Understanding the effects of elevation and related factors(climate,vegetation) on the physical and chemical soil properties can help to predict changes in response to future climate or afforestation *** work aims to contribute to the knowledge of soil evolution and the classification of forest soils in relation to elevation in the montane stage,with special attention to podzolization and humus *** northern flank of the moncayo Massif(Iberian Range,SW Europe) provides a unique opportunity to study a forest soils catena within a consistent quartzitic parent material over a relatively steep elevation *** increasing elevation,pH,base saturation,exchangeable potassium,and fine silt-sized particles decrease significantly,while organic matter,the C/n ratio,soil aggregate stability,water repellency and coarse sand-sized particles increase *** soil profiles shared a set of properties in all horizons:loamy-skeletal particle-size,extreme acidity(pH-H_2Ond low base saturation(nt soil forming processes in the catena include topsoil organic matter accumulation and even podzolization,which increases with *** the upper to lower landscape positions of wooded montane stage of the moncayo Massif,mull-moder-mor humus and an UmbrisolCambisol-Podzol soil unit sequences were found.

Although amyloid-β peptide is considered neurotoxic, it may mediate several physiological processes during embryonic development and in the adult brain. The pathological function of amyloid-β peptide has been extensively studied due to its implication in Alzheimer’s disease, but its physiological function remains poorly understood. Amyloid-β peptide can be detected in non-aggregated (monomeric) and aggregated (oligomeric and fibrillary) forms. Each form has different cytotoxic and/or physiological properties, so amyloid-β peptide and its role in Alzheimer’s disease need to be studied further. neural stem cells and neural precursor cells are good tools for the study on neurodegenerative diseases and can provide future therapeutic applications in diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. In this review, we provide an outline of the effects of amyloid-β peptide, in monomeric and aggregated forms, on the biology of neural stem cells/neural precursor cells, and discuss the controversies. We also describe the possible molecular targets that could be implicated in these effects, especially GSK3β. A better understanding of amyloid-β peptide (both physiological and pathological), and the signaling pathways involved are essential to advance the field of Alzheimer’s disease.

BACKGROUnD:Since we have previously shown an increase of mast cells in the small bowel and in the mesenteric lymph nodes in the rats with prehepatic portal hypertension,it can be hypothesized that this essential inflammatory cell would be involved in the pathogeny of the splanchnic changes related to portal hypertension. METHODS:To verify this hypothesis,we first studied mast cell infiltration in the ileum and in the mesenteric lymph nodes in sham-operated male Wistar rats(n=12) and in short-term prehepatic portal hypertensive rats (n=12),and the serum levels of rat mast cell protease Ⅱ(RMCP-Ⅱ)by *** a second set of experiments ketotifen,a mast cell stabilizer drug,was administered to sham-operated(n=10)and portal hypertensive(n=12) rats 24 hours before the intervention and prostanoids (PGE2,PGI2,TXB2)and leukotrienes(LTC4,LTB4)were assayed by RIA,mast cell infiltration in the ileum and in the mesenteric lymph nodes and the serum levels of RMCP-Ⅱwere also studied,to show its effectiveness to prevent the mesenteric alterations produced by the inflammatory mediators released by the mast cell. RESULTS:Forty-eight hours after the intervention RMCP-Ⅱ (Pnd LTC4 serum levels decreased and mast cell number and RMCP-Ⅱlevels increased in mesenteric lymph nodes in portal hypertensive *** administration of ketotifen reduced portal pressure(Pnd RMCP-Ⅱ(Pn mesenteric lymph nodes. COnCLUSIOnS:In acute portal hypertension in the rat,the mast cell translocation from intestinal mucosa to mesenteric lymph nodes,where they are activated and degranulates,would represent a defence mechanism to avoid the activation of an acute and massive inflammatory response in this *** administration of ketotifen is able to reduce the splanchnic inflammatory changes related to acute portal hypertension in the rat.

Loss of DnA mismatch repair(MMR) function, due to somatic or germline epi/genetic alterations of MMR genes leads to the accumulation of numerous mutations across the genome, creating a molecular phenotype known as microsatellite instability(MSI). In gastric cancer(g C), MSI occurs in about 15% to 30% of the cases. This review summarizes the current knowledge on the molecular mechanisms underlying the acquisition of MSI in g C as well as on the clinic, pathologic and molecular consequences of the MSI phenotype. Additionally, current therapeutic strategies for g C and their applicability in the MSI subset are also discussed.

Objective: To determine the thin-layer chromatography(TLC) fingerprint profiles and to evaluate the in vitro antioxidant activity of ethanol extracts of Muntingia calabura(M. calabura) leaves and ***: The leaves and stems were extracted using ethanol as solvent. The TLC separation of the phytochemical constituents of the leaf and ethanol extracts was carried out in ethyl acetate: n-hexane and chloroform: ethyl acetate mobile phase *** spots were visualized under visible light, UV 254 nm, UV 366 nm and after spraying with vanillin-sulfuric acid. The 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free-radical scavenging assay was used to evaluate the antioxidant activity of the ***: Both the leaf and stem ethanol extracts at 4 mg/mL exhibited 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl inhibition of more than 90%, relative to gallic acid. The results of TLC showed that the degree of resolution between the constituent spots was comparable between the two mobile phase systems using the different visualization wavelengths. Under the 254 nm visualization, few spots were observed in leaf and stem extracts. Visualization at 366 nm yielded the greatest number of observable spots of various colors in both leaf and stem extracts. More spots were visualized upon post-derivatization with vanillinsulfuric acid in the TLC chromatograms using chloroform: ethyl acetate mobile phase,compared to those in ethyl acetate: n-hexane mobile ***: M. calabura exhibited very high antioxidant activity in its leaves and stems ethanol extracts, both of which are used in traditional medicine. The TLC results demonstrated the presence of diverse secondary metabolites in the leaf and stem ethanol extracts, indicating that the antioxidant activity, including other bioactivities may be attributed to these phytochemical constituents.
