Impacts of Agricultural Activities on Land Degradation along the Bomboré River in Burkina Faso

Land along the Bomboré River in the rural commune of Mogtédo in Burkina Faso is experiencing degradation. The explanatory causes of this degradation constitute the subject of this study. To do this, a survey was conducted among agricultural producers deployed along the watercourse. Soil profiles were described and samples were taken to analyze pH, soil organic carbon, soil organic matter, total nitrogen, and texture. The RUSLE model approach based on landstat8 OLI/TIRS and SRTM satellite images dated December 17, 2021 with fairly good radiometric, spatial, and spectral resolution was used to calculate the land loss rate. In terms of results, the potentially irrigable areas that spread out on both sides of the banks of the river cover 209.23 ha with a perimeter of 6.16 km. The number of irrigators is 26 producers and they grow 17.92 ha of vegetables. Soil analyzes indicate the presence of a moderate acid on the vertisol with a pH between 5.57 and 5.86. On the depth 0 - 30 cm of the horizon, the color of the horizons ranges from 5YR4/2 on the talweg and on the right bank to 7.5YR3/2 on the left bank and presents no risk of salinity because the electrical conductivity measured is less than 1dS/cm. The diagnosis of hydromechanical equipment shows that producers use 46 motor pumps for irrigation, of which 15 motor pumps run on gasoline and 31 motor pumps on butane gas with a ratio of 1.7 motor pumps per producer. The number of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) pipes used by producers in combination with a motor pump gives an average of 44 per farmer. In terms of mineral fertilization, the gross doses used by producers are 415.53 kg/ha of NPK and 201.55 kg/ha of urea, while the quantities of phytosanitary products are 3.99 l/ha of pesticides and 1.42 l/ha of herbicides. Agricultural activities emit about 222,436.66 kgCO2eq into the atmosphere, whose emissions from motor pumps represent 84.52% of these total emissions. The Origin of Gravitational and Electric Forces, the Nature of Electromagnetic Waves

We have proposed a prequantum physics, itself founded on classical mechanics completed by the existence of an universal cloud of tiny particles noted U. These U particle command the mass, variable, of electron, neutron, proton, and atom particles noted M. The “shocks” between U and M particles in the cloud, with screen effect, give birth to electrical forces among charged particles with very small differences between attractive and repulsive forces, and to certain gravitational forces. This cloud with the electromagnetic waves propagating thus recalls an ether, yet much different regarding its effects on the inertial mass of any particle within it. The electromagnetic wave and the photon look like if they were born from a statistical mechanics induced by the universal cloud, and their status, in this regard, may be compared to the status conferred by atomics to a temperature or a pressure. The wave transversality is explained. By the same token, one understands why the photon, a vectorial bearer of a statistical information, may thus describe a particle as well as a wave.

Coverage probability of cellular networks using interference alignment under imperfect CSI

Interference alignment (IA) is well understood to approach the capacity of interference channels, and believed to be crucial in cellular networks in which the ability to control and exploit interference is key. However, the achievable performance of IA in cellular networks depends on the quality of channel state information (CSI) and how effective IA is in practical settings is not known. This paper studies the use of IA to mitigate inter-cell interference of cellular networks under imperfect CSI conditions. Our analysis is based on stochastic geometry where the structure of the base station (BS) locations is considered by a Poisson point process (PPP). Our main contribution is the coverage probability of the network and simulation results confirm the accuracy.

Rapid Detection of Filoviruses by Real-time TaqMan Polymerase Chain Reaction Assays

Ebola virus (EBOV) and Marburg virus (MARV) are causative agents of severe hemorrhagic fever with high mortality rates in humans and non-human primates and there is currently no licensed vaccine or therapeutics. To date, there is no specific laboratory diagnostic test in China, while there is a national need to provide differential diagnosis during outbreaks and for instituting acceptable quarantine procedures. In this study, the TaqMan RT-PCR assays targeting the nucleoprotein genes of the Zaire Ebolavirus (ZEBOV) and MARV were developed and their sensitivities and specificities were investigated. Our results indicated that the assays were able to make reliable diagnosis over a wide range of virus copies from 103 to 109, corresponding to the threshold of a standard RNA transcript. The results showed that there were about 1010 RNA copies per milliliter of virus culture supernatant, equivalent to 10,000 RNA molecules per infectious virion, suggesting the presence of many non-infectious particles. These data indicated that the TaqMan RT-PCR assays developed in this study will be suitable for future surveillance and specific diagnosis of ZEBOV and MARV in China.

