Desulfurization of rejected electrolytic manganese metal by electroslag remelting furnace with a water-cooled electrode

Remelting rejected electrolytic manganese metal (EMM) scrap was investigated by electroslag remelting (ESR) process through industrial experiment. The results indicated that the ANF-6 slag (70 wt.% CaF_(2) + 30 wt.% Al_(2)O_(3)) and deoxidizer could promote the desulfurization of ESR manganese in an air atmosphere. Under an air atmosphere, the sulfur in the ingot decreased to 0.0534 wt.% with a desulfurization ratio of ESR manganese of 53.2% by using ANF-6 slag and water-cooled copper electrode electroslag remelting rejected EMM scrap, suggesting its efficient removal. The electroslag ingots exhibited uneven chemical composition in an air atmosphere and cooling condition of the ESR process. The metal manganese could be oxidized by electroslag remelting of rejected EMM scrap in an air atmosphere with MnO content in the final slag of 21.9 wt.%. Besides, the activity of MnO in slag increased with increasing remelting temperature, resulting in a reduction in the slag–manganese sulfur partition ratio and desulfurization ratio. Moreover, with the accumulation of sulfur in slag and the oxidation of metallic manganese liquid, the slag showed a lower cleanliness and more oxidation, leading to an increase in sulfur and oxygen content in the electroslag ingot with the increase in ingot height.

Effects of initial velocity on the sinking of ilmenite-bearing cumulates in the early lunar mantle:Insight from the theory of Rayleigh-Taylor instability

The early lunar mantle overturn,associated with the sinking of the dense ilmenite-bearing cumulate(IBC)crystallized at the shallow lunar mantle,provides satisfactory explanations for the origination of high-Ti basalt,the abnormally strong magnetic field between~3.9 and~3.6 Ga and the low-viscosity zone in the deep lunar mantle,but still poses a debate regarding the initial state of IBC in the early lunar *** the sinking of IBC initiated before the end of lunar magma ocean crystallization,the solidified IBC can acquire a greater thickness and a higher initial velocity at the IBC-mantle *** variation of initial velocity can affect the strain rate of IBC and,correspondingly,the dislocation creep components at the shallow lunar *** this work,we analyze the effects of initial velocity on the dynamics of early lunar mantle by using the theory of Rayleigh-Taylor *** couple the effects of diffusion creep and dislocation creep for all major minerals in the lunar mantle,we exploit an improved Minimized Power Geometric(IMPG)model and isostress mixing model to characterize the upper limit and lower limit for the viscosity of the lunar mantle comprising four major minerals,***,orthopyroxene,clinopyroxene and *** modeling results suggest that a high initial velocity,in any case,can shorten the onset time,tending to promote the early lunar mantle overturn even in a rheologically-strong lunar *** effect of initial velocity on the overturn wavelength shows a strong dependence on the rheological mixing *** the isostress mixing model,the increase of initial velocity tends to elongate the overturn *** the IMPG mixing model,the overturn wavelength is insensitive to the variation of initial *** the actual lunar mantle rheology sandwiches between the rheologies predicted by isostress mixing model and IMPG model,it can be anticipated that the increase of initial velocity tends to elongate the overturn waveleng

An optimized two-step derivatization method for analyzing diethylene glycol ozonation products using gas chromatography and mass spectrometry

The ozonation of hydroxyl compounds （e.g., sugars and alcohols） gives a broad range of products such as alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, and carboxylic adds. This study developed and optimized a two-step derivatization procedure for analyzing polar products of aldehydes and carboxylic acids from the ozonation of diethylene glycol （DEG） in a non-aqueous environment using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Experiments based on Central Composite Design with response surface methodology were carried out to evaluate the effects of derivatization variables and their interactions on the analysis. The most desirable derivati- zation conditions were reported, i.e., oximation was performed at room temperature overnight with the o-（2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorobenzyl） hydroxyl amine to analyte molar ratio of 6, silylation reaction temperature of 70℃, reaction duration of 70 min, and N,O-bis（trimethylsilyl）- trifluoroacetamide volume of 12.5 μL. The applicability of this optimized procedure was verified by analyzing DEG ozonation products in an ultrafine condensation particle counter simulation system.

