Design of a Robust Optimal Decentralized PI Controller Based on Nonlinear Constraint Optimization For Level Regulation: An Experimental Study

This paper presents the development of a new robust optimal decentralized PI controller based on nonlinear optimization for liquid level control in a coupled tank system. The proposed controller maximizes the closed-loop bandwidth for specified gain and phase margins, with constraints on the overshoot ratio to achieve both closed-loop performance and robustness. In the proposed work, a frequency response fitting model reduction technique is initially employed to obtain a first order plus dead time(FOPDT) model of each higher order subsystem. Furthermore, based on the reduced order model, a proposed controller is designed. The stability and performance of the proposed controller are verified by considering multiplicative input and output uncertainties. The performance of the proposed optimal robust decentralized control scheme has been compared with that of a decentralized PI controller. The proposed controller is implemented in real-time on a coupled tank system. From the obtained results,it is shown that the proposed optimal decentralized PI controller exhibits superior control performance to maintain the desired level, for both the nominal as well as the perturbed case as compared to a decentralized PI controller.

Objective: To examine the survivability and stability of probiotic strains in presence and absence of pharmaceutical excipients for a long period of time at(4 ± 1)℃.Methods: The survival rates of probiotic strains, Pediococcus pentosaceus GS4(MTCC12683)(NCBI HM044322), GS17(NCBI KJ608061) and Lactobacillus gasseri(ATCC 19992), were evaluated. Probiotic strains were lyophilized individually and in combination of excipients(sorbitol, ascorbic acid, fructose and skim milk). The preparation was monitored for 120 d storing at(4 ± 1)℃. During storage, all the preparations were evaluated for viability and stability of probiotic properties like lactic acid production, antimicrobial effect, water activity, and adherence to epithelial cells.Results: Sorbitol, ascorbic acid and skim milk favoured the viability of freeze-dried cells and sustained probiotic properties during storage. Without excipients(control group),strains showed percentage of survivability not more than 70% while strains with excipients survived for 73%–93% for a long period of time.Conclusions: Commonly used excipients can be considered as a vehicle for delivering active principle in probiotic formulation and for sustaining the viability and stability of probiotic strains for a period of 120 d.

Substitution boxes or S-boxes play a significant role in encryption and de-cryption of bit level plaintext and cipher-text respectively. Irreducible Poly-nomials (IPs) have been used to construct 4-bit or 8-bit substitution boxes in many cryptographic block ciphers. In Advance Encryption Standard, the ele-ments of 8-bit S-box have been obtained from the Multiplicative Inverse (MI) of elemental polynomials (EPs) of the 1st IP over Galois field GF(28) by adding an additive element. In this paper, a mathematical method and the algorithm of the said method with the discussion of the execution time of the algorithm, to obtain monic IPs over Galois field GF(pq) have been illustrated with example. The method is very similar to polynomial multiplication of two polynomials over Galois field GF(pq) but has a difference in execution. The decimal equivalents of polynomials have been used to identify Basic Polynomials (BPs), EPs, IPs and Reducible polynomials (RPs). The monic RPs have been determined by this method and have been cancelled out to produce monic IPs. The non-monic IPs have been obtained with multiplication of α where?α∈ GF(pq)?and assume values from 2 to (p −1) to monic IPs.

4-bit linear relations play an important role in cryptanalysis of 4-bit crypto S-boxes. 4-bit finite differences have also been a major part of cryptanalysis of 4-bit S-boxes. Existence of all 4-bit linear relations have been counted for all of 16 input and 16 output 4-bit bit patterns of 4-bit Crypto S-boxes said as S-boxes has been reported in Linear Cryptanalysis of 4-bit S-boxes. Count of existing finite differences from each element of output S-boxes to distant output S-boxes have been noted in Differential Cryptanalysis of S-boxes. In this paper a brief review of these two cryptanalytic methods for 4-bit S-boxes has been introduced in a very lucid and conceptual manner. Two new analysis techniques, one to search for the existing linear approximations among the input vectors (IPVs) and output Boolean functions (BFs) of a particular S-box has also been introduced in this paper. The search is limited to find the existing linear relations or approximations in the contrary to count the number of existent linear relations among all 16, 4-bit input and output bit patterns within all possible linear approximations. Another is to find number of balanced BFs in difference output S-boxes. Better the number of Balanced BFs, Better the security.

Conservation agriculture impact for soil conservation in maize-wheat cropping system in the Indian sub-Himalayas

Conservation agriculture(CA)is considered as a suitable technique for soil erosion control,productivity enhancement,and improved economic benefits.To investigate these issues,an experiment was conducted under rainfed conditions using grass vegetation strip(VS)with minimum tillage,organic amendments and weed mulch during June 2007-October 2011 at Dehradun,Uttarakhand in the Indian Himalayan region.Results showed that the mean wheat equivalent yield was47%higher in the plots under with CA compared with conventional agriculture in a maize-wheat crop rotation.Mean runoff coefficients and soil loss with CA plots were45%less and54%less than conventional agriculture plots.On average,after the harvest of maize,soil moisture conservation up to 90 cm soil depth for wheat crop was 108%higher under CA than conventional agriculture plots.The net return from the plots with CA was 85%higher,and when expressed net return per tonne of soil loss,it was four and half times higher than conventional practice.Results demonstrate that the suitable CA practice(a grass strip of Palmarosa with applied organic amendments(farmyard manure,vermicompost and poultry manure)along with weed mulching under conservation tillage)enhances system productivity,reduces runoff,soil loss and conserve soil moisture.&2015 International Research and Training Center on Erosion and Sedimentation and China Water and Power Press.Production and Hosting by Elsevier B.V.This is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license(http://***/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/).

