Is it possible to adopt the same oncological approach in urgent surgery for colon cancer?

BAcKGROUND locoregional complications may occur in up to 30%of patients with colon *** they are frequent events in the natural history of this disease,there should be a concern in offering an oncologically adequate surgical treatment to these *** To compare the oncological radicality of surgery for colon cancer between urgent and elective *** One-hundred and eighty-nine consecutive patients with non-metastatic colon adenocarcinoma were studied over two years in a single institution,who underwent surgical resection as the first therapeutic approach,with 123 elective and 66 urgent *** assessment of oncological radicality was performed by analyzing the extension of the longitudinal margins of resection,the number of resected lymph nodes,and the percentage of surgeries with 12 or more resected lymph *** clinicopathological variables were compared between the two groups in terms of sex,age,tumor location,type of urgency,surgical access,staging,compromised lymph nodes rate,differentiation grade,angiolymphatic and perineural invasion,and early *** There was no difference between the elective and urgency group concerning the longitudinal margin of resection(average of 6.1 in elective vs 7.3 cm in urgency,P=0.144),number of resected lymph nodes(average of 17.7 in elective vs 16.6 in urgency,P=0.355)and percentage of surgeries with 12 or more resected lymph nodes(75.6%in elective vs 77.3%in urgency,P=0.798).It was observed that the percentage of patients aged 80 and over was higher in the urgency group(13.0%in elective vs 25.8%in urgency,P=0.028),and the early mortality was 4.9%in elective vs 15.2%in urgency(P=0.016,OR:3.48,95%cI:1.21–10.06).Tumor location(P=0.004),surgery performed(P=0.016)and surgical access(Plso different between the two *** was no difference in other clinicopathological variables *** Oncological radicality of colon cancer surgery may be achieved in both emergency and

Water-spraying is regarded as an effective method to reduce the weight loss of product during vacuum cooling *** study aimed to investigate the effect of vacuum cooling factors on the weight loss of postharvest broccoli,and attempted to optimize the treatment conditions by simulated annealing(SA)*** algorithm based on simulated annealing meta-heuristic technique was developed to identify the optimum condition for vacuum cooling treatment of *** demonstrated that the SA algorithm could adjust well with the simulation of the broccoli cooling *** best condition was at 200 Pa of pressure,274 g broccoli,6% of water volume and 40 min processing *** this condition,a product with only 0.35% of weight loss and 1.48℃ final temperature was *** developed method may help to effectively control the weight loss during vacuum cooling process and reducing the economic loss.

Impact of land Degradation on Soil Microbial Biomass and Activity in Northeast Brazil

The recent global spread of the pandemic underscores the necessity of seeking new materials effective against microorganisms. Nanotechnology offers avenues for developing multifunctional materials. In this study, alpha-titanium phosphate (α-TiP) nanoparticles were synthesized and treated with silver salt to enhance their antimicrobial properties. The physicochemical characteristics and antimicrobial activity were evaluated. It was revealed by X-ray diffraction analysis that the structural integrity of α-TiP was influenced by ethylenediamine and silver ions. Distinct degradation profiles for each chemical modification were shown by thermogravimetric analysis. Infrared spectroscopy detected shifts and new absorption peaks in the spectra depending on the type of modification. Energy dispersive spectroscopy confirmed the disaggregation of α-TiP galleries following the addition of silver salt, which increased their effectiveness against microorganisms. Notably, only the sample treated with silver ions exhibited antimicrobial action. Antimicrobial activity was tested against the bacteria of medical importance Escherichia coli, Salmonella Enteritidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, listeria momocytogenes and the yeast candida albicans. All microorganisms were inhibited by sample containing silver. Minor inhibition was observed against the Gram-positive bacteria l. monocytogenes and Bacillus cereus, while the greatest inhibition occurred against the fungus (yeast) c. albicans. The results revealed a potential application of the nanoparticles for control of microorganisms in public health.

Amino acids have various prominent functions in plants. Besides their usage during protein biosynthesis, they also represent building blocks for several other biosynthesis pathways and play pivotal roles during signaling processes as well as in plant stress response. In general, pool sizes of the 20 amino acids differ strongly and change dynamically depending on the developmental and physiological state of the plant cell. Besides amino acid biosynthesis, which has already been investigated in great detail, the catabolism of amino acids is of central importance for adjusting their pool sizes but so far has drawn much less attention. The degradation of amino acids can also contribute substantially to the energy state of plant cells under certain physiological conditions, e.g. carbon starvation. In this review, we discuss the biological role of amino acid catabolism and summarize current knowledge on amino acid degradation pathways and their regulation in the context of plant cell physiology.

Given a vertex v of a graph G the second order degree of v denoted as d2（v） is defined as the number of vertices at distance 2 from v. In this paper we address the following question： What axe the sufficient conditions for a graph to have a vertex v such that d2（v） ≥ d（v）, where d（v） denotes the degree of v？ Among other results, every graph of minimum degree exactly 2, except four graphs, is shown to have a vertex of second order degree as large as its own degree. Moreover, every K4^--free graph or every maximal planar graph is shown to have a vertex v such that d2（v） ≥ d（v）. Other sufficient conditions on graphs for guaranteeing this property axe also proved.