Bioefficacy of Plectranthus kirbii Powder and Extracts on Stored Cowpea Pest Callosobruchus maculatus (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae)

Cowpea seed constitutes an important source of proteins for populations in Sub-Saharan Africa. But this food resource is heavily damaged by cowpea beetle Callosobruchus maculatus. The control of that pest is mainly carried out by using synthetic insecticides. Despite the efficacy of this method, it caused environmental and health problems. Therefore, the search for alternative methods is vivaciously needed. In this issue, the bio-efficacy of Plectranthus kirbii extracts was assessed on C. maculatus regarding adult mortality, suppression of population and grain damage as well as seed viability preservation and repellency. The leaf powder and aqueous extracts of the plant were tested at 2, 4, 8 and 16 g/kg on bruchid adult for toxicity and damage bioassays. Repellency test was carried out using the plant aqueous, methanolic and ethyl acetate extracts at 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 mg/cm2. The seed viability was evaluated using seeds preserved for three months at the single concentration of 16 g/kg of each plant extract. Significant mortality of cowpea beetle was induced by the plant aqueous extract and leaf powder. LC50 values decreased with the increasing exposure period, and aqueous extract and leaf powder recorded 33.42 and 9.48 g/kg respectively within 3 days whereas within 5 days, the same extracts in the same order recorded LC50 of 1.31 and 8.73 g/kg respectively. These extracts significantly reduced damage by suppressing almost completely the bruchid population growth. The non-infested grain preserved recorded high grain viability compared to the infested ones. The non-treated infested recorded the lowest germination rate (11.33%). The repellency rate ranged from 38.75% to 83.75%. Ethyl acetate and methanolic extracts were classified as the class III repellent product, while aqueous extract ranged as class IV in repellency. The Lines of Lyman and the Titus-Bode Law Preferred Orbital of a Celestial Body

We have proposed, thanks to a new model of the hydrogen atom [1], some explanation of the lines observed by Lyman in the spectrographic analysis of this atom. The model is based on a prequantum physics, itself founded on classical mechanics completed by the existence of a universal cloud of tiny particles called U. This cloud induces simultaneously and similarly electromagnetic and gravitational effects. This common origin creates a narrow link between how planets are arranged in a solar system, say the Titus-Bode law, and how the electrons are arranged in an atom, say the lines of Lyman. We describe what this link is in the following text and, more generally, what is the preferred orbit of an isolated celestial body.

Since the first 2 cases observed in southern Germany and the correct identification of a parasite at the origin of the disease by the famous scientist Rudolf Virchow in 1855, the borders of the endemic area of alveolar echinococcosis （AE） have never stopped to expand. The parasite was successively recognized in Switzerland, then in Russia, Austria and France which were long considered as the only endemic areas for the disease. Cases were disclosed in Turkey in 1939; then much attention was paid to Alaska and to Hokkaido, in Japan. The situation totally changed in 1991 after the recognition of the Chinese endemic areas by the international community of scientists. The world map was completed in the beginning of the 21st century by the identification of AE in most of the countries of central/eastern Europe and Baltic States, and by the recognition of cases in central Asia. Up to now, the disease has however never been reported in the South hemisphere and in the United Kingdom. In the mid-1950s, demonstration by Rausch and Schiller in Alaska, and by Vogel in Germany, of the distinction between 2 parasite species responsible respectively for cystic echinococcosis （＂hydatid disease＂） and AE put an end to the long-lasting debate between the ＂dualists＂, who believed in that theory which eventually proved to be true, and the ＂unicists＂, who believed in a single species responsible for both diseases. At the end of the 20th century, molecular biology fully confirmed the ＂dualist＂ theory while adding several new species to the initially described E. granulosus; within the past decade, it also confirmed that little variation existed within Echinococcus （E.） multilocularis species, and that AE-Iooking infection in some intermediate animal hosts on the Tibetan plateau was indeed due to a new species, distinct from E. multilocularis, named E. shiquicus. The study of Birimian granitoids is of great importance because it allows us to understand the architecture of the West African crust and the processes that shaped it. In order to contribute to the improvement of knowledge on the geodynamic context of the emplacement of certain granitoids of the West African craton, this article addresses some essential problems of the Birimian, namely distinguishing the real nature of the magmas and the mechanisms that generated this Birimian crust. On the West African craton, there are intrusive granites in volcano-sedimentary furrows, in meta-sedimentary basins and granites that form batholiths separating these structures. To provide an answer to this scientific concern, we conducted a comparative study of the granitoids of the Comoé basin (Tiassalé region) and those of the large batholith of Ferkessédougou (Daloa region). From this study, it appears that these Birimian granitoids have been identified as granites, granodiorites and tonalites in the Tiassalé region while in Daloa, they are assimilated to anatexites and granites. They present very diverse aspects and contexts of emplacement: the granitoids of the Comoé basin have characteristics of type I granite, indicating direct crystallization of mantle magmas in a syntectonic emplacement, while in the Daloa region, some granitoids are magmatic, others migmatitic or metasomatic, reflecting a certain complexity relating to their genesis.