Effect of potassium on soil conservation and productivity of maize/cowpea based crop rotations in the north-west Indian Himalayas

Plots under conservation tillage may require higher amount of potassium(K) application for augmenting productivity due to its stratification in upper soil layers, thereby reducing K supplying capacity in a medium or long-term period. To test this hypothesis, a field experiment was performed in 2002-2003 and 2006-2007 to study the effect of K and several crop rotations on yield, water productivity, carbon sequestration, grain quality, soil K status and economic benefits derived in maize(Zea mays L)/cowpea(Vigna sinensis L.) based cropping system under minimum tillage(MT). All crops recorded higher grain yield with a higher dose of K(120 kg K2 O ha-1) than recommended K(40 kg K2 O ha-1). The five years' average yield data showed that higher K application(120 kg K2 O ha-1) produced 16.4%(P<0.05)more maize equivalent yield. Cowpea based rotation yielded 14.2%(P<0.05) higher production than maize based rotation. The maximum enhancement was found in cowpea-mustard rotation. Relationship between yield and sustainable indices revealed that only agronomic efficiency of fertilizer input was significantly correlated with yield. Similarly, higherdoses of K application not only increased the water use efficiency(WUE) of all crops, but also reduced runoff and soil loss by 16.5% and 15.8% under maize and 23.3% and 19.7% under cowpea cover, respectively. This study also revealed that on an average 16.5% of left over carbon input contributed to soil organic carbon(SOC). Here, cowpea based rotation with the higher K application increased carbon sequestration in soil. Potassium fertilization also significantly improved the nutritional value of harvested grain by increasing the protein content for maize(by 9.5%) and cowpea(by 10.6%). The oil content in mustard increased by 5.0% and 6.0% after maize and cowpea, respectively. Net return also increased with the application of the higher K than recommended K and the trend was similar to yield. A bacteriocin producing strain of Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis LABW4 was isolated from naturally fermented milk product which exhibited strong antibacterial activity against Listeria monocytogenes MTCC657, a food spoilage psychrophilic organism. Both cell free and heat killed supernatants of LABW4 were effective to produce zones of inhibition against L. monocytogenes in vitro. The antibacterial metabolite(s) of LABW4 showed strong cidal effect on the growth of L. monocytogenes. Meat samples, mixed with heat killed supernatant of LABW4 when inoculated with Listeria, remain fresh up to 25 days in refrigerated condition whereas spoilage started immediately after 24 hours of inoculation for control sets. Enhancement of Lactate dehydrogenase of L. monocytogenes upon treatment with LABW4 cell free supernatant suggested its lytic mode of action. Cell lysis or degradations were also supported by scanning electron micrograph of treated cells.

BACKGROUND No qualitative or quantitative analysis of contrast-enhanced computed tomography(CT)images has been reported for the differentiation between ameloblastomas and central giant cell granulomas(CGCGs).AIM To describe differentiating multidetector CT(MDCT)features in CGCGs and ameloblastomas and to compare differences in enhancement of these lesions qualitatively and using histogram analysis.METHODS MDCT of CGCGs and ameloblastomas was retrospectively reviewed to evaluate qualitative imaging descriptors.Histogram analysis was used to compare the extent of enhancement of the soft tissue.Fisher’s exact tests and Mann–Whitney U test were used for statistical analysis(P49.05 HU in the tumour providing 100%sensitivity and 85%specificity in identifying a CGCG.CONCLUSION A multilocular,lytic sclerotic lesion with significant hyperenhancement in soft tissue,which spares the angle of the mandible and has matrix mineralization,should indicate prospective diagnosis of CGCG.

Despite tremendous strides in modern medicine stringent control over insulin resistance or restoration of normoglycemia has not yet been achieved.With the growth of molecular biology,omics technologies,docking studies,and in silico pharmacology,modulators of enzymes and receptors affecting the molecular pathogenesis of the disease are being considered as the latest targets for anti-diabetic therapy.Therapeutic molecular targets are now being developed basing on the up or down regulation of different signaling pathways affecting the disease.Phytosynergistic antidiabetic therapy is in vogue both with classical and non-classical medicinal systems.However its chemoprofiling,structural and pharmacokinetic validation awaits providing recognition to such formulations for international acceptance.Translational health research with its focus on benchside product development and its sequential transition to patient bedside puts the pharma RDs to a challenge to develop bio-waiver protocols.Pharmacokinetic simulation models and establishment of in vitro-in vivo correlation can help to replace in vivo bioavailability studies and provide means of quality control for scale up and post approval modification.Thisreview attempts to bring different shades highlighting phyto-synergy,molecular targeting of antidiabetic agents via different signaling pathways and bio-waiver studies under a single umbrella.
