The North Atlantic Oscillation （NAO） is one of the leading modes of climate variability in the Northern Hemisphere. It has been shown that it clearly relates to changes in meteorological variables, such as surface temperature, at hemispherical scales. However, recent studies have revealed that the NAO spatial pattern also depends upon solar forcing. Therefore, its effects on meteorological variables must vary depending upon this factor. Moreover, it could be that the Sun affects climate through variability patterns, a hypothesis that is the focus of this study. We find that the relationship between the NAO/AO and hemispheric temperature varies depending upon solar activity. The results show a positive significant correlation only when solar activity is high. Also, the results support the idea that solar activity influences tropospheric climate fluctuations in the Northern Hemisphere via the fluctuations of the stratospheric polar vortex .

Tropical cyclone(TC)-related rainfall mostly depends on the atmospheric moisture uptake from local and remote *** this study,the mean water vapour residence time(MWVRT)was computed for precipitation related to TCs in each basin and on a global scale by applying a Lagrangian moisture source diagnostic *** to our results,the highest MWVRT was found for the TCs over the South Indian Ocean and South Pacific Ocean basins(~3.08 days),followed by the Western North Pacific Ocean,Central and East North Pacific Ocean,North Indian Ocean,and North Atlantic Ocean basins(which exhibited values of 2.98,2.94,2.85,and 2.72 days,respectively).We also found a statistically significant(p<0.05)decrease in MWVRT,at a rate of~2.4 h/decade in the North Indian Ocean and~1.0 h/decade in the remaining *** average,the MWVRT decreased during the 24 h before TCs made landfall,and the atmospheric parcels precipitated faster after evaporation when TCs moved over land than over the *** research should focus on the relationship between global warming and MWVRT of atmospheric parcels that precipitate over TC positions.

In this study,we identiﬁed the moisture sources for the precipitation associated with tropical cyclones(TCs)during the rapid intensiﬁcation(RI)process from 1980 to 2018 by applying a Lagrangian moisture source diagnostic *** detected sixteen regions on a global scale for RI events distributed as follows:four in the North Atlantic(NATL),two in the Central and East Paciﬁc Ocean(NEPAC),the North Indian Ocean(NIO)and South Indian Ocean(SIO),and three in the South Paciﬁc Ocean(SPO)and the Western North Paciﬁc Ocean(WNP).The moisture uptake(MU)mostly was from the regions where TCs underwent *** Western NATL,tropical NATL,Caribbean Sea,the Gulf of Mexico and the Central America and Mexico landmass supported~85.4%of the precipitating moisture in the NATL,while the latter source and the eastern North Paciﬁc Ocean provided the higher amount of moisture in NEPAC(~84.3%).The Arabian Sea,the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Peninsula were the major moisture sources in NIO,contributing approximately 81.3%.The eastern and western parts of the Indian Ocean supplied most of the atmospheric humidity in SIO(~83.8%).The combined contributions(~87.9%)from the western and central SPO and the Coral Sea were notably higher in ***,TCs in the WNP basin mostly received moisture from the western North Paciﬁc Ocean,the Philippine Sea and the China Sea,accounting for 80.1%.The remaining moisture support in each basin came from the summed contributions of the remote ***,RI TCs gained more moisture up to 2500 km from the cyclone centre than those slow intensiﬁcation(SI)and the total MU was approximately three times higher during RI than ***,the patterns of the MU differences respond to the typical pathways of moisture transport in each basin.

We uncover the existence of a universal phenomenon concerning the electromagnetic optical force exerted by light or other electromagnetic waves on a distribution of charges and currents in general,and of particles in *** conveys the appearence of underlying reactive quantities that hinder radiation pressure and currently observed timeaveraged *** constitutes a novel paradigm of the mechanical effciency of light on matter,and completes the landscape of the optical,and generally electromagnetic,force in photonics and classical electrodynamics;widening our understanding in the design of both llumination and particles in optical manipulation without the need of increasing the illuminating power,and thus lowering dissipation and *** show that this may be accomplished through the minimization of what we establish as the reactive strength of orbital(or canonical)momentum,which plays against the optical force a role analogous to that of the reactive power versus the radiation effciency of an *** long time overlooked quantity,important for current progress of optical manipulation,and that stems from the complex Maxwell theorem of conservation of complex momentum that we put forward,as well as its alternating flow associated to the imaginary part of the complex Maxwell stress tensor,conform the imaginary Lorentz force that we introduce in this work,and that like the reactive strength of orbital momentum,is antagonistic to the well-known time-averaged force;thus making this reactive Lorentz force indirectly observable near wavelengths at which the time-averaged force is *** Minkowski and Abraham momenta are also addressed.

Control systems governed by linear time-invariant neutral equations with different fractional orders are considered. Sufficient and necessary conditions for the controllability of those systems are established. The existence of optimal controls for the systems is given. Finally, two examples are provided to show the application of our results.

The Assisted Driving System (ADS) for haul trucks operating in surface mining and construction sites is to reduce accidents related to low visibility conditions. This system is based on the GPS, Zigbee, and the Google-Earth engine as the graphic interface and mine-mapping server. The system has the capability to pin-point and track vehicles in real time using a 3D interface, which is based on user-based AutoCAD mine maps using the Google-Earth graphics interface. All equipped vehicles are shown in a 3D mine map stored in a local server through a wireless network. When low visibility conditions are present, the system indicates available exit/escape routes for driver safety. The ADS potentially increases reliability and reduces uncertainty in open pit mining operations.

We prove some fixed point theorems in partially ordered sets, providing an extension of the Banach contractive mapping theorem. Having studied previously the nondecreasing case, we consider in this paper nonincreasing mappings as well as non monotone mappings. We also present some applications to first-order ordinary differential equations with periodic boundary conditions, proving the existence of a unique solution admitting the existence of a lower solution.

In this paper, we study a boundary value problem of nonlinear fractional dif- ferential equations of order q （1 〈 q 〈 2） with non-separated integral boundary conditions. Some new existence and uniqueness results are obtained by using some standard fixed point theorems and Leray-Schauder degree theory. Some illustrative examples are also presented. We extend previous results even in the integer case q = 2.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is the 3^(rd) leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. More than 80% of HCCs arise within chronic liver disease resulting from viral hepatitis, alcohol, hemochromatosis, obesity and metabolic syndrome or genotoxins. Projections based on Western lifestyle and its metabolic consequences anticipate a further increase in incidence, despite recent breakthroughs in the management of viral hepatitis. HCCs display high heterogeneity of molecular phenotypes, which challenges clinical management. However, emerging molecular classifications of HCCs have not yet formed a unified corpus translatable to the clinical practice. Thus, patient management is currently based upon tumor number, size, vascular invasion, performance status and functional liver reserve. Nonetheless, an impressive body of molecular evidence emerged within the last 20 years and is becoming increasingly available to medical practitioners and researchers in the form of repositories. Therefore, the aim this work is to review molecular data underlying HCC classifications and to organize this corpus into the major dimensions explaining HCC phenotypic diversity. Major efforts have been recently made worldwide toward a unifying "clinically-friendly" molecular landscape. As a result, a consensus emerges on three major dimensions explaining the HCC heterogeneity. In the first dimension, tumor cell proliferation and differentiation enabled allocation of HCCs to two major classes presenting profoundly different clinical aggressiveness. In the second dimension, HCC microenvironment and tumor immunity underlie recent therapeutic breakthroughs prolonging patients' survival. In the third dimension,metabolic reprogramming, with the recent emergence of subclass-specific metabolic profiles, may lead to adaptive and combined therapeutic approaches.
