AIM: To determine human leukocyte antigen (hLA)-DQB1 allele association with susceptibility to type 1 diabetes (T1D) and to clinical and laboratory findings. METhODS: This study was conducted on 85 unrelated Egyptian children with T1D recruited consecutively from the Pediatric Diabetes Endocrinology outpatients Clinic; Mansoura University Children’s hospital, Egypt. Patient mean follow up period was 2.5 years. Patients were subdivided according to level of hbA1c (optimal/suboptimal control he control group consisted of 113 unrelated age- and sex-matched healthy subjects without T1D or other autoimmune diseases. Genomic DNA extraction was done for all subjects using a DNA isolation kit. hLA-Class II-DQB1 allele typing was carried out with a polymerase chain reaction-sequence-specific oligonucleotide probe using a INNO-LiPA hLA-DQB1 update kit. RESULTS: Significant differences were detected between Egyptian patients with T1D and control groups in the frequencies of DQB1*02 [44.4% vs 18.6%, corrected P value (Pc) he frequencies of DQB1*05 (14.6% vs 7.2%, P = 0.029) and DQB1*06 (34.1% vs 7.2%, P however, after correction for multiple comparisons, the significance was retained for hLA-DQB1*06 (Pc hLA-DQB1*05. hLA-DQB1*0201, *0202, *030201 were positively associated with T1D (Pc = 0.014, Pc hile hLA-DQB1*060101 was negatively associated (Pc h the condition. Although the hLA-DQB1 alleles 030101 and 050101 were significantly higher in controls (P = 0.016, P = 0.025 respectively), both of them lost statistical significance after correction of P value. The frequency of the hLA-DQB1 genotypes 02/02, 02/03, and 03/03 was higher in T1D patients, and the frequency of the genotypes 03/06, 05/06, and 06/06 was higher in controls,

In this study we present the design and realization of a tunable dual band wireless power transfer(TDB-WPT)coupled resonator *** frequency response of the tunable band can be controlled using a surface-mounted *** transmitter(Tx)and the receiver(Rx)circuits are *** top layer contains a feed line with an impedance of 50Ω.Two identical half rings defected ground structures(hR-DGSs)are loaded on the bottom using a varactor *** propose a solution for restricted WPT systems working at a single band application according to the operating *** effects of geometry,orientation,relative distance,and misalignments on the coupling coefficients were *** validate the simulation results,the proposed TDB-WPT system was fabricated and *** system occupied a space of 40 mm×40 *** can deliver power to the receiver with an average coupling efficiency of 98%at the tuned band from 817 to 1018 Mhz and an efficiency of 95%at a fixed band of 1.6 Ghz at a significant transmission distance of 22 *** results of the measurements accorded well with those of an equivalent model and the simulation.

BACKGROUND Delayed sternal closure(DSC)can be a lifesaving approach for certain patients who have undergone cardiac *** value of the type of prophylactic antibiotics in DSC is still *** To investigate clinical outcomes of different prophylactic antibiotic regimens in patients who had DSC after cardiac *** This was a retrospective observational single-center ***-three consecutive patients who underwent cardiac surgery and had an indication for DSC were *** were subjected to two regimens of antibiotics:Narrow-spectrum and broad-spectrum *** The main outcome measures were length of hospital and intensive care unit(ICU)stay,duration of mechanical ventilation,and *** the 53 patients,12(22.6%)received narrow-spectrum antibiotics,and 41(77.4%)received broad-spectrum *** mean age was 59.0±12.1 years,without significant differences between the *** mean duration of antibiotic use was significantly longer in the broad-spectrum than the narrowspectrum group(11.9±8.7 vs 3.4±2.0 d,Phe median duration of open chest was 3.0(2.0-5.0)d for all patients,with no difference between groups(P=0.146).The median duration of mechanical ventilation was significantly longer in the broad-spectrum group[60.0(Δinterquartile range(IQR)170.0)h vs 50.0(ΔIQR 113.0)h,P=0.047].Similarly,the median length of stay for both ICU and hospital were significantly longer in the broadspectrum group[7.5(ΔIQR 10.0)d vs 5.0(ΔIQR 5.0)d,P=0.008]and[27.0(ΔIQR 30.0)d vs 19.0(ΔIQR 21.0)d,P=0.031].Five(9.8%)patients were readmitted to the ICU and 18(34.6%)patients died without a difference between *** Prophylactic broad-spectrum antibiotics did not improve clinical outcomes in patients with DSC post-cardiac surgery but was associated with longer ventilation duration,length of ICU and hospital stays vs narrow-spectrum antibiotics.

本文设计并实现了一个可调谐双频无线电能传输耦合谐振器系统。可调谐波段的频率响应可以使用表面贴装变容二极管进行控制。发射器和接收器电路是对称的。顶层包含一个阻抗为50Ω的馈线。通过使用变容二极管，两个相同的半环缺陷接地结构被加载在底部。针对工作在单频段（基于工作频率）的受限无线电能传输系统，提出一种解决方案。研究了几何形状、方向、相对距离和偏移对耦合系数的影响。为验证仿真结果，制作并测试了所提可调谐双频无线电能传输系统。系统面积为40 mm×40 mm。在有效传输距离为22 mm时，在817～1018 Mhz调谐频段，以98%的平均耦合效率向接收器输送电能，在1.6Ghz固定频段，效率为95%。测量结果与等效模型的模拟结果吻合较好。

Correlation between Wnt Signalling Inhibitors (Dickkopf-1 & Sclerostin) and the Intimal Medial Thickness in Children on Maintenance hemodialysis

Background: Wnt signalling inhibitors (Dickkopf-1 and Sclerostin) signalling play a role in vascular development and may contribute to calcification. Aim: To investigate the association between Dickkopf-1 and sclerostin serum concentrations in children undergoing maintenance hemodialysis with intimal medial thickness and peak systolic velocity of the main arteries. Patients and Methods: A study was conducted on 40 children undergoing maintenance hemodialysis and controls of the same age and sex. The study measured the initial medial thickness (IMT) and peak systolic velocity (PSV) of the main vessels (carotid, ulnar, and femoral). Dickkopf-1 and sclerostin serum levels in both groups were assessed, and a routine investigation was performed. Results: The findings indicate that the levels of serum Dickkopf-1 and Sclerostin were significantly higher in the hemodialysis group 2540.65 (2215.4 - 2909.2 pg/ml) and 1.17 (0.85 - 2.03 ng/ml)respectively (P = 0.001), compared to their control group it was 1110.45 (885.45 - 1527.65 pg/ml) and 0.28 (0.25 - 0.32 ng/ml)) respectively P = 0.001. Additionally, there was a significant increase in intima-media thickness (IMT) with a decrease in peak systolic velocity (PSV) in the main blood vessels, including the carotid, ulnar, and femoral arteries. A significant correlation was also observed between Dickkopf-1 and sclerostin levels and IMT of the carotid, ulnar, and femoral arteries. Conclusion: Wnt signalling inhibitors (Dickkopf-1 and Sclerostin) exert effects beyond the bone and significantly contribute to early vascular calcification in pediatric patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis.