Effect of Tetracera potatoria Aqueous Extract on Mellitus Diabetes and Its Complication Preventions in Wistar Rats

Background: Diabetes is becoming a serious public health issue with expensive treatment that is less accessible to all patients in least developing countries. The traditional African pharmacopoeia offers accessible and lower cost alternative to diabetics’ treatments. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the aqueous extract of Tetracera potatoria, on diabetes and the prevention of its complications in Wistar rats. In order to evaluate respectively the hypoglycaemic, anti-hyperglycaemic and antidiabetic activities. Methods: an aqueous extract at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg was tested on normal rats and orally hyperglycaemic challenged rats by 10% glucose (3 g/kg), to induce diabetes by intraperitoneal injection of Alloxan at 50 mg/kg. The glycaemia monitoring, and the determination of biological parameters were accessed through ASAT, ALAT, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, triglycerides, glycated haemoglobin tests. Results: The aqueous extract at related doses administered to diabetic rats has significantly reduced the mean blood glucose levels in all diabetic rats at 55.56%, 63.34% and 62.38% compared to healthy control batches in the three batches treated. These doses improved the change in body weight compared to the healthy control group. There was an increase of 110.9%, 107.67% and 109.31% respectively after four weeks of treatment compared to the initial weight of the rats. The significant increase (p Conclusions: These results showed hypoglycaemic and antihy-perglycaemic, antidiabetic effects, preventing the installation of some diabetes related complications. The phytochemical parameters of the extract showed chemical compounds which would act the reduction of the putative diabetes and its complications. These indicators show the importance of medicinal plants on diabetes treatment.

Epidemiological, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Aspects of Locally Advanced and/or Metastatic Breast Cancers at the Chu-Mel of Cotonou

Introduction: Breast cancer mortality remains high in most developing countries. Benin Republic does not yet have a technical platform required for the diagnosis and effective management of breast cancer “according to the recommendations”. Objective: To study the epidemiological, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of locally advanced and/or metastatic breast cancers at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire-de la Mère et de l’Enfant Lagune (CHU-MEL) of Cotonou from 2018 to 2021. Study Methods: This was a retrospective cross-sectional study with a descriptive purpose, carried out from January 1, 2018 to September 30, 2021 in the Gynaecology-Obstetrics Section of the CHU-MEL of Cotonou. The study population was patients diagnosed with locally advanced and/or metastatic breast cancers. Results: At the end of the study, 63 cases of locally advanced and/or metastatic breast cancer were recorded in 80 cases of breast cancer;a 74.11% prevalence of locally advanced and metastatic breast cancer. The mean age of the patients was 42.6 years. The main reason for consultation was the discovery of a mass in the breast (65.1%). Clinically, an orange peel was noted in 39.6%. Mammography (47.6%) and breast ultrasonography (42.9%) were the reference imaging workups for breast cancer diagnosis. Histopathologically, infiltrating ductal carcinoma (94.1%) was the predominant type with Scarff-Bloom and Richardson (SBR) grade II found in 35.3%. Progesterone and estrogen receptors were present in 42.9%. Mastectomy with axillary node dissection was the surgical treatment performed (80%) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (39.6%). Only one patient had received radiotherapy. No patient received hormone therapy. Conclusion: Locally advanced and metastatic cancers remain a real public health problem. It is essential that major investments be made in order to improve both their diagnosis and management.
