Amplitude mode is collective excitation emerging from frozen lattice distortions below the charge-density-wave(CDW)transition temperature TCDW and relates to the order ***,the amplitude mode is non-polar(symmetry-even)and does not interact with incoming infrared ***,if the amplitude mode is polar(symmetry-odd),it can potentially couple with incoming photons,thus forming a coupled phonon-polariton quasiparticle that can travel with light-like speed beyond the optically excited ***,we present the amplitude mode dynamics far beyond the optically excited depth of ∼150 nm in the CDW phase of ∼10-μm-thick single-crystal EuTe4 using time-resolved x-ray *** observed oscillations of the CDW peak,triggered by photoexcitation,occur at the amplitude mode frequency ω***,the underdamped oscillations and their propagation beyond the optically excited depth are at odds with the observation of the overdamped nature of the amplitude mode measured using meV-resolution inelastic x-ray scattering and polarized Raman *** ωAM is found to decrease with increasing fluence owing to a rise in the sample temperature,which is independently confirmed using polarized Raman scattering and ab-initio molecular dynamics *** rationalize the above observations by explicitly calculating two coupled quasiparticles—phonon-polariton and *** data and simulations cannot conclusively confirm or rule out the one but point toward the likely origin from propagating *** observed non-local behavior of amplitude mode thus provides an opportunity to engineer material properties at a substantially faster time scale with optical pulses.

A hierarchical clustering approach for colorectal cancer molecular subtypes identification from gene expression data

Background Colorectal cancer(CRC)is the second leading cause of cancer fatalities and the third most common human *** molecular subgroups of CRC and treating patients accordingly could result in better therapeutic success compared with treating all CRC patients *** have highlighted the significance of CRC as a major cause of mortality worldwide and the potential benefits of identifying molecular subtypes to tailor treatment strategies and improve patient *** This study proposed an unsupervised learning approach using hierarchical clustering and feature selection to identify molecular subtypes and compares its performance with that of conventional *** proposed model contained gene expression data from CRC patients obtained from Kaggle and used dimension reduction techniques followed by Z-score-based outlier *** hierarchy clustering was used to identify molecular subtypes,with a P-value-based approach for feature *** performance of the model was evaluated using various classifiers including multilayer perceptron(MLP).Results The proposed methodology outperformed conventional methods,with the MLP classifier achieving the highest accuracy of 89%after feature *** model successfully identified molecular subtypes of CRC and differentiated between different subtypes based on their gene expression *** This method could aid in developing tailored therapeutic strategies for CRC patients,although there is a need for further validation and evaluation of its clinical significance.

Production of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.), a staple legume crop in Sub-Saharan Africa, faces challenges due to biotic and abiotic constraints. Induced mutagenesis was deployed to create genetic variation in two cowpea varieties (KVX396-4-5-2D and Moussa local). The radio-sensitivity tests led to determe the lethal dose 50 (LD50) corresponding to 230 Gy and 220 Gy for KVX396-4-5-2D and Moussa local varieties, respectively. Dried seeds (M0) of each variety were gamma-ray irradiated with LD50 − 50, LD50 and LD50 + 50. M1 seeds were advanced to generate M2, M3 and M4 mutants using the single-seed-descent method. M4 mutant lines were evaluated in rain-fed conditions using a randomized complete block design to assess phenotypic differences. Data on seven qualitative and eleven quantitative traits were collected. The results indicated that the mutation induced variability in three qualitative traits: in KVX 396-4-5-2D mutant lines, with flower and seed color frequencies at 2.61% and 0.56% respectively, and pod dehiscence at a frequency of 0.24%. While in Moussa local mutants, a pod color changed at a frequency of 17%. ANOVA results revealed significant differences between mutants of both varieties for all quantitative traits, including photosynthetic parameters. Positive correlations were observed between leaf diameter and 100-seed weight, and between branch number and 100-seed weight. Hierarchical clustering revealed three clusters among KVX 396-4-5-2D mutants and six clusters among Moussa local mutants. Early maturity and high foliage were induced traits in Cluster 3 of KVX 396-4-5-2D mutants while high hundred-seed weight was induced in Cluster 6 of Moussa local mutants.

BACKGROUND Coagulopathy and thromboembolic events are associated with poor outcomes in coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)*** is conflicting evidence on the effects of chronic anticoagulation on mortality and severity of COVID-19 *** To summarize the body of evidence on the effects of pre-hospital anticoagulation on outcomes in COVID-19 *** A Literature search was performed on LitCovid PubMed,WHO,and Scopus databases from inception(December 2019)till June 2023 for original studies reporting an association between prior use of anticoagulants and patient outcomes in adults with *** primary outcome was the risk of thromboembolic events in COVID-19 patients taking *** outcomes included COVID-19 disease severity,in terms of intensive care unit admission or invasive mechanical ventilation/intubation requirement in patients hospitalized with COVID-19 infection,and *** random effects models were used to calculate crude and adjusted odds ratios(aORs)with 95%confidence intervals(95%CIs).RESULTS Forty-six observational studies met our inclusion *** unadjusted analysis found no association between prior anticoagulation and thromboembolic event risk[n=43851,9 studies,odds ratio(OR)=0.67(0.22,2.07);P=0.49;I2=95%].The association between prior anticoagulation and disease severity was non-significant[n=186782;22 studies,OR=1.08(0.78,1.49);P=0.64;I2=89%].However,pre-hospital anticoagulation significantly increased all-cause mortality risk[n=207292;35 studies,OR=1.72(1.37,2.17);P<0.00001;I2=93%].Pooling adjusted estimates revealed a statistically non-significant association between pre-hospital anticoagulation and thromboembolic event risk[aOR=0.87(0.42,1.80);P=0.71],mortality[aOR=0.94(0.84,1.05);P=0.31],and disease severity[aOR=0.96(0.72,1.26);P=0.76].CONCLUSION Prehospital anticoagulation was not significantly associated with reduced risk of thromboembolic events,improved survival,and lower disease seve

Transradial approach for coronary procedures in the elderly population

Transradial cardiac catheterisation has been reported to be more beneficial compared to other approaches with easier and safer post-procedural haemostasis, better patient comfort, earlier ambulation and possibility of performing procedure and discharge on the same day. There is only limited data examining transradial access in the elderly population. In this review we looked at the available literature to give an insight into how the transradial approach compared to the transfemoral and other approaches in the elderly population. Elderly population is at higher risk of vascular access site bleeding and the transradial approach has shown equal efficacy to transfemoral approach. However, transradial approach significantly reduces vascular complications, hospital stay, mobilization times and adverse cardiac events. Therefore, transradial approach should be considered as the preferred vascular access site in the elderly population.
