Development of total hip arthroplasty (THA) now spans more than 5 decades encompassing combinations of metal-on-metal (MOM), ceramic-on-metal (COM), metal-on-plastic (MOP), ceramic-on-plastic (COM), and ceramic-on-ceramic (COC). In every arena of extensive technical development, there exists a data set that when viewed in isolation seemed of little import, but when assembled in-toto may produce a generational shift in perception. Our review focused on two such THA events. Firstly, COC retrieval studies (1999-2001) noted habitual wear patterns on heads and peripheral wear stripes, along with femoral-neck.impingement, and ceramic surfaces stained gray by metal debris. These COC data indicated THA risks included, 1) cup edge-loading (E/L) on heads producing “stripe wear”, 2) component impingement releasing metal particles resulting in 3) tissues contaminated by metal debris. A corresponding MOM impingement-debris mechanism was only perceived by Howie (2005) in a McKee-Farrar retrieval study. Our anticipation at LLUMC was that MOM retrievals would provide superior wear details to those seen on COC retrievals. We noted stripe wear in the polar zone of CoCr heads and basal stripes in the non-wear areas. The basal-polar stripe combinations were found in all MOM retrievals. 在环境因素起制约作用的背景下,随着中国古人类演化与生存能力的进步,其数量和空间分布在不同时间段呈现出不同的特征。为了更好地了解中国早期人类的时空分布特征,本研究以中国境内已发表的2110处旧石器遗址的坐标和年代信息为基础,采用统计学和空间分析的方法,对遗址的时间分布进行以蒙特卡洛模拟为基础的时间不定性模拟,对遗址的空间分布进行核密度估计和聚类分析;同时,利用环境空间数据集中的海拔、水源、气温和降水信息,对不同时期内各个遗址所在地的环境条件进行统计分析。研究结果表明,在旧石器时代,随着时间的发展,中国境内的遗址数量不断增多,分布范围也逐渐从中部、南部和东部地区向条件较恶劣的北部和西部扩张。其中,600 k.和57 k.为这一变化的两个关键时间点,600 k.之前遗址数量较少,分布也较为局限;在600 k.至57 k.之间,遗址数量缓慢增加,分布范围也在季风区内逐渐扩大;57 k.之后,遗址数量迅速增长,分布遍布中国境内的大部分地区。本文所梳理的中国境内旧石器遗址整体时空分布特征,为进一步解读中国早期人类的环境适应能力,特别是古人类的体质演化和技术进步的环境驱动机制提供参考。

This paper presents a finite element implementation of a strain-hardening Druck.r-Prager model and its application to tunnel *** computational model was constructed based on the return mapping scheme,in which an elastic trial step was first executed,followed by plastic correction involving the Newton-Raphson method to return the predicted state of stresses to the supposed yield *** combining the plastic shear hardening rule and stress correction equations,the loading index for the strain-hardening Druck.r-Prager model was *** is therefore possible to update the stresses,elastic and plastic strains,and slope of the yield locus at the end of each incremental *** an illustrative example,an integration algorithm was incorporated into ABAQUS through the user subroutine UMAT to solve the tunnel excavation problem in strain-hardening Druck.r-Prager rock.*** obtained numerical results were found to be in excellent agreement with the available analytical solutions,thus indicating the validity and accuracy of the proposed UMAT code,as well as the finite element model.

Total or partial thyroidectomy has been proposed as the initial treatment for benign euthyroid oiter. The aim of this study is to determine the complications associated with surgical procedures for goiter, based on our experience. Material and method: A retrospective study over 10 years concerning 409 patients operated on for goiters in the department with 48 cases of complications. Results: 409 patients operated on for goiter in the department with 48 cases of complications (11.82%). The per- and post-operative complications were: hemorrhage (18: 4.40%), recurrent lesions (1;0.24%), 8 cases of infection (1.96%), 5 cases of transient hypocalcemia (1.22%) and phonation disorders 9 cases (2.20%). Conclusion: Complications from goiter surgery seem to be more related to thyroid disease and the surgeon’s experience than to the surgical procedure. Better knowledge of the factors leading to complications will improve the outcome of goiter surgery.

In 2004, docetaxel was approved for the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer （mCRPC）. For the next several years, there was a lull in drug approvals. However, from 2010 onwards, 5 additional therapies have been approved on the basis of showing a survival benefit in phase III studies. These agents include sipuleuceI-T, cabazitaxel, abiraterone, enzalutamide and （most recently） radium-223. Amongst radiopharmaceuticals currently used for advanced prostate cancer （e.g. samarium-153 and strontium-89）, radium-223 possesses several unique properties. As an alpha-emitting compound, the agent produces a high-energy output over a short range, facilitating selective destruction of tissue within the bone in the region of osteoblastic lesions while sparing surrounding normal tissue. The current review will outline biological rationale for radium-223 and also provide an overview of preclinical and clinical development of the agent. Rational sequencing of radium-223 and combinations, in the increasingly complex landscape of mCRPC will be discussed, along with factors influencing clinical implementation.

Activation of myeloid cells by human endogenous retroviral entities:While the exact causes of neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis(MS)or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)are still elusive,there is evidence of a new category of pathogenic elements called human endogenous retroviruses(HERVs)which seem to contribute to their evolution and progression by exerting inflammatory and degenerative effects(k.ry et al.,2018).HERVs are ancient retroviral elements which account for up to 8%of the human genome and it is k.own that environmental factors can trigger their(re-)expression(k.ry et al.,2018).The resulting production of viral particles and/or proteins,especially from members of the HERV-W and HERV-k.family,is strongly correlated with the onset and progression of neurological diseases,such as MS and ALS(k.ry et al.,2018).

In this paper, we have investigated two observed situations in a multi-lane road. The first one concerns a fast merging vehicle. The second situation is related to the case of a fast vehicle leaving the fastest lane back.into the slowest lane and targeting a specific way out. We are interested in the relaxation time T, i.e., which is the time that the merging （diverging） vehicle spends before reaching the desired lane. Using analytical treatment and numerical simulations for the NaSch model, we have found two states, namely, the free state in which the merging （diverging） vehicle reaches the desired lane, and the trapped state in which T diverges. We have established phase diagrams for several values of the brak.ng probability. In the second situation, we have shown that diverging from the fast lane targeting a specific way out is not a simple task. Even if the diverging vehicle is in the free phase, two different states can be distinguished. One is the critical state, in which the diverging car can probably reach the desired way out. The other is the safe state, in which the diverging car can surely reach the desired way out. In order to be in the safe state, we have found that the driver of the diverging car must k.ow the critical distance （below which the way out will be out of his reach） in each lane. Furthermore, this critical distance depends on the density of cars, and it follows an exponential law.
