35 mg/m L eye drops,and preservative free artificial tears based on sodium hyaluronate,polyethylene and propylene Glycol;Group B(30 patients)treated with the same preservative free artificial tears *** normal subjects were included for comparison of pre-treatment anatomical *** starting treatment,all patients underwent anterior segment assessment including slit lamp examination,measurement of intraocular pressure(IOP),fluorescein dye disappearance test,and measurement of the outer punctum diameter(OPD)by Spectral domain anterior segment *** assessments were repeated at each follow up done at 1 and 3 mo later,together with subjective evaluation of patient’s satisfaction of the treatment outcome by simple rating ***:Punctual diameter increased significantly with treatment in both groups(P<0.0001);although the widening was more in Group A as compared to group B(16.2%vs 8%of the original punctual size,mean difference of 28.933μm,P=0.0076).Subjective satisfaction with treatment outcome was also better in group A(70%vs 40%,Chi-square P=0.0397).CONCLUSION:A combination of preservative free steroid eye drops and artificial tears causes significant widening of inflammed stenotic punctae and improvement of the associated epiphora.

Accurate load prediction plays an important role in smart power management system, either for planning, facing the increasing of load demand, maintenance issues, or power distribution system. In order to achieve a reasonable prediction, authors have applied and compared two features extraction technique presented by kernel partial least square regression and kernel principal component regression, and both of them are carried out by polynomial and Gaussian kernels to map the original features’ to high dimension features’ space, and then draw new predictor variables known as scores and loadings, while kernel principal component regression draws the predictor features to construct new predictor variables without any consideration to response vector. In contrast, kernel partial least square regression does take the response vector into consideration. Models are simulated by three different cities’ electric load data, which used historical load data in addition to weekends and holidays as common predictor features for all models. On the other hand temperature has been used for only one data as a comparative study to measure its effect. Models’ results evaluated by three statistic measurements, show that Gaussian Kernel Partial Least Square Regression offers the more powerful features and significantly can improve the load prediction performance than other presented models.

Complex variables method has been used to solve the first and second fundamental problems for an infinite plate weakened by a generalized curvilinear hole C. The curvilinear hole is conformally mapped on the domain outside or inside a unit circle γ using a general rational mapping function with complex constants. Many special and new cases are derived from this work. Some of the work of the previous authors in this domain will be considered as special cases of this paper. Also the interesting cases when the shape of the hole takes different famous shapes are included. The components of stresses for some examples are obtained.

针对埃及尼罗河三角洲地区传统灌溉方式存在的水分利用效率低、产量低和农户增收困难等问题,通过田间试验探索该地区玉米种植适宜的灌溉施肥模式。大田试验于2012年和2013年在埃及苏伊士运河大学试验基地进行,共设置滴灌（D）、涌泉细流沟灌（B）、传统沟灌（F）3个灌溉方式和施无机肥（C）、液态有机肥（O）2个施肥种类,共6个处理。试验研究了水肥互作对玉米叶面积指数（LAI）、地上生物量（ADM）、产量构成要素、经济产量、水分利用效率（WUE）和经济效益的影响。结果表明：抽雄期以后,灌溉方式和施肥种类对玉米LAI和ADM的影响均有显著差异（P〈0.05）,其中OD处理的LAI和ADM均处最高水平。两种施肥条件下,D、B和F 3种灌溉方式对玉米产量和WUE的影响均表现为：B〉D〉F。不同灌水条件下,O处理比C处理玉米产量提高18.6%～24.4%,WUE提高18.7%～23.4%。CB处理玉米的年均净效益最高,达7 373元/hm2,但与CF处理差异不显著。CB处理（即涌泉细流沟灌技术与施无机肥结合）是埃及尼罗河三角洲玉米最佳种植模式。

The temperature dependences of the thermoelectric power, TEP, (S) and magnetoresistance (MR) effect of La1-xLixMnOy (x = 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2 & 0.25 at %) fixed valence doped compounds were studied between 80K and 320K. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) showed that the samples are single phase. We found the correlation of structures to the mag-netoresistance (MR) and the thermoelectric power (S) which we assigned to change the specific branches of the magnon /phonon spectra with x. We also observed a splitting of the Curie and the metal insulating temperature TC > Tms.

The main objective of this paper is to study the removal of Cadmium(II), Lead(II), Chromium(VI), and Mercury(II) ions by sorption onto different natural and synthetic nanoparticles. Special attention has been given to the application of fish bone in nanoform as a useful, inexpensive and eco-friendly alternative material. A comparison between natural hydroxyapatite (fish bone), synthetic hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (HAP) and alginate-hydroxyapatite composite (Alg/Hap) to assess their removal efficiencies to remediate the selected heavy metals has been done. Surface characterization by using different techniques has also been performed to understand the influence of surface characteristics of the adsorbent materials in the removal process. Different parameters (pH, contact time, mass dose and metal ion concentration) have been examined to identify the optimum conditions for remediation of different metals from polluted water. The potential applications of the biosorbents for removal and sorption of these metal ions from seawater and wastewater samples were also investigated and evaluated.

Estimation of Generalized Pareto under an Adaptive Type-II Progressive Censoring

In this paper, based on a new type of censoring scheme called an adaptive type-II progressive censoring scheme introduce by Ng et al. [1], Naval Research Logistics is considered. Based on this type of censoring the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE), Bayes estimation, and parametric bootstrap method are used for estimating the unknown parameters. Also, we propose to apply Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) technique to carry out a Bayesian estimation procedure and in turn calculate the credible intervals. Point estimation and confidence intervals based on maximum likelihood and bootstrap method are also proposed. The approximate Bayes estimators obtained under the assumptions of non-informative priors, are compared with the maximum likelihood estimators. Numerical examples using real data set are presented to illustrate the methods of inference developed here. Finally, the maximum likelihood, bootstrap and the different Bayes estimates are compared via a Monte Carlo simulation study.