Isolation and application of predatory Bdellovibrio-and-like organisms for municipal waste sludge biolysis and dewaterability enhancement

Bdellovibrio-and-like organisms （BALOs） are a group of ubiquitous and obligate predatory bacteria and conmlonly used as biocontrol agents. In this study, an efficient, environmental-friendly, and convenient BALOs encouraged municipal waste sludge biolysis pretreatment technique was developed and investigated for dewaterability enhancement of excess waste sludge. The indigenous predatory BALOs were successfully isolated from the sludge for biolysis treatment. Without any chemical addition or pH adjustment, the sludge specific resistance （SRF） and capillary suction time （CST） were significantly reduced by as high as 53.4% and 23.8%, respectively within 24 h＇s treatment, which would further be lowered with the increase of BALOs input dosage. However, the continuous extension of reaction time would women the sludge dewaterability. The decreases of SRF and CST accompanied with the increases of sludge disintegration degree and soluble chemical oxygen demand, nitrogen, and phosphorus concentrations all emphasized the contributions of BALOs＇ predation activities to sludge disturbance, cell lysis, and consequently the release of sludge intracellular water to finally effectively improve the sludge dewaterability and disposal efficiency.

This paper presents a 2-D numerical investigation on interaction between regular waves and a fully submerged horizontal cylinder.A mathematical model of numerical wave tank with two-way fluid-solid interactions were developed and *** wave-induced vibrations of a single-degree-of-freedom cylinder were simulated at eleven gap ratios(d/a=8,10,12,14,16,18,20,22,24,28 and 32).Numerical results indicate that significant nonlinear characteristics are introduced into the originally linear waves with the presence of *** on the variation characteristics of cylinder vibration amplitude,the gap ratios can be divided into three ranges,i.e.,the uncertain range(8≤d/a≤14),quasi-linear range(14≤d/a≤20)and linear range(20≤d/a≤32).Under the same wave condition,the gap ratio does not affect the frequencies of vortex shedding and cylinder *** presence of the cylinder complicates the flow field and suppress the vortex shedding around the cylinder.

Simple Fourth-Degree Cubature Formulae with Few Nodes over General Product Regions

A simple method is proposed for constructing fourth-degree cubature formulae over general product regions with no symmetric assumptions. The cubatureformulae that are constructed contain at most n2 + 7n + 3 nodes and they are likelythe first kind of fourth-degree cubature formulae with roughly n2 nodes for nonsymmetric integrations. Moreover, two special cases are given to reduce the numberof nodes further. A theoretical upper bound for minimal number of cubature nodesis also obtained.

Comparative analyses of mitogenomes in the social bees with insights into evolution of long inverted repeats in the Meliponini

The insect mitogenome is typically a compact circular molecule with highly conserved gene ***,mitogenome structural variations have been reported in specific taxa,and gene rearrangements,usually the tRNAs,occur in different *** synapomorphies of mitogenome organizations can provide information for phylogenetic inferences,comparative analyses of mitogenomes have been given increasing ***,most studies use a very few species to represent the whole genus,tribe,family,or even order,overlooking potential variations at lower taxonomic levels,which might lead to some incorrect *** provide new insights into mitogenome organizations and their implications for phylogenetic inference,this study conducted comparative analyses for mitogenomes of three social bee tribes(Meliponini,Bombini,and Apini)based on the phylogenetic framework with denser taxonomic sampling at the species and population *** analyses revealed that mitogenomes of Apini and Bombini are the typical type,while those of Meliponini show diverse variations in mitogenome sizes and *** inverted repeats(IRs)cause significant gene rearrangements of protein coding genes(PCGs)and rRNAs in Indo-Malay/Australian stingless bee *** evolution analyses showed that the lineage with IRs have lower dN/dS ratios for PCGs than lineages without IRs,indicating potential effects of IRs on the evolution of mitochondrial *** finding of IRs and different patterns of gene rearrangements suggested that Meliponini is a hotspot in mitogenome *** conserved PCGs and rRNAs whose rearrangements were found only in the mentioned lineages within Meliponini,tRNA rearrangements are common across all three tribes of social bees,and are significant even at the species level,indicating that comprehensive sampling is needed to fully understand the patterns of tRNA rearrangements,and their implications for phylogenetic inference.
